Dear business partners,dear colleagues,

For over 70 years, KÖPP has been providingyou with sustainable solutions from cellular, porous and foamed rubber and plastic pro-ducts. Two locations in Germany, numerousjoint production facilities in Europe, most re-cent annual turnover of 33 million euros, over200 employees – those are the facts.

But what stands behind these hard-headedfigures? It's the people, our staff, who are jointlyresponsible for the success and who shapeour profile. In our house magazine insight.we'll show you which faces actually give theprofile to your partner with profile and in whichbranches we're alwayscloseby.

An important element of our company philo-sophy has always been the personal contactwith our business partners. We not only culti-vate a purely business relationship with ourcustomers but a partnership based on confi-dence and loyalty.

In this edition, we'll be introducing our cur-rent field marketing team. You probably alreadyknow one or other of them from on-site con-sultations of over the phone. No? Then pay usa visit at the K 2010 from 27th October until3rd November in Dusseldorf. We look forwardto meeting you.

Granting an insight is about establishingtrust. Only "insighters" know how it looks on the"inside". As our business partners we welcomeyou most warmly to come and look around. With insight. now appearing on a regularbasis, we'll be giving you ample opportunity todo this.

We won't bore you with dry facts – that's apromise! insight. will in fact show how excit-ing and varied our sector is and who thosepeople are who, with their commitment andpassion, are contributing to the success of ourcompany.

cellCellular rubber – our success story Today, KÖPP is satisfying itscustomers worldwide with awide range of producers. However, it all started withCellular rubber when WilhelmKöpp established his tradinghouse for cellular and spongerubber back in 1938. At thattime, we were still calledWILHELM KÖPP ZELLKAUTSCHUK AACHEN.

The company founder – thegrandfather of Oliver Köpp,one of the present managingdirectors, by the way – wasquick to recognise the steadilyrising demand for productsmade from this cellular material as well as its diverseapplication potential. Apartfrom natural rubber, ever moresynthetically manufacturedrubbers have been processedwith advancing development. The versatility of cellular rubberis as ever uncontested and itspotential far from exhausted.Which is why we continue to be inspired by this materialand our work with it – timeand again.

applications in addition to theconventional closed cell rubbertypes.

Impressive productproperties:• EPDM qualities with

outstanding weather resistance

• very good temperature resistance: from -40°C to +130°C

• high resistance to chemicals• ideal for use in

acoustic/insulation areas• water and steam-tight

(depending on compressive-ness)

• semi-closed cell structure with outstanding reset force and high level flexibility

• RoHS conformant • Compressive types from

< 6kPa and < 10kPa

Where you'll find our"mixed-cellulars":• Seals in air conditioning units

(automobile and industrial)• Seals which call for a high

degree of watertightness• Instrument and glass seals• Acoustic applications in

automobile manufacturing• Ventilation area of vehicle

interiors• Middle and B column seals• Sealing on roof structures

and extensions

NEWNEW

The secret of the success of cellular rubber lies in its internal structure, among other things. Because the cells within are"closed", i.e. not connectedto each other, cellular rubberis the perfect material for anyseal.

Our mixed-cell rubber products exhibit a special feature. We would like to present our latest products forthis demanding area to youpersonally at the Plastic tradefair in October.

Our special – the "mixed-cellulars"

HH/EPDM-VS110 andHH/EPDM-VS150are our mixed-cell cellularrubber grades which haveproven themselves above allin the automobile industry andindustrial plant manufacture –namely because of their special material and productcharacteristics.

The grades with bulk densities of 110 kg/m³ and150 kg/m³ are inspiring due totheir high level of flexibility, compressibility and outstanding"memory". Thus this highquality material opens up amultiplicity of further potential

Cellular rubber – our all-round talent There is scarcely a material as versatile as

cellular rubber. And scarcely anyone utilisesthis potential as extensively as we do. For sea-ling, insulating and for shock-absorbing. Assheets, blocks, rolls, cut blanks or die-cutparts – and also, of course, in self-adhesiveform. Thus KÖPP cellular rubber finds its wayinto virtually all sectors of industry and trade.

The fascination of rubber We've asked our photographer to create a special feature withthis remarkable and versatile material (see also title photo). Why? Because we just wanted to honour it with the attention which, in our opinion, it is due.

High-tech for high-end productsAn optimum production result – that is always

our ultimate objective. Which is why we arecommitted to the most modern technologiesfrom the leading machine manufacturers. Theresult: quality, cost-efficiency and environmentalcompatibility.

The most recently integrated machines forhigh quality products from the House of KÖPPare shown here ...

A guaranteed bond: The latest generation of flatbed veneering machinesHigh quality, fast and energyefficient – that was our motiva-tion for the investment in anew flat bed veneering plant. The advantage of this plant is that the veneering can becompleted in one single process. That's because thedouble belt press has contactheating as well as cooling. The materials to be veneeredare gently heated which induces optimum adhesionwith high bonding values. To further stabilise this bond, the veneered product is cooled back down again inthe veneering plant.

The capacities in detail:• consistent veneering quality • reproducible veneering parameters• utilisation of hot-melt adhesive systems

KÖPP on the moveGrowth market FIP(F)G:

We're growing with it.

Production facilities extendedFIPFG is the growth technology of the last

ten years. KÖPP has, in the interim, generatedup to 12% of its total turnover from freelyapplied sealing systems – and the trend isupwards. Which is why the facility at Bovendenhas now moved into a new hall: 85 metres long,18 metres wide, 12 metres high.

Herr Wichand, have your monthly earning meantime been enhanced by a mileageallowance?

Wichand (laughing): As amatter of fact, our routesthrough the new hall havebecome longer. But, being apassionate sportsman, I'mnaturally quite happy aboutthat.

And you, Herr Koch? Koch: What I'm delightedabout above all is that the

newly emerged warehousing capacities don't just matchthe current demands. They atthe same time make us fit forthe future. I was able to witness very closely how therequirement for production andstorage space was constantlyescalating. And this develop-ment is far from over. Nowwe're ideally prepared for it.

How have you coped with the move?

Wichand: Bit by bit. We plan-ned for three days per machinewhereby production on eachrespective machine was happily only down for one day.

How high were the invest-ments for the expansion?

Koch: The investments werecertainly formidable. The hallalone gobbled up the thick endof a five figure sum. Togetherwith the two new plants, with

the last being installed at theend of November, the volumeamounts to approximately halfa million euros.

How has the work changed for the staff?

Wichand: The workflows canbe configured more orderlyhere. That makes the workmore pleasant and at the sametime more efficient.

What's changed for the customer?

Koch: A lot, happily. Forinstance, they can now haveintermediate storage with usfor larger quantities. That alsoreduces their storage costs.Wichand: On top of that, thecustomer now profits from ourincreased and smooth-runningmaterial flow. We can producemore and faster. That alsosaves our customers cash, inend effect.
