Charles Black to preach s we prepared to celebrate the 235th birthday of our nation on July 4, 2011, what continues to inspire you about America? These days I find myself reflecting hard and long on this question. Yet I know with in my heart of hearts there is still much for which I am thankful and grateful. And yet there is something unsettled within me. Maybe it has something to do with the work load and seeing people struggling day and day out just to make ends meets. It seems like we as a nation are just not able to get the wheels rolling again so that people can pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We continue to bounce from one extreme to the other, and there is no balance or medium. There is a lot of rhetoric and opinions from all sides but nothing that provide a resolution, rather endless debate. How will history judge us as a nation? It seems to me that we are going to have to make some hard and difficult decisions regarding the future of this beloved county. My eternal hope is that history will judge us as a Nation that continued to welcome the strangers who are different from us and that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Spiritual gifts are gifts to give away. God gives them to us, and we use them to serve others. How are you using your gifts right

now? Are you looking for a new way to use them? Consider Stephen Ministry,

our congregation’s one-to-one caregiving ministry. Pat Gordon one of our Stephen Ministers had this to say about using her gifts, “I felt led by God to be a life-line for others, so Stephen Ministry really chose me.” This may be just what you’ve been

looking for! Please contact Rev. Chris Moore-Keish at (404)228-7720 to learn

more about this ministry.

FPC Atlanta New Member Mission Trip October 2-8, 2011

Join us as we share in the hands-on work of rebuilding homes in New Orleans, learn about the situation in the Gulf Coast, get a taste of bayou cooking, and share in relaxed fellowship with other FPC members and volunteers from around the country. You don’t need to be skilled in construction; Project Homecoming is set up for volunteers of all skill levels. And the cost of everything for this trip is only $300 per person! We really hope that you will consider getting involved in a project that promises to be as fun as it is meaningful. Contact Rose Emily Bermudez, FPC’s Mission Staff Liai-son (404.228.7733 or [email protected]) so that we can talk about how you can be a part of this amazing new journey.
