I left feeling optimistic about the November 2012 Election, and our chances to win. As Vince Lombardy liked to say, “There is no substitute for victory!” To this end, we must each assess our own calendars and abilities, and then volunteer to the max! It is going to take a synergistic approach – all of us working together – to cross Nevada’s RED finish line! Perhaps the one speaker that energized me most was former Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate and sports odds-maker Wayne Allyn Root. Mr. Root said, “Forget the polls. My gut instincts as a Vegas odds maker and common sense small businessman tell me this will be a historic landslide and a world- class repudiation of Obama’s radical and risky socialist agenda. It’s Reagan- Carter all over again.” Mr. Root backs up this conclusion predicting Obama voter erosion in these demographics: “1) Jewish voters will likely drop from 78% to the low 60’s due to Obama’s weak support of Israel. 2) Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage has alienated many religious Blacks and may result in a decline from 96% to 88%. 3) The nation’s Youth turned out in large numbers in ’08; however, now many have graduated from college and cannot find jobs. Others are disillusioned, frightened and broke resulting in a much lower voter turnout. 4) Obama won Catholics by a majority. Now the Catholic Church is suing. The majority is lost. 5) Small Business owners… I am a small businessman myself; I know literally thousands of small business owners. 40% of them voted for Obama. None will this year – not a one. 6) Suburban Moms are worried about putting food on the table and fear for their children – not contraceptives. 7) McCain won Veterans by 10 points. Romney will by 24. 8) Blue collar white voters: White working class voters are about as happy with Obama as Boston Red Sox fans feel about the New York Yankees. 9) If Romney picks up Rubio as VP running mate, the GOP may pick up an extra 10% to 15% Hispanic vote. (Post speech: Now given Obama’s Executive Order to give work permits to children of certain illegals, Hispanic voter erosion will depend on how Romney and the GOP handle the result of the Order). President’s Message… Maureen M KarasFor those of you who missed the Conservative Leadership Conference in June, I have to say that it was just what the doctor ordered for me. My gut instincts as a Vegas odds maker and common sense small businessman tell me this will be a historic landslide and a world-class repudiation of Obama’s radical and risky socialist agenda. It’s Reagan-Carter all over again.”  Mr. (Post speech:  Now given Obama’s Executive Order to give work permits to children of certain illegals, Hispanic voter erosion will depend on how Romney and the GOP handle the result of the Order).Continued on next page...

President’s Message ...continued

Since our President sees people through a demographic lens, we must hope that these odds become facts on Election Day.  To read more about Mr. Root, see:  http://godfatherpolitics.com/5763/why-president-obama-will-lose-landslide/#ixzz1ykEDAh9P. Another speaker that lifted my spirits was Roger Hedgecock of the Roger Hedgecock Show, a syndicated radio broadcast from 3 p. m. to 6 p. m. weekday afternoons.  To people who say fiscally conservative reforms will not work, Roger says, “that is BW:  Before Wisconsin.  We are now living in AW:  After Wisconsin.”   Skeptics actually took a look; and, here is what they found.  When the union health insurance contract went out to bid, money was saved.  When “open shop” reforms were instituted making unions collect their dues instead of forcing employers to “auto draw” from paychecks, public sector union membership declined by ½ and the teachers union declined by 1/3.  And all those teacher lay-offs predicted by the unions, there were none.  Instead, teachers were added and class size shrunk.  Wisconsin’s fiscal house is now in order and operating in black ink! On the heels of Wisconsin came two conservative victories in California, not exactly a state known for conservatism!   In San Jose and San Diego public employee pension reforms were placed on the ballot.  The reforms won.  In both cities public services were getting slashed, libraries were closing and roads were full of

potholes.  Roger believes that when conservative principles are put on the ballot, conservative principles will win.

I hope you too see the relevance in ending with these words spoken by Ronald Reagan, the man not yet president, in his “no pale pastels” speech to CPAC on March 1, 1975.

“A political party cannot be all things to all people.  It must represent certain fundamental beliefs that must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. Our people look for a cause to believe in.  Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people? Let our banner proclaim our belief in a free market as the greatest provider for the people. Let us explore ways to ward off socialism, not by increasing government’s coercive power, but by increasing participation by the people in the ownership of our industrial machine. It is time to reassert our principles and raise them to full view.  And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way.”

Five years later Ronald Reagan became out 40th President. Let’s hope Wayne Allyn Root is right it it really is Reagan - Carter second verse!

See you next month!

What is the American Character?by Kristene Fisher, Americanism Chair

I attended the Conservative Leadership Conference in early June and heard Former Virginia Governor and now Free Congress Foundation (FCF) President and CEO, Jim Gilmore, speak on the economy and the state of our country. (The FCF has an economic plan worth a look - see here .) The thing that stuck with me the most were his comments about American Character. I capitalize it because I think it is something we should all think about in a BIG LETTER way. What is the American Character? When I grew up it was a people who were willing to work, to work hard, for a fair wage, for the opportunity to have a better life, AND to create a better

life for the next generation. Is the American Character dead? Is it changed? I'm afraid it is being lost. When was the last time we had a conversation with ourselves, our families, and our neighbors about our values and about our character as a people? When we hire an employee or become someone's friend, isn't it their character that concerns us the most? And most certainly, when we elect someone to represent us their character is a paramount concern. So, I challenge you to take a moment and think about Your American Character and then engage someone in your life in a conversation. Let's not lose this precious commodity.

God Bless our American Character!

LAS VEGAS-CLARK COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICT SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2012

During the hot days ahead reading gives children a chance to take a quiet break from otheractivities and keep their reading skills up to par until school begins again. The local Library District provides an excellent opportunity for children to read and be rewarded in many ways for their reading efforts.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Summer Reading Program begins on Friday, June 1, and continues through Tuesday, July 31. The Program is designed to offer children and their families a chance to share reading, attend special programs, and keep track of their reading successes and progress.

Children from birth to age 5 can join the Rubber Ducky Reading Club. Early literacy skills activities include a rubber ducky board book to take home plus an entry into a drawing for a chance to win a gift of books.

Kindergarten through grade 5 kids can join Dream Big, READ! This will give kids a chance to earn a Book Buck to redeem in any of the Library District Foundation's used bookstores, a gold medal and an entry into a prize drawing for a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card.

For teens grades six and up the reading program is called Own the Night. Reading teens earn a book Buck, a magnetic bookmark and an entry into a drawing for a Sony WiFi eReader.

For any of the above programs simply stop by a Library District branch on or after June 1 to pick up a reading log or go online at http://lvccldnews.wordpress.com/2012/05/09/srp2012/

THOUGHTS TO PONDER

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
