A clean, efcient driving experience is at the heart of the Citron brand. Ourcars are designed to the highest environmental standards and fuel-efciency is amajor priority for our engineers. The Citron C5 takes this even further, ensuringoptimised CO2 levels by cutting pollutant emissions with its electronically controlledhigh pressure direct injection diesel engines, as well as its multi-valve petrol engines.

ENERGY SAVER TYRES

With a reduction in rolling resistance of 20%, Michelins Energy Saver tyres, ttedon HDi 115 models, reduce the amount of energy needed to propel the car alongthe road which results in a reduction in the f uel consumption. This is achieved with

no loss of grip or stability, with shorter stopping distances in wet conditions. Thetyres innovative architecture generates fuel savings of nearly 0.5 litres per 100km(in combined cycle), resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions of nearly 19g/kmand around one tonne less CO2 over the entire life of a Citron C5.

BIG IDEAS, SMALL FOOTPRINT

15 years of development have gone into our HDi direct injectionengines, making them rened and frugal. In combination witha beautifully simple Stop & Start system and sophisticated EGSgearbox, the e-HDi 115 Airdream EGS6 can achieve 62.8mpg andCO2 emissions of only 117g/km.

The EGS gearbox is an advanced transmission that lets you selecteither effortless full automatic shifts, or manual changes via thesteering wheel mounted paddles. Its part of what makes Citronefcient engineering unique. Stop & Start puts the engine into idlemode as you decelerate and stops altogether as you come to a halt.

The moment you take your foot off the brake, it restarts silently andwithout vibration. It helps to reduce CO2 by about 5g/km and fuelconsumption by 15% in the city.

GLOSSARY DIMENSIONS

HIGH-PRESSURE DIRECT INJECTIONDIESEL ENGINE

Our HDi diesel engines operate with thefuel under extremely high pressure, enablingmicroscopically precise injection control. Withthis level of management its possible to injectat different times during the same engine strokeallowing total control over the combustionprocess. This has allowed our engineers toreduce carbon monoxide emissions by 40%,unburned hydrocarbons by 50% and engineparticulates by 60%. Fuel consumption is 20%lower than a prechamber diesel engine, resultingin an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissionsand thanks to the torque available at low enginespeed it could be argued that driveability is nowbetter than in petrol engined cars.

e-HDi DIESEL ENGINE

The e-HDi 115 Airdream EGS6 engine iscapable of 62.8mpg and CO2 emissionsof just 117g/km combined with the EGSgearbox. It has a reversible starter-alternatorthat works in tandem with an e-booster toprovide a seamless Stop & Start function.Going further than other similar systems, thee-HDis Stop & Start puts the engine into idlemode while decelerating before coming to acomplete standstill. This reduces consumptionby 15% in urban driving.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)

Computer-controlled braking assistancedesigned to prevent the wheels from lockingunder extreme braking. This enables thecar to continue being steered and thereforecontrolled during this braking incident. TheCitron C5s ABS system is further enhancedwith EBA and EBD (see below).

FIXED-CENTRED CONTROLSSTEERING WHEEL

A Citron innovation that makes for safer drivingin every way. Whilst the rim of the steering wheelturns normally, the centre hub remains staticwhich means that all the audio, informationand driving controls operated from here stay inexactly the same place. It also means that thedrivers airbag can be specially sculpted to deploymore favourably than the round ones necessaryin cars with conventional steering wheels.

HYDRACTIVE 3+ SUSPENSION

An outstanding Citron invention built on thecompanys renowned hydropneumatic sphereplatform, Hydractive 3+ suspension offersthe ultimate in driver control and passenger

comfort. To begin with, the car maintains aconstant ride height at all times regardlessof load (either weight or force) which ensuresexcellent driver control. In addition, electronicsensors read the road and driving style hundredsof times a second and adapt the hydraulicdamping accordingly, maintaining perfect poise.The driver is also able to select two differentsuspension modes designed for varying degreesof comfort or sporty driving. The system ismaintenance free for ve years or 200,000km.

ELECTRONIC BRAKEFORCE

DISTRIBUTION (EBD)A conventional ABS system cannot accountfor any of the four wheels wanting to lockmore quickly than the others (for example,two of the wheels may be on snow and twoon tarmac). EBD reads the deceleration rateof each wheel individually and applies theABS principles accordingly.

EMERGENCY BRAKINGASSISTANCE (EBA)

As drivers we nd it difcult to instinctivelybrake very hard, but this is often what isneeded in those rare emergency situations.The EBA system recognises our attempt tobrake hard and in combination with the ABSand EBD systems instantly applies themaximum stopping power possible.

ELECTRONIC STABILITYPROGRAMME (ESP)

This is computer-controlled traction assistanceand is provided primarily through the brakingsystems. The ESPs control unit constantlycompares where the driver intends going(through the position of the steering wheel)

with where the vehicle is actually going and,if necessary, makes speed corrections to eachwheel individually through braking or enginetorque to keep the vehicle in line.

ISOFIX

A standardised and more simple method forinstalling child seats, each seat is clicked intoplace via a three point system. On the CitronC5, Isox is installed on the two outerrear seats.
