Explanation:• You will be creating a barometer to

examine the change in pressure.

• The balloon will react to changes in air pressure.

Page 3: Create Your Own Barometer

Step #1: Problem

• How will the balloon react to changes in air pressure?

Page 4: Create Your Own Barometer

Step #2: Hypothesis

• In your own words predict what you think the outcome of the experiment will be.

Step #3: Materials

• Glass Jar• Balloon• Scissors• A straw• A piece of construction paper• A rubber band• Scotch Tape

Page 6: Create Your Own Barometer

Step #4: Procedures1. Cut the blowing part off the balloon.2. Tightly cover the jar with the balloon using a rubber

band.3. Place the straw horizontally or sideways on the

plastic wrap so that two-thirds of the straw is on the can.

4. Tape the straw to the middle of the plastic wrap.5. Get a piece of construction paper and create your

reader. (I’ll show a video to help with this.)6. Record the location of the straw on the index card

with a pencil.7. After 15 minutes, record the new location of the straw

on the index card.

Step #5: Results

• After you have recorded the location of your straw several times, write the changes you saw and any observations that you made while conducting this experiment.
