My Safety Moment
Dropped Objects
During steam drum inspections at Hines a coworker bent over and a paint pen fell off the top story and down to the ground. The pen exploded and we all took a moment to revisit the danger of dropped objects and the importance of tethers.
Responsibilities this Rotation■ Analyzed
– AutoPIPE Stress Analysis of Bartow HRH Drain Modification
■ Attended– 2016 FHO TechX Conference
– Tour of the University of Florida Co-generation Plant
■ Created– Material Spec. Database for Osprey’s HP and HRH Piping Systems
– ASME B31.1 Branch Connection Reinforcement Area Calculator
■ Inspected– Osprey Plant baseline inspections with Structural Integrity
– Boilers at Crystal River Unit 2, Unit 5, and Anclote Unit 2
– HRSGs at Hines PB4A and PB4B
HRSG Inspections – Hines PB4A
Boiler Inspections – Crystal River Unit 2
Boiler Inspections – Anclote Unit 2
Bartow AutoPIPE Analysis - Intro
Bartow AutoPIPE Analysis – Benefits
■ Training
– Learned the fundamentals of AutoPIPE
■ Testing– Analyzed code stresses
and thermal displacement
■ Collaborated– Compared to Steve Grace’s
Caepipe Analysis
ASME Branch Reinforcement Calculator - Intro
ASME Branch Reinforcement Calculator - Benefits■ Learned valuable information
– ASME Codes
■ Man hours saved– Piping engineers can use this tool
instead of reading the code book
■ Safety– Ensure that existing designs or
repairs meet code
■ Teamwork– Received feedback from Boilers
and Fuel Prep Team and revised accordingly
Looking Ahead■ Returning May 22nd to join the Nuclear Generation Engineering
Summer Internship Program at the Brunswick Plant
