    Race of the Day

    Underdogs Upping the Volume

It appears that Gubernatorial underdogs are making a final push to energize their basesand convert the undecided. Four of the top five most prolific Gubernatorial candidateFacebook authors are trailing in their races, according to polls.

Leading the way last week was New York Republican candidate Carl Paladino, whosecampaign penned 81 posts, an average of nearly 12 per day. Paladino, who trails in thepolls to Andrew Cuomo (D) by as much as 20 percentage points has focused onhighlighting his endorsements, stories about his campaign in mainstream media and hiscommentary on several issues. Paladino also wrote three lengthy notes in the pastweek focused on several campaign issues including his military service.

Iowa Governor Chet Culver (D) trails opponent Terry Branstad (R) by anywhere from sixto 15 percentage points, according to recent polls. However, the uphill climb has notstopped Culver from communicating with his Facebook fan base. Culver posted 66times on his Facebook wall with the vast majority of posts containing either pictures orvideos of his campaign stops.

Dan Malloy is the only member of the top five posters who maintains a lead in his race.Malloy, who is battling Tom Foley (R) in the Connecticut governor's race, has focused hiscommunications on his visits with constituents, making 23 posts in a 24 hour periodbetween Oct. 26 and 27.
