Carl Newton Ganter, Jr. was born to Gladys Slay andcarl N. "Euddie" Gunter october 16, 1938, in Alexandria,Louisiana. He was the first-born grandchild of Mary Hooperand John Gunter and Louella Sullivan and Charles "Buck" Slay.

He was a graduate of Buckeye High School where he wasactive in sports and voted the MostAthletic and Class Presidentinl957 . He attended LSU in Baton Rouge and Louisiana Collegein Pineville.

He was married to his high school sweetheart, Jessie L. paulkfar 42 years. They were blessed with six children, Carl III,Rhonda, Melody, Penny, Fancy and Ryan.

For a while he worked as a roustabout offshore. Later heowned and operated the Pineville Motor Parts. In 1971 he waselected to the House of Representatives from district 27. Heremained Representative for 20 years. He was proud to have thehonor of representing the people that meant so much to him.

Since being out of politics he has enjoyed his rhirteengrandchildren, Ashley, Jessica, Carl IV, Mic, Mathew,Christopher, Lindsey, Jessie, Justin, Jordan, Corey, Hope andEmily.

He also has two brothers, John Otis Gunter and Travis Gunterand one sister, Gladys Gunter Norris. He was fortunate to havehis close friend, Robert S. Richardson, become like a secondfather to him later in his life when he married his mother.

Having his family and friends with him during his illnesshas rneant so much. The Thursday night prayer meetings withGlenda Paulk, the Saturday night singings with family andfriends, the visits and prayers just lifted his spirits and brightenedhis days. The laughter and tears of past stories shared will alwaysbe special.

God bless each of you for being a special part of our family.
