________________________________________________ New Student Orientation Schedule for 2014-2015 Introduction Over the past year we revised the orientation process for new families. We wanted to ensure that all families were welcomed appropriately and that both parents and students had all of the necessary information to be successful on their first day of school. Chris Boreham, Elementary Vice Principal Student Welfare, set about establishing a programme for new families arriving during the 2014-2015 academic year. Each family spent time with Chris going through the procedures of the Elementary School. They were introduced to the Elementary Leadership Team and the Elementary Office Staff and then were escorted to the classroom to meet their homeroom teacher and, where appropriate, the EAL and LS teachers. New families provided very positive feedback about their welcome. Therefore, we have tried to replicate this process for all new families for the beginning of the school year. We hope to create an informal atmosphere through welcoming smaller groups of families so there are opportunities for them to ask questions, connect with other families and NIST teachers and learn about what makes NIST a special community.
