A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMITTEE

We are half-way through the year and we’ve enjoyed so many events. Our religious services in the past three months have increased several folds. We celebrated 10 major events in the last quarter itself apart from several other religious functions in the temple. Our devotee base has expanded. Last quarter was started with Mahavir Jayanthi and followed by celebration of Tamil & Bengali New Year, Adhikamasa Special Program, Mausam, Mandalabhisekam, Annamacharya Aradhana, HARI School Graduation, and HARI Anniversary-India Fair. Several Hundreds of devotees attended every function. HARI volunteers and committee members put in a lot of effort in making each and every event a memorable one to all devotees. We would like to thank all committee members and volunteers for their selfless service and time in serving Lord Rama. Our special thanks to all devotees, volunteers, sponsors in making the first trust fund raising event by offering the very successful cultural program, Mausam. We are glad to announce that we have raised around $25,000 from the event. We were fortunate to have three great scholars (Shri Bhupendrabhai Pandya, Shri Brajraj Sharan, and Shri Chidanand Saraswathiji) visit the temple in the last two months. They shared their enlightening and enriching experience with the devotees on Bhagvad Gita, Sankirtans, and Pravachans. All the events were enthusiastically attended.

India Fair, celebrating HARI anniversary, was an exciting and very entertaining social gathering. Delicious homemade foods, games, kid’s activities and great bargains truly made it an unforgettable day. Around 700 people participated in the India Fair event.

We are proud to say that we have a highly energetic executive committee and board of trustees looking forward to serve Lord Rama and HARI community as we are marching forward to the second half of 2010. We are always available for your questions, suggestions, and concerns. Thank you and may Lord Rama bless us all with peace and prosperity!

Yours in service,

Mr. Umesh Patel Mr. Ramesh Bathini Chairman, HARI Board of Trustees President, HARI Executive Committee

A word about Mausam…

“Mausam Was Awesome" is how many community members described this very successful community event sponsored by HARI. Over 700 people witnessed a classy stage show that showcased the wide talent in the Harrisburg area. The numbers attending was probably the highest for any locally produced, paid stage show in the area. Over 100 performers’ participated making it a true community event. The Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and many community volunteers made this happen. A huge congratulations and thanks to all of them. Over $25,000 were generated from tickets and sponsorships. Professionally done DVDs of the event were made available by HARI at a nominal charge and a small number are still available for purchase.

HARI Trust Fund… Providing Growth, Financial Safety and Stability

Hindu American Religious Institute “HARI” has been blessed with a congregation that has supported it unstintingly since the inception in 1975. We thank the founders and senior members of HARI congregation for their vision and commitment This legacy must now be nurtured and preserved for future generations. In 2004, the Board of trustees had initiated a “HARI Long Term Self Sufficiency” initiative. In 2005, “HARI Trust Fund “HTF” Steering Committee” was formed, which developed a strategy and an action plan. In 2006, an agreement was signed with “The Foundation for Enhancing Communities “TFEC” to manage the funds for HARI. HTF, being an Endowment fund, the principal is preserved. Only the earnings are used based on the need of the Temple with the Board of Trustees (BOT) approval. Donors fill in the “Gift Instrument Form” and identify gift purpose (HTF, Project, General Fund, Other). At present, various gifts are deposited and tracked separately. On May 23, 2010 the BOT had unanimously approved the following 3 policy documents (posted in the HARI website for your reference) as working documents, which are based upon the experience of the operation of HTF since 2007 and the recommendation of the steering committee: Gift Acceptance Policy Investment and Spending Policies HARI Trust Fund Committee and Related Practices

Why does HARI need an Endowment (HARI Trust Fund “HTF”)?

Operating expenses go up each year as costs of r utilities, insurance, staff compensations, facility maintenance, and supplies rise. Operating income needs to be supplemented for maintaing facility and expanding services.
