2018 Running of the Bulls Pensacola Welcomes the Running of the Bull Ole!! Headline: 14th-Century Spanish Festival Comes to Pensacola Viva Festival de San Fermin! For the 8th year, Seville Quarter is recreating the “Running of the Bulls” in historic downtown Pensacola. The tribute to Pensacola’s Spanish heritage will be staged July 20 to 21 in the area surrounding the popular entertainment complex. This year the Running of the Bulls will benefit USO of Northwest Florida. USO centers provide a warm and comforting place where service members can connect to loved ones via Internet or phone, play a video game, catch a movie, have a snack or just put their feet up and relax. Our local USO has centers at Pensacola International Airport; Ft. Walton Beach – Destin Airport and onboard NAS Pensacola. Thursday the weekend will officially begin with a Spanish Wine Dinner pairing food with wines selected by connoisseur, Bill Carlton. The cost is $65 per person (gratuity not included) and reservations will be limited to eighty guests. Patrons are encouraged to Spanish themed garb ~ the more festive the better. Friday, the Chupinzao (opening celebration) will feature a procession honoring San Fermin, the Patron Saint of Pamplona, Spain with members of the Krewe of Andres de Pez. A local “Padre” will make the traditional opening remarks and local dignitaries will dedicate the weekend to St. Fermin. The main event will be Saturday’s “Encierro” a safer reenactment of Pamplona’s Bull Run. This annual event, made famous by author Ernest Hemingway, has participants chased by angry horned bulls. The Seville Quarter Encierro features the Pensacola Roller Gurlz as well as other ladies from roller-derby leagues as the “Bulls”. At 9:00am the first canon is fired and the runners will take to the approximately two-mile course. At the second canon the bulls will be released, wielding wiffle bats, to chase down the participants. As is customary in Pamplona runners are requested to wear all white with red kerchiefs or sashes. Following the Running of the Bulls the festival will continue at Seville Quarter with Latin-themed entertainment; complimentary beverages (to registered participants) and food for purchase. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Group costumes, Best Horns (roller derby bulls), Best Senor, Best Senorita, Most outlandish costume and the Viva Pamplona Spirit award. There is no cost for spectators for the Friday night opening ceremony or Saturday’s Running of the Bulls. Runners (or walkers) may register prior to July 19 for $25.00. This will provide them with the St. Fermin Commemorative t-shirt as well as a wristband for complimentary beer and soft drinks. The first 400 registered participants will receive a St. Fermin bandana along with the 2018 commemorative t-shirt.

Wednesday, July 25th 6:00p.m. Some of the area’s top chefs will be preparing their own special Crab Cake recipes. A team of discerning judges will sample the crab cakes and rate them on taste, sauce, and presentation. Patrons will each be given three beans to use for the People’s Choice Judging. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. the public is invited to sample the assorted Crab Cakes while sipping on wine from area distributors. Thanks to the overwhelming support of local restaurants the event has been expanded to include Phineas Phogg’s Balloon Works, Apple Annie’s Courtyard and the Palace Café. Emerging from a conversation between our head distiller and the head brewer of Cork’s Franciscan Well Brewery, Jameson Caskmates has been finished in stout-seasoned whiskey casks. While our triple-distilled smoothness is very much intact, notes of cocoa, coffee, and butterscotch confirm the stout influence. Caskmates is a head-turning, modern Irish whiskey.
