of copthorne village. copthorne was mentioned in the first domesday Book of 1086 as copedorne which translates as the pollarded, cropped or coppiced thorn tree. lying on the borders of West sussex and surrey, copthorne was a popular location for smugglers from the south coast who stashed their goods in the woods around the village. A copthorne resident is traditionally known as a yellowbelly which is derived from the local

charcoal burners whose skin turned yellow with the charcoal smoke.

to taste a variety of different beers. PreParation is key!

try to run the Beer festival during the NatioNal Cask ale Week to raise the profile of your pub and attract new customers. register for Cask ale Week by logging on to www.caskaleweek.co.uk.

the Number of ales that you stoCk depends upon the length of your festival, the size of your pub and the expected number of customers. as a guide, approximately 10-20 ales should be stocked, based on a festival of
