LOTS TO POTThe key to coordinating cacti like you see here is acrylic paints and a sturdy canvas. Paint the entire canvas one color, then use a stencil to trace the pots and plants. Next, paint each part and let it dry. Psst… We painted clay pots to match our artwork!

No paintbrushes? No worries. Try using common objects on your painting. Here’s what we used: mini spools, a miniature wooden flower pot, leaf-shaped foam, bells, pom-poms, a wooden skewer, a sponge and looped felt.

FAVORED FINDINGS

Tip: Think outside the box and find something that creates a shape you love.

If you’d rather not use impasto medium, look to creating the textured impasto look without it. This will require very thick layers of oil paint. This way, you can

still move and mold your paint around the canvas. Play around with carving and blotting the paint to create different textures.

First time delving into oil painting? Try this technique for an absolutely abstract piece of art.

1. Randomly drop small amounts of paint onto the canvas.2. Use a large paintbrush to spread the paint, blending slightly.

Tip: Try moving the paint in various directions for different results.

WRITE THIS WAYA little bit of paint can make a big statement. Here’s how: Use acrylic paints to cover your canvas in color and let it dry. Then use stencils to trace a design onto your surface. Finally, fill in sections with white paint. And just like that, professional-looking artwork.

Here’s a tip for getting that painting of yours to look realistic: Sketch a design onto the canvas, fill it in with oil paints, then blend the colors, working from lightest to darkest.

For adding texture to your painted blooms, look to using impasto medium. It’s paste-like, so it holds its shape and adds depth to the paint. Try using a

palette knife to mix and apply your impasto medium and paint.

Turn a plain canvas into fine art with the help of one thing—pouring medium! Here’s how: Fill a cup with pouring medium and paints (do this in layers without mixing your paint). Then pour it onto your canvas.

CAME TO CANVAS

Psst… For a geode, pour diagonally, then

add glitter and crushed glass to the center.

For a new way to cover the canvas, try this: Paint plastic wrap with acrylic paints, then evenly press your canvas face down into the paint. Lift the canvas and use a paint brush to fill in any missed areas. Tip: Dab a crumpled paper towel over the sand area to make it look different from the ocean.

BEACH BUM

A quirky oval canvas calls for a quirky painting to match it. We sketched a llama with pencil, then painted him and the background (using acrylic paint). Try shading certain areas (like in the wool) to make things look more three dimensional.
