    Optimise the use of yourgearbox

With a manual gearbox, move offgently, change up without waiting anddrive by changing up quite soon. Ifyour vehicle has the system, the gearshift indicator invites you to changeup; it is displayed in the instrumentpanel, follow its instructions.

With an automatic or electronic gear-box, stay in Drive "D" or Auto "A" , ac-

cording to the type of gearbox, withoutpressing the accelerator pedal heavilyor suddenly.

    Drive smoothly

Maintain a safe distance between ve-hicles, use engine braking rather thanthe brake pedal, and press the accel-erator progressively. These practicescontribute towards a reduction in fuelconsumption and CO

also helps reduce the backgroundtraf fic noise.

If your vehicle has cruise control, makeuse of the system at speeds above25 mph (40 km/h) when the traf fic isflowing well.

Control the use of yourelectrical equipment

Before moving off, if the passengercompartment is too warm, ventilate itby opening the windows and air ventsbefore using the air conditioning. Above 30 mph (50 km/h), close the win-dows and leave the air vents open.Remember to make use of equipmentthat can help keep the temperaturein the passenger compartment down(sunroof and window blinds...).Switch off the air conditioning, unlessit has automatic digital regulation, as

soon as the desired temperature is at-tained.Switch off the demisting and defrostingcontrols, if not automatic.Switch off the heated seat as soon aspossible.

Switch off the headlamps and front fo-glamps when the level of light does notrequire their use.

Avoid running the engine before mov-ing off, particularly in winter; your ve-hicle will warm up much faster whiledriving.

As a passenger, if you avoid connect-ing your multimedia devices (film, mu-sic, video game...), you will contributetowards limiting the consumption ofelectrical energy, and so of fuel.Disconnect your portable devices be-fore leaving the vehicle.

Eco-driving is a range of everyday practices that allow the motorist to optimise their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

    Limit the causes of excessconsumption

Spread loads throughout the vehicle;place the heaviest items in the bottomof the boot, as close as possible to therear seats.Limit the loads carried in the vehicleand reduce wind resistance (roof bars, roof rack, bicycle carrier, trailer...). Usea roof box in preference.Remove roof bars and roof racks afteruse.

At the end of winter, remove snowtyres and refit your summer tyres.

    Observe the recommendationson maintenance

Check the tyre pressures regularly, when cold, referring to the label in thedoor aperture, driver's side.Carry out this check in particular:- before a long journey,- at each change of season,- after a long period out of use.Don't forget the spare wheel and thetyres on any trailer or caravan.

Have your vehicle serviced regularly(engine oil, oil filter, air filter...) and ob-serve the schedule of operations rec-ommended by the manufacturer.

When refuelling, do not continue afterthe 3rd  cut-off of the nozzle to avoidany over flow.

At the wheel of your new vehicle,it is only after the first 1 800 miles(3 000 kilometres) that you will seethe fuel consumption settle down to aconsistent average.

     Air conditioning

We recommend use of the automat-ic regulation of the air conditioning. It permits automatic and optimisedcontrol of all of the following func-tions: air flow, temperature in thepassenger compartment and airdistribution, by means of varioussensors (ambient temperature, sun-shine). This eliminates any need foryou to change your settings otherthan the temperature value dis-played.

Take care not to cover the sun-shine sensor A .If you select the automatic mode(by pressing the "AUTO" control)and leave all of the vents open, opti-mum comfort will be maintained andhumidity and condensation will beremoved regardless of the exteriorclimatic conditions. The temperature in the passengercompartment can only be lower thanthe ambient temperature if the airconditioning is on.

    HEATING, VENTILATIONAND AIR CONDITIONINGRECOMMENDATIONS

In order to be effective, the air condi-tioning must be used with the windowsclosed. If the vehicle has been parkedin the sun for a long period and theinterior temperature is very high, firstventilate the passenger compartmentwith the windows open for a few min-utes, then close the windows. To keep the air conditioning systemin good working order it is essentialthat it is operated at least once amonth. The air conditioning uses engine pow-er during its operation. As a result, the fuel consumption of the vehicleincreases. In certain cases of particularly arduoususe (e.g. towing the maximum loadon a steep gradient in high tempera-tures), switching off the air condition-ing saves engine power and improvesthe towing capacity.

    Air inlet

Check that the exterior grille for theair inlet, at the bottom of the wind-screen, is clean and free of deadleaves, snow, etc.

When washing the vehicle using ahigh pressure nozzle, avoid spray-ing at the air inlet.

    Air circulation

Maximum comfort is obtained bymeans of a good distribution of air inthe passenger compartment, both inthe front and in the rear.To obtain a uniform distribution of

air, take care not to block the ex-terior air intake grille located at thebase of the windscreen, the vents, the air outlets under the front seatsand the air extractor located behindthe flaps in the boot. The front and rear vents are fittedwith thumbwheels to adjust the airflow and direction. We recommendthat you leave all of the vents open.

Dust filter / Odour filter(active carbon)

There is a filter for excluding odoursand dust. This filter must be changed in linewith the vehicle's servicing schedule(see the vehicle's servicing booklet).
