Highlights were certainly theconclusion of the joint ventureagreement with the well-knownIndian company Roop Polymers Ltd., the successful AEO certification, our ongoingdevelopments and new investments in future technology of freely appliedseals in Bovenden and Aachenas well as the considerableextension of our warehousingcapacities.

And by no means least, wehave been able to achieve ourambitiously crammed turnovertargets. That gives us themomentum for the impending

tasks in the coming year.At the start of the year, focus will for certain be on the start-up of business operationswith Roop Koepp Foam Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in India. Here, we anticipate the firstorders from India and otherAsiatic countries in the beginning of the second quarter of 2012.We are planning a significantexpansion of the productioncapacities at our affiliate company in Romania, KOEPP-ROMANIA S.R.L.. We will thus be able to provideour customers in WesternEurope with an even better

service than to date with selected cellular rubber grades.

Obviously Germany, being ourmost important market inEurope, will also receive thegreatest attention in the newyear. It’s precisely in the recentmonths that we have beenheavily committed to workingon securing fast and reliableturnaround of the productsimportant to our customers, also in the coming year.On the one hand throughincreased warehousing provision and on the otherthrough considerable investment in the plant and

machinery at the Aachen andBovenden factories. We willalso be pursuing this further in 2012. Over and above this we will be concentrating during the coming year on the modernisation and significantexpansion of our laboratoryand test equipment.

All in all, despite prolongeddiscussions over the future ofthe Euro and the EC, we arevery optimistic that, in concertwith your goodselves, valuedcustomers and suppliers, weshall achieve our projectedturnover and results for 2012.

Dear readers,

How time flies... 2011 is already behind us. We look now with confidence on 2012. Because the past year has been consistently positive for us.

We would like to thank you for your faith in us andour employees for their commitment and wish you

much success, health and happiness for the year 2012.

Sealing foams with elastomer skin

“The Aachen facility is perfectly tailored to the needsof our customers. Here wehave at our disposal sufficientstorage capacity in a newwarehouse which, by the way,can be extended even further. Apart from that, we also haveavailable the most modern planttechnology”, Dr. Ralf Tahhan,Key Accounts Manager, is pleased to say.In addition to the dosing robots

the required properties – suchas hardness, water absorption, chemical resistance, tearstrength as well as abrasionresistance. In agreement with the materialsuppliers, intelligent additivessuch as bonding agents, UV stabilisers etc. can beincorporated where they’reneeded. The internal cell structure thereby remains fundamentally

for one or two-componentsealing systems, a RAKU-SKINplant has been acquired atAachen. These supply, asrequired, a 2-component sealing foam in addition to ahard-wearing elastomer skin.Advantage: the foam core andouter skin can be individuallymatched to the application interms of hardness and density. This results in many optionsfor adjusting the material to

“The FIP(F)G technology isdeveloping rapidly. We’realways up-to-date,continuing to expand ourexpertise and driving thesuccess of this intelligenttechnology forward”.

uninfluenced by such measuresand still provides for thesoftness of the seal.

By virtue of the modular configuration, the productionof the classic polyurethaneseal and the application ofcasting and adhesive systemsin established grades remainspossible. These will certainlycontinue to constitute thestandard system.

“FIP(F)G – the success story goes on...”That was our title for the article on freely applied seal technology at the

Bovenden facility in two previous issues of insight.. In principle, wecould do that again here as it in fact moves another decisive step further –at the Aachen facility. The steadily growing acceptance of this technology prompted the mana-gement to offer our customers production at our HQ. Due to the secondlocation, we are not only in a position to produce more and faster but areexpanding by virtue of the clear logistic advantages for our customers inWest Germany and Europe.

Filter technologyA clean businessKÖPP filter technology combines tradition and innovation

As far back as the start of the sixties, the former managing directorWerner Köpp wrote the first chapter of this success story in England.Whilst there, he established the important contacts to the manufacturersof VYON® and GURON®. This resulted in the formation of the KÖPP Filter-technik department in 1965. Since then KÖPP has been providing itscustomers with individual solutions for fluid filtration, ventilation and extrac-tion, sound absorption and dust filtration.

• Filtration grades 5µ - 500µ• Physiologically harmless • Temperature resistance at

continuous temperatures of -70°C to +80°C

• Hydrophobic (standard) andhydrophilic version possible

• High corrosion and chemical resistance

• Low weight • Favourable cost/benefit

ratio • Environment friendly due to

good recyclability

Supplementary to this we canprovide you with the followinggrades of porous, sinteredpolypropylene with a temperature resistance of -70 to +120 °C as well asporous, sintered PTFE, thetemperature resistance rangeof which is an impressive -150 to +260 °C. PTFE is also water and oil re-pellent and exhibits impressiveanti-adhesion behaviour.

End-to-end positiveproperties

The VYON® and GURON®

filter materials are sintered, porous, low pressure polyethylenes, the polymerparticles of which melttogether at their contact

points. This produces anopen pore filter material with

outstanding positive properties.

Open to the most diverseareas of application

VYON® and GURON® are usedas filter materials as well asthe component parts of a filtersystem and in the form of agas-permeable membrane for the aeration of fluid orpowdery media. Die cut partsfrom VYON®, for instance, have proven themselves a millionfold over the years asflame-proof inserts in thevehicle batteries of blue-chipmanufacturers.

By means of its porous structure it is likewiseoutstandingly suited to soundabsorption, for example inmembrane pumps orcompressed air applications. It thus contributes considerablyto the reduction of harmfulnoise pollution. Modern medical engineeringutilises VYON® and GURON®

in the most diverse types ofanalytical equipment, e.g. forthe preparation of human andanimal DNA. Orthopaedicengineering deploys GURON®

moulded components, forexample, in joint inserts forhighly sophisticated prostheses.Further areas of applicationfor these innovative materialsare to be found in the paperindustry and likewise in sensortechnology.

Always in form

VYON®-rolls and sheets areparticularly well suited assemi-finished products for thelow-cost manufacture of strips, cut blanks and die-cut parts.By means of a special weldingtechnique, filter tubes can beproduced up to a length of 2 metres.

GURON®-moulded parts are produced exclusively tocustomers' requirements whereby virtually any shape orform is feasible. Because eachpart is sintered in a mould, it is possible to manufactureparts with a mean pore size of5µ to 500µ.

Technologycan look so exciting...

A breath of fresh air at KÖPP. Since the change in the executive, thecompany has presented itself with a renewedenergy which has also been recreated inwords and pictures. Doubtless, dear readers, some stronglyexpressive photos in the last issues of insight.will have caught your eye. The photographer Jan Michael Hosan has beenspotlighting products, technology and peoplefor some two years now. No simple task. Illustrating the rather plain and purely functionalwork pieces and machinery in an exciting waydemands creativity. Flattering accentuation of light, unusual perspectives and the interplaybetween sharp and soft focus are the emphases here.

Stolz präsentieren die beiden Betriebsleiter Detlef Wichand undWalter Koch die neue Produktionsstätte.

“The objective has been tovisualise the new companydynamic for our customers.Jan Michael Hosan enjoys ourcomplete trust. His pictoriallanguage hits the spot with usprecisely”, says MarketingManager Christof Carduck, happily. “Our work with cellularrubber and co inspires us. It has many appealing connotations for us. To putthis across to outsiders is difficult, for sure. Jan Michaels Hosan’s imagesreflect our love for the materialand for the quality of the products in an imposing andplausible way.”

“The work at KÖPP is alwaysvery complex, particularly dueto the lighting. That’s becausethe often dark material swallows an incredible mountof light and requires prodigiousamount of equipment”, saysHosan. “The great thing aboutKÖPP, however, is that everything’s always perfectlyprepared when I arrive. Themachines are shining, thematerials are ready, all thestaff have been informed andwillingly explain their work tome or the technical details.I’m always perfectly briefed. When I’m photographing atKÖPP, things really smoke.”

arm greetingsfrom SantaIt’s been a tradition at KÖPP for a decadenow: early in the morning on the 6thof December every year, Santa sendshis warmest greetings to Aachen inthe form of a huge, freshly baked“Weckmann” (sweet-dough man). And so it was again. All the em-ployees then look forward to a full750 grams which, if they wish, theycan enjoy shortly in the canteenrefined with plenty of butter andjam. And of course – whereAachen and Tradition meet, there has to be “Printenmann”gingerbreads. Every KÖPPerreceives a selection of theseas the classic spicy Printen or with a covering of nutty chocolate – as partners withprofile, so to speak.

sportsman Achim Raab wasdelighted with the success:“We trained twice weekly – attimes even with a professionalrunning trainer. That was wellworth it and, above all, it wasfun. I’m sure we’ll continuerunning together and participate again next year.Perhaps we can still motivatesome of our other colleaguesto join in.”

Former managing directorWerner Köpp was especiallypleased with the high numberof participants. With 70 yearsof membership to the traditional Aachen sports club,he is the most long-standingmember.

With 2,500 participants theywere in good company as theymade their way over 18 longkilometres from Vichtbachtalthrough Kornelimünster in theAachen forest to the ATGsports ground having to overcome a 140 metre climben route. Not something for theimpassioned couch potato –this demanded a huge amountof drive and a distinct military-style command over the proverbial “chicken” within.Runners’ training paid off here,
