On-the-Job Training (OJT) FAQOn-the-Job Training is an opportunity available through the

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

OJT provides reimbursement to employers to help compensate for the extraordinary costs of supplying training and additional supervision related to training. OJT employers may receive up to 50% of the wage rate of the OJT trainees for a period up to 6 months, with a maximum of $5,500 per trainee.

At EDSI, our process for assessing employee skills leverages our proprietary Skilldex system. Skilldex is a web-based system that surveys individual skills and identifies and catalogs the skill needs of employers – especially employers with a shortage of workers or a high demand for specific skills.

As the OJT employer, your company determines the benchmark for OJT trainees. EDSI will identify eligible candidates who meet your criteria and refer those individuals to the company for final selection.

The preparation and eligibility process is completed within 7 to 10 business days.

Eligible opportunities are targeted occupations with permanent, full-time employment and with the same salary and benefit structure as existing employees performing similar work. Training provides the knowledge or skills essential to adequately perform the job. The minimum starting wage to qualify for this program is $14.00 hour.

In return for OJT payments, employers provide instruction, equipment, materials and evaluation tools according to a relevant training outline. The employer is responsible for retaining the new trainee once the OJT period concludes.

A standardized OJT Master Agreement and Funding Contract will be completed with the company in advance of hiring a new trainee.
