STUDENT PROFILEFARES ALFERDAWS

From: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Studying: Master’s Foundation Programme

Progressing to: MSc Fire Safety Engineering

The Master’s Foundation Programme here is a very good course. I’ve tried general English courses before and they were very different. Here we take everything seriously and I have the opportunity to focus on the things that I want to practise. At the moment that is PowerPoint presentations and research methods, neither of which I learnt on my undergraduate degree.

The fact that progression to my degree is guaranteed from UCLan FoundationCampus is a relief for me. It means you can focus on improving yourself and not have to worry about what will happen next year, as I know what I am doing when I successfully complete the MFP. After my Master’s I plan to return to my job with the Saudi Industrial Development Fund.

From: Siberia, RussiaStudying: UFP Humanities pathwayProgressingto:LLB(Hons)Law

I’m studying Media, Law, Psychology and English on my UFP. The academic modules give me knowledgeforspecificsubjectsand a good basis for my degree programme. My English classes have really helped with the skills I will need on my degree course, such as note-taking and writing skills.

I love the library. There are all the books I need and so many computers. It is a great place to work;socosyandcomfortableandopen 24/7. I’m enjoying my time in Preston, and life is much calmer than where I was living in Moscow. I was really surprised that people smiled at me in the street and now I smile more!

From: Taegu, South KoreaStudying: UFP Humanities/ Media pathwayProgressingto:BA(Hons)Film and Media

Iwanttolearnaboutfilmingdocumentaries and the UK is the best place to do that. UCLan is a really safe place to come and study and the people are kind.

When I came here my English was poor but I have really improved now. Most Korean students go to London, but I’m the only Korean on my course and I’m living in a shared house with Irish,French,BritishandItalianuniversity students, so I am speaking English all of the time, both inside and outside the classroom. The staff at FoundationCampus have also helped me to set up a language exchange programme with an American student so I expect my English to improve even more quickly!

I am free to give my opinions in class, and though the teacher may correct some of the things I say, my ideas and opinions are always valued.

When you’re applying from abroad there is a lot of competition and it’s great to know that we have a university place already secure. I’m in the university,100%!Ihavealreadyworkedfor companies such as American Express and Virgin Media and I know that with a degree from UCLan I will havetheknowledgeandqualificationsto open my own business.
