9:30 – 11:30 a.m.‘What’s Cooking: An Introduction to

Career Services’ (Mandatory)

Come and learn about the opportunities available and services provided by the Nicholas School’s Career Services team. You don’t want to miss this fun and interactive orientation show! It gets rave reviews every year.

Get to know your Nicholas School and Duke University resources. Representatives various departments will be available to talk to you. Refreshments will be provided.

1:30 – 2:30 p.m.International Students Survival Tips

(Attendance Encouraged)

Current student representatives will be present to share general information about student life as well as on and off campus resources. A representative from the university’s Visa Services office will also be present.

2:30 – 3:30 p.m.Information Technology (IT) Open

House

Representatives from the school’s Office of Information Technology will be available during this time to assist students in getting their accounts set up and learning how to access important online resources. Students are encouraged to attend at least one IT Open House session.

2:45 – 3:15 p.m.Overview of Assistantship Expectations and

Payroll Process (Mandatory)

This session is mandatory for those students who were awarded an assistantship. Students who were not awarded an assistantship should plan not to attend.

4:00 p.m.Graduate and Professional

Students Fall Convocation

This is a university sponsored event. All new professional students are invited and strongly encouraged to attend.

Immediately following the Convocation, at 5:00pm, the Duke Alumni Association will host a post-Convocation Welcome Reception for the Graduate and Professional Students. New students must bring their DukeCard ID to participate in this event.

5:15 p.m.Nicholas School’s +1s Orientation

Orientation for spouses and significant others of first year students. "I moved to Durham, now what?" Look no further than this one stop orientation session presented by the Nicholas School's +1s student group. Current significant others will be on hand to talk about their experiences adjusting to life in Durham as a "+1" and how they were able to settle in, find a job, and carve out their new lives both inside and outside of Duke.

Note: guests are cordially invited to join us at the community picnic immediately following this information session.

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.Nicholas School Community

Picnic

Join us for fun and games to include Frisbee, volleyball and more! We will provide the games and a fiesta style dinner; vegetarian options will be available. All Nicholas School faculty, staff and students, and their guests, are invited to attend. Members of the Nicholas School’s Alumni Council have also been invited to attend.

True Blue – Find YOU at Duke prize drawings will occur during the picnic.
