He is Holy Joseph,

Because his office of being spouse and pro-tector of Mary Specially demanded Sanc-tity. He is Holy Joseph, because no other Saint but he lived in such intimacy and fa-miliarity with the source of all Holiness, Jesus, God Incarnate, and Mary, the Holi-est of Creatures. ~ Blessed John Henry Newman Novena to St. Joseph; March 11th - 19th

Come Pray with us ~ 6:00pm ~ in Our Church

LENTEN REGULATIONS 1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all

the Fridays of Lent (excluding the Solemnity of St. Joseph per Canon 1251).

2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

4. To disregard completely the law of fast an absti-nence is seriously sinful.

5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Christian year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of volun-tary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a per-formance of works of charity and mercy.

cada uno significan especial agrado, sea por la materia o por el modo de preparación;

B) o por una especial obra de caridad; C) o por una especial obra de piedad; D) o por otro significativo sacrificio voluntario”.

Sujeto de la ley del ayuno y la abstinencia: - Abstinencia de carne: todos los que han cumpli-

do 14 años.

2011 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

Diocese of Joliet Sign-Up Weekend Today

Today is Sign-Up Weekend for the Diocesan Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. As we begin our Lenten journey, let us strive through our almsgiving to further the work of the church in the Diocese of Joliet. Your pledge continues the work of Jesus in the seven counties that comprise our diocese. We ask that you give prayerful con-sideration in making the most generous gift you can. Please make your pledge to-day. In 1992, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response. The bishops defined a Christian steward as one who:

•Receives God’s gifts gratefully •Cherishes and tends God’s gifts responsibly •Shares God’s gifts in love and justice •Returns God’s gifts with increase

Stewards acknowledge that God is Creator and Owner of all and shares of their gifts out of love for God and one another.

Fast Facts...."Studies tell us that graduates of Catholic schools are more closely bonded to the church, more committed to actively practice the faith as adults, show more responsibility in moral decision making, and are generally happier as adults. Students in Catholic schools develop a habit of service to the wider community, and especially to the poor, which carries over into their adult lives." (Excerpt of a letter from Rev. John Bel-monte, Superintendent of Catholic Schools)

A huge thank you...to everyone that supported our Spring Fling auction and dinner dance held on March 5th. The support of St. Joseph Parish, St. Charles Borromeo Parish, and Holy Family School means so much, and we are blessed to have been able to enjoy this experience together. Thank you!

Time, Talent & Treasure Fostering Stewardship as a way of life This week’s Stewardship of Time & Talent Salute

In gratitude of God’s gifts of time and talent to us, we grate-fully acknowledge and salute:

Pantry Volunteers Who have donated countless hours of hard work, dedication

and devotion to the parish.

Stewardship Thought for the Week We know that we fool no one when we say one thing but do the opposite. Promises made to a boss, a spouse or a friend ring hollow when the action that follows does not bear them out. God is the last person we should try to fool with empty words; he knows what is in our hearts. When we profess love for God, we must also act in loving ways.
