Sunday Reflection Light has been given, that we may shine forth What a bright light shone on the temple the day the Lord Jesus was presented by Mary and Joseph. Cradled in the loving arms of His mother, protectively guarded by His earthly father, Jesus began His ministry of light, blazing into the hearts of Anna and Simeon who had waited so long for His coming. To commemorate such a gift of divine light, on this feast many parishes bless all the candles to be used during the year, and candles for individual parishioners. These blessed candles are then lit at Mass, special vigil services or in private devotion. A simple glowing reminder that we are called to bring the Light to the world around us. The light of one single candle can be seen for as far as 10 miles on a dark, still night. How far is our light shining today?

Catholic Central High School Musical Theatre

Catholic Central is very excited about the upcoming production Matilda, which will run in March. Based on the book by Roald Dahl, this children’s novel was published in 1988. It is the story of a precocious five-year-old who loves reading and finds she can move things with her mind, which helps her with a family that does not understand her and a kind and gentle teacher who is bullied by the headmistress of her school. Matilda has a fun sense of justice.

Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk Have you ever had that experience where some one says to you, "I didn’t know you were catholic”? I have been hearing this comment a lot lately about different people, more in keeping with "I never knew they were catholic”. It has reminded me of a game we used to play with High School students. The games is: is there sufficient evidence to convict you of being Catholic? You have a judge, generally me, a person charged with the offence of being Catholic, usually the teacher, and then the class is split, half being the defence and half being the prosecution. The arguments usually take this course of action:

1. The person goes to church But anyone can go to church

2. The person goes to a Catholic Church Anyone can come into a Catholic Church

3. The person prays Lots of people pray

4. The person has a rosary Lots of people have rosary’s, that does not make

them Catholic

5. They went to a Catholic School Lots of non-Catholics attend Catholic schools

6. They receive the Eucharist The Orthodox may receive in a Catholic Church

7. They teach in a Catholic School Lots of non-catholic people teach in Catholic Schools

8. They tell people they are Catholic Lots of people claim to be Catholic even if they are

not

Ask yourself, if you were charged with being a Catholic, is there sufficient evidence to convict you?.

Peace Fr. Kevin

Summer 2020 Arcatheos and Captivenia Bursary An anonymous donor is offering bursaries to help offset the costs of attending the amazing Catholic Arcatheos (boys’) and Captivenia (girls’) summer camps. The intent of these bursaries is to assist those who may not otherwise be financially able to have the thrill, adventure and faith-building experience of these Catholic camps. To apply, youth should write a short essay about why they are eager to attend the camp, or how the camp has helped them grow in their faith if they have attended before. For younger children, the parent may write a letter on their behalf explaining their financial need. Please submit the essay, along with the youth's full name, age, level of camp they will be attending, and contact information, to [email protected] by March 15, 2020.
