Application for the selection of the attendants of
the D.RE.A.M. Academy, Design and REsearch for
Advanced Manufacturing programme.
What is the D.RE.A.M. Academy
The DR.E.A.M. Academy is a 12 months high edu-
cation programme over the technological sectors
of Digital Fabrication, Advanced Manufacturing,
Data Meaning and Internet Of Everything.
They are applied to four industrial areas: Archi-
tecture and Construction; Biomedical; Fashion and
Design; Aerospace.
The attendants have the opportunity both to
improve their computational and fabrication skills
while developing a research project that will lead
them to the creation of a prototype, result of their
research project.

Assets of attending the D.RE.A.M. Academy
The attendants will:
• Improve their knowledge and skills in the most technological innovative areas
• Gain knowledge from an international prestigious faculty;
• Develop their own reasearch project using the most forefront fabrication tools;
• Be in contact with companies and the most national and international prestigious
research centres;
• Be in contact with Italian venture capitalists for the development of their research;
• Become part of the international innovative ecosystem.
To who is it addressed
The D.RE.A.M Academy is addressed to all the students and professionals aiming to
focus their professional paths in one or more of the above mentioned industrial domains
covered during the programme. The Academy is also open to companies aiming to de-
velop a specific research in order to achieve the fabrication of an innovative prototype.
All EU and extra EU citizens are welcome to attend the Programme as long as they are
eligible for an European VISA Student.
For the 2016/17 the D.RE.A.M. programme can hosts maximum 50 attendants.
How does the D.RE.A.M. Academy work
The D.RE.A.M. Academy lasts 12 months and includes 40 weekly hours divided in 5 wor-
king days, from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 18:30. The total amount of class hours are
1.935, 1.188 for frontal lessons and 846 workshop hours. The class attendance should be
at least 70% of the total amount of time. The access to Città della Scienza and its facilities
is allowed from 7:30 to 22:30 during week days.
The programme includes 31 teaching modules. The first part of the programme is
mainly theory based and provides the instructions for operating machines and for the
professional use of the design and management software. In the second part the atten-
dants deepens one of theIndustrial areas. The last part of the courses are based on the
development of the research prototypes.
Every module is divided in a frontal didactics part and a laboratory part where the stu-
dents can test physically the knowledge they had been acquiring during the lessons. Every
module ends with an assignment that determines whether the class is passed or not.
Each of them should be presented with an accurate graphic and with a specific common
layout, they will consequently be published online.
During the programme there is the opportunity to meet with representatives of the local
and national business areas in order the students can be able to address the projects to
meet the interests of the companies. Furthermore the programme is enriched with public
events, lectures, symposium, round-tables, workshops and seminars.
How to apply to the D.RE.A.M. Academy
To apply to the D.RE.A.M. Academy the future attendants have to present the documen-
tation available for download from Città della Scienza website and forward it within the
appropriates deadlines. The documentation should include:
• The abstract with the main guidelines of the research project that the applicant aims
to develop. It needs be in English and be maximum two A4 pages long, it can includes
some significant images or any other documents useful for the full understanding of
the project. In this document the future attendants need to specify in which tech-
nological area he/she aims to develop the research (Architecture and Construction;
Biomedical; Fashion and Design; Aerospace);
• English CV enhancing the attendant main skills, certifications, qualifications and evi-
dence of knowledge of the English language (minimum level B1);
• Reference Letter from a third person able to certify the quality of the abstract. The
person that signs the reference letter should have competences in the topic of the
research;
• Portfolio of the most significant projects.
If the application is submitted directly by the company, it have to provide the name of
the applicant of the Programme. The portfolio in this case can be the one of the com-
pany only if the attendant had been effectively taking part to the displayed projects; the
reference letter can be written from the company management board while the CV
should be strictly personal.

Fees and Ammission
The D.RE.A.M. Academy has a price of 8.000 Euros + VAT (22%) and includes:
• The D.RE.A.M. Academy application;
• The opportunity to attend the classes, the related activities and public events;

• The usage of the spaces of the FabLab and of the Città della Scienza;
• The possibility to use the tools, machines and equipments, property of the FabLab,
following the instructions and the goals agreed with the general management board;
• The participation to the meetings and other public events organised by the FabLab
and Città della Scienza.
The compilation of the ranking list of the applicants follows two different steps:
• In the first one the board determines the suitability of the applicants verifying the ac-
curacy and consistency of the application;
• In the second part of the process, opened only to
the suitable participants, the personal interviews
take place. The attendants proves the possession
of the to the basic knowledge in the industrial and
technological topics. This step ends with the pu-
blication of the ranking list assigning a decimal ba-
sed score (100,00/100,00) to each applicant;
For every needs of the applicants, it is possible to
activate financial instalment for the payment of the fee.
Scholarship
For the edition 2016/17 of the Programme, Città della
Scienza can assign boursaries and scholarship directly
or through the involvement of companies, universities
and reasearch institutes.
After the preparation of the ranking list, once a score
is assigned to each participant, there is the official as-
signement of the scholarships. Participants recipients
of the scholarships are deleted from the list and will

Evaluation Committee
The evaluation committee is composed by:
• The D.RE.A.M. Academy Director (Evaluation Committee President);
• One member per industrial area;
• One member of Città della Scienza;
• One Representative for each company offering a bursary with no right of evaluation
but with the faculty of assign the bursary. They are able to assign the scholarship once
the ranking list is defined.
Evaluation Criteria
The participants will be evaluated in relation to the most useful knowledge in the in-
dustrial areas and technological sectors covered during the programme; the evaluation
also takes into account the proposal presented in the abstract, the CV and the project
portfolio. The Committee proceeds with the evaluation of the attendant through personal
interview.
For the 2016/17 Programme, the following criteria are applied:
• The quality of the research proposal presented the abstract in term of innovation,
possibility of development, attractiveness for the market (max 30,00 points);
• CV, study qualifications, work experiences, specific skills related with the topics of the
Programme (max 20,00 points);
• Portfolio of the most significant projects evaluated according to the proposal descri-
bed in the abstract (max 20,00 points);
• Endorsement letter from a third person able to certify the quality of the abstract
(max 10,00 points);
• Proficient knowledge of the English language (max 5,00 points);
• Knowledge of the industrial sector related to the subjects described in the abstract
(max 10,00 points);
• Knowledge of the software crucial for the development of the final prototype descri-
bed in the abstract (max 5,00 points).
The admission to the D.RE.A.M. Academy is possible only for the candidates able to
achieve at least the score of 60,00/100. The ranking list follow an decreasing order and
ranks the future attendants from 1 to 50. The candidates not appearing in the first fifty
positions are not admitted to the Academy.
Deadline and application
The call for the D.RE.A.M. Academy starts from the 20th of June 2016 and remains open
until the day 26th of November 2016, at 16:00 Rome local time.
All the documentation has to be forwarded in a closed envelope to the following

The name of the sender plus the following header: “Application D.RE.A.M. Academy”-
needs to be on the envelope. The date of the receipt considered is the one of the arrival
at the Città della Scienza office. Città della Scienza declines all the responsibilities for any
delay or lost of the documentation prior to its arrival.
The application package should include:
• English CV including a valid email address and phone number;
• A copy of a valid identification document (passport, National ID);
• Endorsement Letter;
• Portfolio of the most significant projects;
• The research abstract needs to be maximum 2 A4 long. If the project presented had
been realised by more than one person, it is compulsory to include a document
stating the agreement of all the participants to the presentation of the research. This
official document should be signed by all the single components of the original team.
Città della Scienza declines all the responsibilities for any third part included in the
project research;
• Application form (available online on Città della Scienza website, FabLab section).
All the forwarded documents need to be in English and personally signed.
Publishing of the suitable candidates
By the day 1st of December 2016 the ranking list of the participants admitted to be in-
terviewed, is published on Città della Scienza website. This list includes the date and the
hour in which the interview happens.
Interviews
The evaluation interview takes place from the day 7th to the 9th of December 2016. The
suitable candidates have to come personally at Città della Scienza for it. Skype interviews
are possible only for no-EU residents, if explicitely indicated in the application form. Città
della Scienza declines all responsabilities for any problem that might occur that will unable
the regular development of the interview (loss of connection, connection problems).
All the selected participants have to be interviewed and needs to present and explain in
details the subject of their abstract. All other useful material is also evaluated (Prototypes,
PowerPoints presentations….). The candidates shall be liable for answering the questions
that the Committee considers appropriate to ask.
Publishing of the ranking list of the candidates
The candidates ranking list is published by the 12ve of December 2016. The Programme
takes place with a minimum of 23 participants reaching at least the score of 60,00/100,
the list also indicates the benefits each of them will be receiving. In case two or more
attendants achieving the same score the youngest participant will be chosen.
Payment method
The cost of the programme is 8.000 Euros+ 22% VAT. The payment is divided in three
fees:
• Subscription fee: 800 Euros + 22% VAT to be paid by the 14th of December 2016*;
• First Payment: 3.200 Euros + 22% VAT to be paid by the 4th of January 2017;
• Second Payment of 4.000 Euros + 22% VAT before the 1st of June 2017;

*It is crucial to make the Subscription payment within ther deadline (800 Euros + 22%
VAT) as it is considered as an official confirmation of the attendance to the D.RE.A.M. Aca-
demy. This payment confirms the participation of the candidate to the Programme and
makes the procedures of VISA request for no-EU students start. The attendants need to
take care personally of providing the documentation related to the VISA request for the
duration of the programme.

Start of the D.RE.A.M. Academy
By the 4th of January 2016 the students need to be in Naples for the event that opens
the academic year of the D.RE.A.M. Academy.

Meetings and public events
The D.RE.A.M. Academy, the D.RE.A.M. FabLab and Città della Scienza regularly organise
lectures and events that enriches the educational offer of the programme.
The attendants are invited to participate and give their active contribution during the
events. More in details they events can be identified in dissemination events (UnCon-
ference Nights, lectures, workshops, symposium….) and meetings with the commercial
partners:
• Meetings with the stakeholders, providing an unique opportunity to discuss on how
to place and address the projects according to the interests of the market and indu-
stries;
• Meetings with Primo Miglio fund for the selection of the most suitable projects for
private venture financing;
• Lectures;
• Workshops;
