COLLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING AUGUST 12th Offertory $13,958 | Online $2,451 | Total $16,409

NEWS AND EVENTS

In honor of Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd There will be only ONE Mass at 9:00am and the Parish Center will be closed.

Dear Friends: As Father Stephen expressed in last week’s bulletin, I, too, would like to thank you all for the kind words of love and support that you have shown us these last days. I must admit that I struggled with the message my homily should convey after the homily delivered by Father Stephen the week before. I, too, have been searching for some “bright spots” and some “signs of hopefulness” in these very difficult times. That’s why I shared the story of that New York City cab driver and the 90-year-old woman, who, despite her struggles, never lost her focus on Our Lord. The Gospel message from this past Sunday that Jesus delivered to His twelve remaining disciples was so powerful as Our Lord asked the very poignant question – “Do you also want to leave?” Saint Peter responds without hesitation – “To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” I wanted to deliver the message that in a world that desperately needs Christ right now, we cannot turn our backs on Him – the source of all that is good. Please mark your calendars. On Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., there will be an Evening of Prayer, Reflection and Reparation in the Church to pray as a faith community for our Church and for all those affected by the cur-rent crisis. The evening will include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, quiet prayer time, a short reflection, and Benedic-tion. After Benediction, there will be an opportunity for questions and answers. You may also be interested to know that we will begin our RCIA program (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) in a few weeks. RCIA is a process in which non-baptized men and women enter the Catholic Church or, if already baptized, enter into full communion with the Church. I am excited to tell you that we have twelve men and women, who have enrolled in RCIA this year. It is a tremendous blessing to have such a wonderful diverse group of people. We look forward to welcom-ing them into our Catholic faith in the Spring. Last week, I (along with Jonathan Camiolo and three other priests) had the opportunity to serve dinner for students and young adults with disabilities at the Young Life Capernaum retreat held at our parish. Young Life Capernaum gives young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure, to develop fulfilling friendships, and to challenge their limits, while building self-esteem through club, camp, and other exciting activities. It’s a wonderful ministry that provides tremendous opportunities to all those who participate. Finally, as Father Stephen mentioned in his bulletin article last week, there are special devices available in the sacristy for those who have a hard time hearing the Mass. I know that some parishioners have recently used these special devices and can now participate more fully in the Mass by hearing more clearly. Please do not hesitate to stop by the sacristy if you need some extra help. We would be happy to show you how the devices work. May God continue to bless each and everyone of you and all that you do. With love and appreciation, Father Vincent

Overnight Adoration: Overnight Adoration every 2nd Friday. The next adoration will be September 14th at 7:00pm and ending with Benediction just prior to the 9:00am Mass, Saturday, September 15th. Adorers will be asked to commit to a specific hour. If you are interested, please contact Pat Khanjian at 201-891-3262-ext 226, or [email protected].

Special Collection this weekend for the Eastern Europe: There will be a collection for the Church in Cen-tral and Eastern Europe. This collection supports Catholic organizations that provide affordable shelter and training for seminarians in a region that still struggles with the effects of Soviet rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the aftermath of Soviet rule. Please be generous to the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Visit www.usccb.org to learn more about

the important projects funded by the Collection. Please note: there will be a special collection next weekend for the Catholic University of America.

NEWS AND EVENTS

Happy Grandparents Day: Bring your grandparents or bring your grandchildren to Mass on the weekend of September 8th/9th, and we will capture the “kodak moment.” We will be taking brag book pho-tos after all the Masses. Let’s celebrate the family love!

Sacred Heart School Volunteers: Last spring when the students from Sa-cred Heart School in Jersey City came to St. E’s for a field day, the Sacred Heart stu-dents were surprised that they were permitted to walk on the lawn. It was so big, and so beautiful they thought it was just to be looked at! The volunteers from St. E’s, who spend time in the school with the Sacred Heart students, frequently have their eyes and hearts opened at the unusual perceptions that the students have. A view of the world through the eyes of a young inner city child is one that we do not often experience first hand. For that reason, volunteers travel week after week to help out in the school. The volunteers will be starting a new school year the first week of October. Anyone interested in this ministry is welcome to this meeting. Please leave your name at the Parish Center, and we will call you. Lunch will be served.

A Special Thank You Note: Dear Father Stephen, Sincere thanks from here and Maryknollers around the world for your kindness. Fr. Leo Shea, enjoyed his weekend, and the people of St. Elizabeth’s were very receptive. Needless to say, this is a great help toward our efforts to bring the “Good News” to all nations. May this kindness rebound you and your people. The St. Elizabeth Parish will be gratefully remembered in our Masses and prayers. May God bless your own wonderful labors. Sincerely in Christ, Deacon Paul Bork, Maryknolls

Fall Bereavement Support Groups: Both day and night support groups are being offered to begin on Tuesday, September 18th, in the Amadeus Room in the Parish Center. These groups will run for eight consecutive Tuesdays. Please call 201-891-1122 ext. 266 for more information and to register in advance.

September Monthly Food Collection: Bags are being distributed this weekend for our monthly food collection. Food bank supplies are low at this time of year, so please help by returning a bag of groceries next weekend. No time to shop? No wor-ries! Cash, check, or any kind of gift cards are joyfully accepted. Thanks in advance for your continued generosity.
