Reverend Roberts graduated from Princeton University in 1985. He then received the Master of Divinity degree from Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA, and is an Academic Fellow of the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey in Celigny, Switzerland. Paul has served as Pastor of Church of the Master Presbyterian in Atlanta for 13 years. He is also is a member of the Macedonian Ministry Project of Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and through this project visited Israel in 2010. Paul was recently inaugurated as tenth President-Dean of Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA. I look forward to seeing you in worship, and pray that the Lord will continue to bless our ministry and mission during this summer season – thanks be to God! The Book of Acts, chapter 2 tells the Pentecost story in all of its’ mystery and majesty, including these introductory verses: “When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them ability.” All these years later, we call Pentecost “the birthday of the church,” and on that first day of celebration, “the church caught on fire”! So please come join us in worship as we explore this profound and provocative theme - who knows what birthday surprises are in store for us! I look forward to seeing you in the sanctuary at 10:15, and please invite and encourage your family and friends to come on along. Faithfully Yours, George B. Thinking about summer reading? To give you some ideas, The Mustard Seed bookworms have gathered a short list of reads (all of which are available on our shelves).

respectable sins Confronting the Sins We Tolerate by Jerry BridgesDrawing from scriptural truth, Bridges sheds light on subtle behaviors that can derail spiritual growth, such as jealousy, anger, pride and judgmentalism.

visioneering God’s Blueprint for Developing and Maintaining Vision By Andy StanleyWith warm, down-to-earth practicality, the author explores the ordinary life of Nehemiah and his God-given vision for

accomplishing the extraor-dinary. A great tool to help you develop and maintain God’s unique purpose for your life.

no More Jellyfish, Chickens, or wimps Raising Secure, Assertive Kids in a Tough World by Paul CoughlinBy showing how to avoid over-parenting and how to instill the glorifying virtues of toughness, wisdom, and courage, Coughlin presents a clearer picture of Jesus–not just the “meek and mild” side often presented.

Three months after we redrafted our wills, Eleanor Beckman and Bill Earnest asked us if we would consider making a planned, legacy gift to the Church. It seemed such a natural thing to do considering what First Presbyterian has meant to our family, that we wondered why we hadn’t thought to do so ourselves. We were glad to make a simple codicil to our wills that included a bequest to the Church. We like knowing we will help to sustain First Presbyterian’s mission long

after we are gone. — Ginger and Hill Jeffries, FPC Legacy Givers

The Prison Visitation Programs desperately needs volunteer drivers! Quite often, the GJP’s visitation coordinator doesn’t know which Georgia state prison will be visited until the week of the trip. Therefore, there is no way to know until then how far the trip will be. For that reason, we ask volunteers to plan to be gone all day and early evening, just in case the trip takes 10-12 hours. The volunteers will pick up the family members at the GJP office (438 Edgewood Avenue NW, Atlanta, GA 30312). The Georgia Justice Project provides a car or van (depending on the number of people visiting). P lease con tac t Conn ie Lee a t 404.228.7741 for more information.
