Your Assignment…

• Get in groups, and 1 person opens a Word document to make a list while the other 1-2 research topics online.

• Find 5 tips to share with the class

• Write the tips in your word document, copy and paste the URLs where you get these tips from into your Word document.

• We will present your findings to the class

Log in to Wordpress

• Go to Wordpress.com, login & Password you created yesterday in upper left hand corner

• My Blogs <Name of the Blog you created yesterday> Dashboard

• Edit or Create a new post or page– Click “Show Kitchen Sink” button to see all options,

– Add formatting, bold, underline, etc. – Work on content

Add Images

• Drag and drop, or select from your thumb drive

• Click From URL tab and paste in the URL for the image (less reliable)

• Use Media Library to get to images you already uploaded

Other stuff

• Add a poll—next to the add image button

• Make a link—highlight what you want to link, then click the insert/edit link button:

• Experiment with other buttons to see what you can do!

Sidebar Widgets

• Appearance Widgets (on your sidebar)– Drag and drop existing widgets – i.e. your twitter

feed, a grid of posts, etc.

• Drag Text over to “Primary Widget Area” – Title it About Me – Write a paragraph about yourself.– Save

Sidebar widgets

• Other widgets you might like:– Twitter, Flickr – connect your Twitter/Flickr/whatever

to your Wordpress account & make it display – Image – display an image on the sidebar all the

time– Blog subscriptions – sign up to get notified of new

posts

Appearance

• Change Header: Appearance Header – Photoshop or other programs: create a custom

image to go here (your theme will tell you the size needed)

– Select from the default images

• Not available w/free Wordpress.com site– Wordpress.org– GoDaddy hosting w/Wordpress installed

• Customize additional functionality – not available on free hosted wordpress.com– Anything you can imagine:– Share on Facebook– Translate– Auto signature etc

Themes (Layout, design)

• Themes: Appearance Themes – Displays random themes, click refresh for more

random themes – Look at Popular themes – Feature Filter to make sure you can do what you

want w/new theme – Preview theme, if you like it, click Activate to

change your blog’s theme

• Work on your sites—either Wordpress or HTML

• Tomorrow is Wednesday, 2nd to last day!– Share sites w/small groups & fine tune– Start presenting individual sites to the class– Be ready to offer constructive feedback to your

peers!
