Issue No. 2
The School celebrated the many achievements of it’s students on Wednesday evening during it’s Annual
Awards. The event, held in a packed St Mary Magdalene Church, recognises the diverse talents of it’s students
with awards for academic attainment, sporting, artistic and musical achievement, as well as presentation of
Duke of Edinburgh certificates.
During the evening the Ian Swinburne Trophy was presented to the school house champions. It is named after a
former pupil who passed away aged just 14. The Emlyn Wibberley Award was presented to Sami Al Safadi, a
student in Year 10, who demonstrates the same qualities as Emlyn, who tragically died on his way to school in
2010.
The Sky Sports News presenter & journalist, Jacqui Beltrao, gave an inspirational talk, and Head Teacher, Helen
Dixon, called the event “one of the highlights of the Christ’s School calendar. Teaching and learning is at the
heart of everything we do. We are very proud, not only of our academic successes, but of the fact that our
students are well rounded individuals who have the opportunity to develop all of their talents.”

Last Wednesday a group of year nine French
students visited British Airways. They
learnt how important foreign languages are
for the company. The group enjoyed a
range of activities that involved using French,
including role playing in the aircraft cabin.
They also had the opportunity to visit BA
headquarters to learn something of how the
company trains and supports its employees.

Books For The School Library
Christmas is just around the corner
and many of you may find yourselves
making room on your shelves for the
new books you are about to receive
as presents over the festive period.
Any books which are in excellent
condition, and appropriate for a School Library (readers aged
from 11-18), would be gratefully received as donations. We aim
to offer an engaging and diverse range of fiction and non-
fiction for the students, and with this in mind here are a few
authors we would love to have more of on the shelves:
Michael Morpugo/J K Rowling/Anthony Horowitz/Jane Austen/
John Green/Thomas Hardy/William Golding/C S Lewis/Philip
Pullman/Richard Adams… and more like these. If you can
donate then please either send your spare books in with your
son or daughter, or drop them off at the School Reception,
marked for the attention of the Librarian. Thank you.
Don’t Forget - Year 11 Pre
Public Exams begin on
Monday 8th December.
