Seminar on Application of White Cement

Department of Civil Engineering and JK CementLtd. jointly organized a seminar on Applications ofWhite Cement for students of the Department on04 Jan., 2019. The seminar was delivered by Shri.S. P. Arora, Senior General Manager and RegionalHead – Gujarat, JK Cement Ltd. During theseminar expert shared his valuable experience onfield applications of white cement in variousconstruction work and explained it’s advantagesover usage of conventional cement.

Expert Talk on Atomic Energy and Its Importance for India.

Dr. Neelam Goyal, popularly known as Bharat kiParmanu Saheli, was invited to deliver a lecture onAtomic energy and its importance for IndianEconomy on 23 Jan., 2019. She addressed studentsof Department of Electrical and MechanicalEngineering. Dr. Neelam is a social activist and she isworking for building a robust massive pan-Indiasustainable public awareness system to achieve thedesired technology acceptance and diffusion ofAtomic energy in India. During her talk sheemphasized on atomic energy as clean and safesource of energy and clarified on various mis-concepts related to this that exist in society. She alsobriefed on the project of interconnecting rivers inIndia and its advantages.

Industrial Visit at Navlakhi Port

Students of BE Sem. 8, Department of CivilEngineering, visited Navalakhi Port on 28 Jan.,2019. During the visit students learned aboutvarious components of sea port such as Jetty, Nose,Dry Dock, Mist Gun, Cement Silos, Sore ProtectionNets, etc. During the visit students were guidedabout construction, operation and maintenance ofport by Mr. Umesh Chudasama, Executive Engineer,GMB. In addition to this students also learnedcomplete process of cast-in-situ pile foundation anduse of Ajex Equipment of concreting.

Industrial Visit at Silver Engineering Co.

Students of Department of Electrical EngineeringBE Sem. 4 visited Silver Engineering Co., Rajkot on25 Jan., 2019. The company is one of the leadingsuppliers of self priming pumps, centrifugal pumps,openwell submersible pumps, borewellsubmersible pumps and mud/sewage pumps. Thecompany has world class infrastructure formanufacturing and quality control. During the visitstudents got opportunity to studyelectromechanical systems used in pump andmotor as well as their manufacturing process. Theyalso studied testing procedure and importance ofIS. Students also interacted with companypersonnel to gain from their experience.

In-house Faculty Development Program on Modern Cutting Tools

In-house Faculty Development Program on ModernCutting Tools was organized at Department ofMechanical Engineering, on 12 Jan., 2019. Theobjective of the program was to introduce variousmodern cutting tools and signify its importance inimproving quality as well as productivity incomparison to conventional general purpose cuttingtools. Sessions were taken by Prof. V. H Makwanaand Mr. A. A. Bhadesiya. The program included studyof tools and tools geometry as well as workingdemonstration of these tools.

Expert Talk on Industry 4.0 and It’s Applications

Department of Mechanical Engineering organizedan expert talk on Industry 4.0 and It’s Applicationson 09 Jan, 2019. Invited experts were Mr. PankajVaghela and Mr. Rakshit Kheradia, Mascot CNCTools & Equipment's Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Sagar Dubal,Autobits Lab Pvt. Ltd. During the sessions, expertscovered various aspects like history of industrialrevolutions, role of engineers in Industryrevolution 4.0, improvement of productivity usingdata analysis, etc. Speakers also motivated studentsby sharing their journey as entrepreneur.

Seminar on Study Abroad Options

Mr. Atanu Maji from VIEC Education, Rajkot wasinvited to delivered a seminar on Study AbroadOptions on 18 Jan., 2019. The seminar was targetedfor BE Sem. 6 students of Department of Electricaland Mechanical Engineering. The seminarhighlighted opportunities for students to pursuefurther studies in foreign universities and alsomentioned about requirements and preparationplans for the same. He also discussed format ofIELTS examination and importance of its score.

Industrial visit at Bituminous Hot Mix Plant and Ready-Mix Concrete Plant

Student of BE Sem. 6 and Sem. 8 of Department of Civil Engineering visited Hot mix Plant, ReadyMix Concrete Plant at MKC camp site, Mitana on 18 Jan., 2019. Students gained knowledge aboutgradation of aggregate. They also learned about necessary test on aggregate and bituminouswhich are used in road construction as per MORTH guidelines. Students also visited site of pre-stress bridge girder casting.

Seminar on Career after Computer Engineering

Department of Computer Engineering organizeda seminar on career after Computer Engineeringon 21 Jan., 2019 for the students of BE Sem. 4 and6. Invited speaker was Mr. Ghanshyam Naredi,Software Engineer at Yahoo India. During theseminar, he discussed on GATE preparation,operating system basics, C language concepts andaptitude preparation.

Department of Electrical Engineering organized an experttalk on Sardar Sarovar Hydro Electric Project on 19 Jan.,2019 for the students of BE Sem. 4 and 6. Invited expertwas Mr. Ravi P. Devaliya, Junior Engineer - GSECL, SardarSarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd., Gujarat. During the lectureexpert discussed various topics like power distribution asper NWDT, salient features of Sardar Sarovar hydroelectric project, its cumulative generation, etc.

Industrial Visit at Elecon Engineering Co. Ltd and Rhino Machines Private Limited

An industrial visit at Elecon Engineering Co. Ltd, V. V. Nagar, was organized by Department ofMechanical Engineering on 23 Jan., 2019. The company was established in 1951 and is one thepioneer in manufacturing of industrial geared motors, material handling equipment, miningequipment, etc. During the visit students visited various sections of industries that included rawmaterial department, gear manufacturing department, heat treatment department, gear testingdepartment, etc. Students also interacted with Mr. Pankaj A Makwana, Dy. Manager Qualitycontrol and Mr. Sudhir Jogani, Incharge of quality control department.

The visit was also accompanied with visit to Rhino Machines Private Ltd., V. V. Nagar. Thecompany is one of the leading and has technological edge in the field of molding and sandmixing.

Career Awareness Activity for Group B Students and Teachers

Institute has recently published a ready reckoneron Medical, Para-medical, Pharmacy, Agricultureand B.Sc. Admissions - Gujarat and All India. Theinitiative has been taken up to spread awarenessabout admission procedures and careeropportunities after 12th Science B group. Thebooklet is compilation of all related and latestinformation that will be quite useful for aspiringstudents and for teachers to guide them. Theinformation covered includes admissionprocedure, entrance exams, fees, websiteregarding courses, available colleges, intake,scholarship, education loan, etc.

The book was distributed free among students.Further, awareness seminars were conducted forstudents in their schools and also for teachers invarious cities of Saurashtra region like Rajkot,Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagadh, Porbandar,Surendranagar, Amreli, Dhoraji, etc.

The activity has been taken up on moral groundswith a broad aim of making community betterinformed.



Community Activity

PRAYAS-2019

Students and faculties of Department of Mechanical Engineering organized social activity undertitle Prayas-2019. They celebrated 31st December with Divyang children at Home for MentallyChallenged Children, Kalawad road, Rajkot. Students also visited Mother Teresa NirmalaSishubhavan, Morbi and Shri Kathiawar Nirashrit Balashram, Rajkot. They donated groceriesand stationary items to these organizations. They also distributed food packets in slum areas.

Trip to Narara Marine National Park, Jamnagar

Students of Department of Electrical Engineering BE Sem. 4 and 6 visited Narara MarineNational Park–Jamnagar on 16 Jan., 2019. 162.89 square kilometers of Marine National Park and457.92 square kilometers of Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf of Kutch, Jamnagar offers exoticsightings on an adventure trip in this area. The Marine National Park & Sanctuary has coral reefs,mangroves, sea-grass beds, mudflats, network of creeks and other ecosystems which supportsrich marine life and bird life. Here one has chance to spot octopus, puffer fish, sea turtles,lobsters, crabs, dolphins, ray fishes, jelly fish, star fish, sea anemones, colourful corals, exoticmarine flowering plants, etc.

Limbasiya Dhyey, student of Department of Civil Engineering of last pass out batch i.e. 2018 atDiploma Institute received Gold Medal for being University topper of his batch. Similarly, PatelAditya, student of ME Structural Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, also receivedGold Medial. They were honored with the medal during 8th Convocation program of GujaratTechnological University held on 31 Jan., 2019.

It is worth noting that Limbasiya Dhyey scored 10 SPI in five of six semesters of his DiplomaEngineering.

Prof. Pradyumansinh U. Jadeja, Department of Computer Engineering completed his Ph.D.studies in the area of Social Media Mining from Nirma University, Ahmedabad. The title of hisresearch work was Trend Identification in Microblogs.

Attended Faculty Development Program

Prof. Bhavika Vyas and Prof. Dhara Tejura,Department of Humanities and Science,attended three days Faculty DevelopmentProgram (FDP) on Student InductionProgram. The program was arranged at VGEC,Chandkheda between 29-31 Jan., 2019. Thiswas the second phase of the program.
