Selector – Arizona Teaching Fellows Phoenix, Arizona TNTP seeks Selectors for our Arizona Teaching Fellows Program. This position will be based in Phoenix, Arizona. Training begins November 2012 and for seasonal work during the months of December 2012-May 2013. New Teacher Effectiveness TNTP’s New Teacher Effectiveness Group is responsible for recruiting great teachers to teach in high-need schools and subject areas, and for preparing those teachers to be immediately effective in the classroom. TNTP’s Teaching Fellows programs streamline the path to teaching for accomplished career changers and recent graduates. In 2011, TNTP recruited, selected and provided training to outstanding teachers in more than 20 cities and 18 states. In 9 of those states and the District of Columbia, TNTP is also approved to recommend teachers for certification through our rigorous, relevant preparation model, TNTP Academy, which has been shown to produce highly effective teachers. Building on this strong track record, TNTP is pioneering an evaluation program to recommend certification only for teachers who demonstrate their ability to advance student learning. Arizona Teaching Fellows In Phoenix, TNTP has managed such a program, Arizona Teaching Fellows, since 2007, recruiting, selecting, and training nearly 200 teachers to date to teach in Arizona’s most high- need public schools in Holbrook, Nogales, Page, Phoenix, Sanders, Tucson, and Yuma. And, in 2011 Arizona Teaching Fellows launched TNTP Academy – Arizona, among, the first accredited teacher preparation programs in the country to require all teachers to demonstrate their effectiveness in the classroom in order to then be recommended for certification. Arizona Teaching Fellows believes that high-quality first-year teachers not only shape the future of our students’ lives; effective teachers can and must close the achievement gap. Role and Responsibilities Selectors will be responsible for evaluating candidates for the Arizona Teaching Fellows program based on a highly structured and rigorous selection model. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a profound impact on how teachers are selected to teach in hard-to-staff schools throughout Arizona. Specific responsibilities include: o Successfully complete 10-12 hours of Selector training that will take place November 2012. o Interview 4 candidates per candidate selection event using the selection model with fidelity to document selection decisions. One 8 hour selection event will take place on each of the following dates: 12/15/12, 1/13/13, 1/27/13, 2/16/13, 3/17/13, 3/30/13, 4/14/13, 4/27/13, 5/4/13 Selectors will be expected to be available for a minimum of 6 selection events based on an agreed-upon schedule.

Selectors will be expected to provide their schedule upon hire (with the possibility that it would change based on availability and number of applicants).

o Use one’s own laptop during the interview event to capture and evaluate candidate performance and complete selection decisions for submission by the close of the event.

o Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive candidate documentation and communication.

o Attend one all-selector meeting during the mid-point of the selection season (tentatively March).

o Respond in a timely manner to staff inquiries regarding use of selection model, interview documentation, and other related administrative requirements.

o Demonstrate a high-level of professionalism in all communications and interactions at all times.

o Meet to review, discuss and norm selection decisions with program staff, as necessary. o Manage personal scheduling accurately and efficiently, being in constant communication

when emergencies and unexpected circumstances arise. Please note that if you foresee any long absences or lack of availability to be available for the minimum number of interview events, please plan to bring this to the attention of the Arizona Teaching Fellows staff at the interview. Also, please be prepared to discuss your training availability at the interview as well.

Qualifications Selector candidates for this opportunity will demonstrate:

• Knowledge of the local public school system and/or experience working with under-performing schools

• Prior experience evaluating teaching skills or interviewing teaching candidates (preferred) • Excellent time management skills • Strong critical thinking skills • Flexibility and persistence • The ability to work in a cooperative setting • A high level of professionalism and reliability in following through on commitments,

particularly scheduling commitments • Openness and responsiveness to feedback • Strong computer skills
