    FINAL OJT REPORT

    Budji + Royal Design Architects is a company that celebrates a total approach to design, where

    the demands of architecture, interior design, furniture home accessories and landscaping are brought

    together to complement one another to create an integrated, seamless whole. This total design firm has

    set a performance standard; each work must be a masterpiece. This is a firm that welcomes the

    challenges each new project presents with fresh vigor, and bringing the style Tropical Asian Modern.

    The Budji + Royal family is very warm to me. They treat me like theyre young brother or son;

    they teach me everything what I need to learn carefully and with guidance and patience. Their

    teamwork is very effective, the discipline is superb, the talents everyone have is flowing just like a full

    basin, the values and traits are very valuable. Im always dreaming working on that type of company in

    the future. One thing is very noticeable on each every one of them; its the humbleness, the mindset of

    being a humble artist and a designer. And thats the number one lesson I cant forget about this

    company.

    I am the only student trainee they accept for these summer, the Administrations said that many

    tried to apply but Im the only one who got a call back. Im overwhelmed; Im always overwhelmed in

    everything happening in the office. I always think that this its a privilege training in this very good

    company. The clients, the projects, the names, celebrities whew! I didnt even thought about Ill be part

    of the team that will make theyre houses. I can say that this is my largest step forward as a growing

    designer so far. I really learned a lot of unusual techniques and approaches in different branches of

    design.

    As a trainee they are surprised of what I can do to help the company specially when it comestechnically in manual drafting, cad drafting, in 3d modeling and rendering, in digital editing or more

    likely to say in production. I provided them a good quality of work in less supervision and in a

    competitive level. They cant help themselves but to compare me to last years trainees. They say Im

    capable of doing everything just like a regular employee does thats why my service is in demand all the

    time and I think thats also the reason why I am the only trainee they accept these summer. they know

    they can depend on a PUPian when it comes to hard work and dedication to work. I cant remember a

    time that Im vacant. I cant remember a single day Im not productive honestly. I give my time everyday

    to produce something helpful for the company so t5hat I can prove to them that theyre right choosing

    me as their apprentice. Beyond that, I help them in overtimes and overnights for production.

    I absorb everything, the experience, the lessons, everything. I list down notes. Even when sir

    Budji and Sir Royal is giving the intent to the production team, i always listen because the method of

    giving their ideas or the intent for the design is one of a kind. Maybe many other designers give intents

    to their employees too but when Sir Royal and Sir Budji speaks for their design, its different, its a

    speechless crowd just listening to them. Especially in meeting with the clients, I was tagged into

    numerous meetings and witnessed how they express the idea of the design. I was amazed and I can say I

    should absorb that utterance and elegance of speaking for making clients wow!

    My furniture apprenticeship is the first training I focused on. Under my mentor Budji Layug, this

    is the first time he evaluates and grade a trainee in his long time running career. Im so blessed, I feel

    like I am so lucky I was the only one student trainee experiencing this kind of pressure and blessing. I

    dont know what luck I have but I shouldnt take it for granted. My officemates were also surprised.

    Meanwhile, Sir Budji preferred to have manual shop drawings so I helped them produce manual

    drawings and later I introduce CAD drawings of his furniture pieces and he is impressed to the

    consistency and efficiency of my shop drawings. Sir Budji is a disciplinarian, he often says to us to be

    systematic and organize all of our works for future searching. He dont want anyone texting or holding a

    phone while hes talking. He got ethics, discipline and values of a veteran designer. He got a lot of

    designed furniture pieces made up from sustainable materials found here in the Philippines. And I really

    learned a lot from his selection of materials, the form, shape and adaptation when it comes to a

    furniture pieces location and use. Sir Budjis design methodology in furniture is so patriotic and

    identified. After days of training with him, Im overwhelmed again by my grades he gave to me. He

    compared me to his other draftsman and Im flattered about his adjectives about me.

    The administration appoints Sir John Vigilia to become my mentor for Interior Design. Sir John isa Senior Interior Designer in this company for seven years. He is the one that takes care of it all after Sir

    Budji Layug gives the intent of the design, the proper approach and the feel of the design. Sir John is the

    one who handles everything in terms of meeting to the clients, meeting with the suppliers and site visits,

    mood boards etc he creates everything toward sir Budjis intent and after he produce it, it will be

    presented to Sir Budji for the finalization before it will be presented to the client. so the administration

    thinks that he was able to train me more iiterally.

    The first week of my Interior Design training is already full of activities. I was tagged in a meeting

    and presentation to the client. I was seating next to sir john and listing notes of the techniques in

    presenting your design, some pointers to improve my confidence when facing the client. And by thatweek also we came to another clients house in La Vista for the last arrangement of furniture pieces with

    sir Budji and Sir John. For the first time I saw that house my personal observation for the house is oh

    my God. From the landscape, to the staircase, to the grand door, to the interiors, whew! Its a package.

    On that day, I realized something in Design, its not how you put everything together, but it is how you

    feel it putting them together. And I will quote from sir Budjis famous quotation design is a feel, it is

    how you feel it, design is a feeling. I can now literally say that talent plays a very big role in achieving

    something especially in Interior Design and Architecture. Later weeks became so hectic complying with

    deadlines. I can absorb the pressure that the whole company at. Im giving my best to help and learning

    also my things. Its a great factor that its also a part of my training to experience pressure.

    Architect Royal Pineda is my mentor for Architecture. He is a PUP graduate also so he knows

    that a PUPian is full of surprising abilities. He puts me on a special team for a certain project, a project

    that he is hands on. This project is confidential so I will not mention it. I am so honored and

    overwhelmed again. The names of clients are superb. The projects were monumental. I cant describe it

    in a simple manner. Sir Royal is a meticulous guy. He is very careful in everything, the color, the

    presentation, the look and even the shade of a color it should be the same exactly what it is use to be. I

    learned a lot from him even for a short period of time, the way he gives intent to the production team.

    You could even record what he is saying if you list down notes slowly. He got so many design ideas.

    Another thing is how he speaks to the clients, he is so convincing in terms of implementing his designs. I

    wish could also have those charms. The method of conceptualization is superb, I cant even realize how

    fast he can came up with ideas. With the help of very talented employees, this firm is at the highest

    competitive level in my own opinion.

    Im so lucky this company adopted me as trainee, not just in office works, but also in outside

    interaction theyve given me privilege to be exposed and learn. Because in this field, it is not just how

    you draw, but how you implement it, how you prove it and how to build it.

    Its a great experience that I was trained very well by these very promising seniors in my chosen

    league. Its a mix of luck; guts and eagerness to succeed that made me feel these so satisfied in my on-

    the-job training. Im very thankful for this opportunity.
