ST. JUDE CEDAR RAPIDS - JANUARY 7, 2018 2

M e s s a g e f r o m

FR. MARK REASONER

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany. The word "Epiphany" comes from the Greek language, and it means “revelation” or “manifestation”. This feast celebrates the revelation of Christ to the world; not only to the Jews but to all peoples, represented by the three visitors from the East. These visitors have different names associated with them such as the Three Wise Men, the Magi, the Three Kings. The image this feast brings to mind for me is that of the Three Wise Men kneeling before the Christ Child as they present their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Like the Three Wise Men who sought out Christ and journeyed to Jesus from afar, we need to make the effort in our lives to come and celebrate the Lord’s presence among us here each week at the Eucharist. We might reflect on what gifts we offer God. After encountering God's presence in the Christ Child, the Three Wise Men returned to the world from which they had come; to witness to what they had seen and to witness to God's glory and goodness. Like the Wise Men, we too are called to return to our everyday lives and to witness what we have seen and encountered in the Eucharist, God's very presence and His goodness with us. We are to become heralds of Christ in our everyday lives by committing to prayer and sacrificial giving, sharing our gifts and talents in service of God, and living and sharing Christ’s love. Let us strive to truly be wise men and women by seeking Christ in our lives and giving glory and praise to God by living our faith and sharing our gifts. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Mark

Mike Daley Phoebe Toczylowski

Clarence Kuhn Betty Kluber

May the Lord grant eternal peace.

Epiphany Concert

Sunday, January 7 3:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church

Free admission.

Enjoy Christmas music performed by choirs (including the St. Jude Choir!),

instrumentalist groups, and soloists. Following the concert, refreshments will be served

in Pius Hall. Everyone is invited to – like the three wise men – “come bearing gifts” of money and non-perishable food items for MCO.

This annual concert is a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the Christmas season!

Greetings to you in the name of Christ the Redeemer, I would like, at the end of the year, to thank you for everything you have done for the parish and for everything that you will continue to do in the future. I take advantage of this same opportunity to wish you a good time of Christmas, a good Holy and fruitful year 2018 to you all, especially to the donors.

May the Almighty God bless you and grant you the grace of a year of peace, love, health and prosperity. Fr. Lubermann Pastor of Holy Cross Parish Fonds Verrettes, Haiti
