DESIGN ALIVE is committed to training its students towards a wide range of design-based careers to include Graphic Design, Computer Graphics, Web Design, and Interior Design.

• Students interested in a graphic design career can best get started with simultaneous enrolment in both Graphic Design & Portfolio (Design Theory with multiple graphic projects) and Computer Graphics (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign). One can only join Graphic Design if you are learning or have learned the Computer Graphics and it is possible to first learn Computer Graphics followed by Graphic Design.

• Design Alive’s Mini-Course offers the opportunity to become acquainted with the main concepts of graphic design and gain a good familiarity with the programs used by graphic designers without the need to commit to a year’s worth of study.

• Students who only wish to master the graphics design programs can join the Computer Graphics course only.

• Students who have had previous experience at using the Adobe software and need a less thorough learning route can join the Fastrack course. This course is not available for students want to join the Graphic Design and Portfolio course and don’t have any previous knowledge of the software.

• The comprehensive Web Design course is suited for students with background in Photoshop as a minimum, although a design background is preferred. For those with no background, the winning combination of the Mini Course followed by the Web Design course has proved very successful. This course trains students from the basics to the advanced, enabling them to independently design complete static and dynamic websites.

• Students who complete the comprehensive course or existing web designers can join our Web Design Advanced course which offers our students the exciting opportunity to enhance their technical skills to meet market demands. Using a CMS (Wordpress), e-commerce, and social networking utilization as well as direction on keeping skills current is the objective of this course.

• The Interior Design is an intensive full-year course that provides the models, the practical application, and the tools needed to become professional interior designers. The course includes Interior Decorating although it is not solely an Interior Decorating course. It is necessary to enrol on all 3 classes simultaneously, although it is possible to learn Autocad (first) as this course can be joined as a standalone course for those interested in learning drafting and how to create construction drawings.

Each course opens new horizons to its members and allows for significant professional opportunity.

This course will teach students to master the 3 core graphic programs; Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Photoshop is used for image manipulation, Adobe Illustrator for drawing and Indesign for layout. Students have the option of learning any of the programs individually.

Clear step-by-step instruction and demonstration is followed up by regular homework assignments, quizzes, and tests and final projects ensure all students have grasped the material sufficiently.

Students will learn to harness the power of these programs to produce cutting-edge documents and graphics.

The comprehensive knowledge of our graduates is due to the immense amount of instruction they received. Students will spend almost 30 hours learning Photoshop alone, and the same amount of hours will be devoted to Adobe Illustrator. This ensures that students have covered each and every aspect of the program which gives them the confidence to work in the field.

As with all our courses, Design Alive also offers the opportunity to email teachers your questions or requests for project feedback or a little extra help. This course is geared to the complete beginner, and for those who have some graphic design skills.

We also offer Computer Graphics as a Self-Paced Course that can be started at any time and a NEW fastrack option for the student with previous background in the software. (see page 14)

ENTRANCE CRITERIAThis course is geared to the complete beginner, as well as those who have some previous experience in using the software. Students must have a good level of computer competence before joining the course.

In this intensive 1-year course, students will learn to evaluate, formulate and implement creative design solutions to meet the functional and aesthetic needs of the client. They will also explore the relationship of interior design to decorative styles, materials and finishes, crafts, technology, international standards

and professional practice. Students will be introduced to both traditional and computer aided drafting skills using Auto CAD, which introduces students to basic information, skills, and concepts related to drafting and design. Special attention is given to sketching, measurement, room planning, auxiliary views. Students receive a through grounding in the practical and technical aspects of the subject. They will be equipped to draw plans, create models and work with contractors in the market.

The Fundamentals of Design The aim of this unit is to provide the student with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to be a successful interior designer. This includes all stages of the interior design (project) process - including the importance of research, how to find initial ideas, developing an idea, documenting work, all the way to presenting your final design scheme. In addition, we will explore the basic interior design principles and how they apply to everyday interiors. Colours, textiles and lighting in interiors will also be covered. During (and outside) class, mini projects will be produced which will help to apply the skills learned to real-life projects.

The Fundamentals of Construction It is crucial for Interior Designers to be knowledgeable in construction methods and techniques in order to effectively communicate and collaborate with builders, contractors, and vendors, as well as to create viable solutions for the clients. In this class various building systems will be introduced and explained. Along with the lecture material, the students will be asked to explore their local building codes and practices, and will be given assignments accordingly. By the completion of this course, the students will feel confident in taking up various [text removed here] renovation and interior design projects.

Auto Cad, Sketchup and PhotoshopThe aim of this course is to arm you with necessary technical drafting and presentation skills, and to prepare you to create sets of construction documents (plans, elevations, sections, and details) using AutoCAD. In addition, we will explore effective 2-D and 3-D presentation methods using Sketchup and Photoshop. In the light of abbreviated time frame in comparison to a traditional Interior Design program, we will make the most of the time we have in this class by applying the skills learned to a real-life project. Each student will select and complete a project that is local, and will end up at the end with a portfolio worthy material.

ENTRANCE CRITERIAStudents do not need any background to join this course, although a healthy interest in Interior Design is important as is a good level of computer competence.
