Dear Parishioners,
Tuesday, August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is a Holy Day of Obligation. Holy Day Masses will be on Monday, August 14th at 7:00 pm and Tuesday, August 15th at 6:30 am, 8:45 am, and 7:00 pm.
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 16th for the St. Alexander Parish Annual Golf Tournament and Barbecue. Remember that all proceeds benefit the Catholic education of our children and our athletic program. Turn to page ten for more information on golf, barbecue and sponsorship op-portunities.
With the beginning of August we read the sports pages and we realize the Bears will soon be playing. Hopefully they will have a good season. We, at St. Alexander, are presently getting ready for our foot-ball season and are currently recruiting players for both our Widget and Varsity teams. Please spread the word around so we will be continue to able to field both a Widget and Varsity team this year. Please call Cathy Sullivan at 708-361-2626 for information. The first practice will be held this Monday, August 7th at 5:00 pm.
St. Alexander school is blessed with a great principal, administration, faculty, and staff. We have openings at all grade levels so please spread the message of the wonderful education we provide to those who are looking for a faith based education. We are also blessed with a great religious education pro-gram and have openings at all grade levels. Registration is currently taking place for both school and religious education. Please turn to pages five and six for more information.
It is usually not my policy to respond to rumors that I, or others have heard, but I feel a strong need to address the following untrue information. Some people have stated that St. Alexander School is either closing soon or merging with another parish school. I would like to make it perfectly clear that this is NOT true. If you hear such talk, please tell them that they have been misinformed and politely remind the individual that we have a strong school, and read the previous paragraph to them.
Conversation and social media should promote the goodness of Christ and his people, so let us as a parish use our many tools of communication we have to advertise our great church, ministries, pro-grams, school, and religious education program.
God Bless,
Father Marty
FROM OUR PASTOR
The Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ on August 6th celebrates the revelation of Christ's divine glory on Mount Tabor in Galilee. After revealing to His disciples that He would be put to death in Jerusalem, Christ, along with Ss. Peter, James, and John, went up the mountain. There, Saint Matthew writes, "He was transfigured before them. And His
face did shine as the sun: and His garments became white as snow."

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
Today, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, is a day of eyewitness accounts. The first, a vision reported by the prophet Daniel, was well known to Jesus and his apostles. The vision account was writ-ten in quite mystical and figurative language. It is a vision of heaven, powerful and memorable. There are flames of fire, burning wheels, the Ancient One, and a Son of Man. Clearly, Daniel saw something. But was it a dream? Was it real? Was it merely a clever myth?
Peter wants no such confusion about his vision! We are told in Matthew's Gospel what he and his friends James and John saw when they went up on the mountain with Jesus one day. Jesus warned the three witnesses to tell no one until "the Son of Man has been raised from the dead" (Matthew 17:9). Lest readers of one of the Gospels discount the story or simply write it off as a pious myth, Peter gives his own account of the Transfiguration of Jesus in his second letter to the church. He writes with authority, as an eyewitness. He reports this message from God concerning Jesus: "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased," and he assures us that the message is "altogether reliable" (2 Peter 1:17, 19).
