A MeSSAge fRoM ouR pARenT eXeCuTIVe The PURE Parent Committees have been busy! We are so excited to share our news. All Committees have met at least few times each since dance season began. The first order of business was to establish goals, and individuals to take on roles. We have to say how pleased we are to have such a terrific turn out to the meetings, and folks are ready to dig in. Here is a brief summary of what each group has been up to:

Community Outreach >

With great happiness, we’re able to report on PURE’s awesome Santa Claus Christmas Parade experience.

The PURE community responded wholeheartedly to the call to partici-pate in Chatham’s Christmas Parade on November 20th. We had about 40+ students and assorted parents attending, handing out candy and celebrating the start to the Christmas season. The atmosphere was fes-tive and fun, and we were fortunate to have a relatively warm and dry evening!

The parade couldn’t have gone forward at all without the tireless orga-nization of Kristin Heyink and her team, who spearheaded the collection of materials to decorate the float with Christmas trees, artificial snow, spotlights, benches for the students to sit upon and constant music play-ing throughout the entire parade route. Fielding a parade float requires hours of organization to get materials, encouraging others to assist with decoration, and vision. Thank you Kristin! Also, thank you to all of the amazing parents and students that gathered during the week prior to

assemble the float and bring the vision to life.

Tim and Christine Charron were the other indispensable piece of the pa-rade puzzle, with the very generous donation of the transport truck and flatbed without which the whole endeavour would not even have been a flicker. Additionally, the Charron’s provided in-door space over a number of days, to provide op-portunity to design, build and decorate (and take down) the float. If that wasn’t enough, they also provided 7,000+ pieces of candy to be handed out

along the parade route. Kudos also to the driver Bill, who drove a large trailer through an ever shrinking parade route along King street – not an easy feat.

Thanks to all the parents who provided support for decoration, provided “security” around the float during the parade, and gener-ally made a lot of work enjoy-able for the PURE students. You know who you are, and we know for certain that you are on the Santa’s “Nice” list!

Looking forward continuing to grow PURE’s community connectionIn the spirit of Christmas we are proud to be organizing a donation event for the Ronald McDonald House. We are offering all our families the chance to make a difference in a child’s life who is currenlty struggling with an illness. We have provided boxes at PURE under the trees to donate new, unwrapped toys for these children...and to help make this holiday season just little bit brighter for them! Please donate generously.

We are also working with the coaches to identify some classes to perform at a number of seniors homes in the new year. More details will be re-leased when we return from the holidays.

Fundraising Committee > The Fundraising Committee is excited to share some upcoming events with everyone. PURE Academy is non-profit orga-

nization and a collaboration of a talented team of individuals to offer the performing arts to the Chatham-Kent community. We are fundraising this year to help offset some of the costs of our competitive families, as well as introducing fundraising initiatives that benefit all of our families studio

wide.

50/50 DrawWe are selling 50/50 tickets from now until Saturday, December 19th - the PURE Christmas Recital (tickets will be on sale at the theatre as well). Ticket sales will go towards studio wide initiatives that benefit all of our families and will give one lucky winner some extra spending money before the holiday season! Ticket prices are 1 ticket for $2, 3 tickets for $5, and 10 tickets for $10. The draw will be held at the Christmas Recital.

Present Wrapping at Downtown Chatham CentreYour cure to gift-wrapping frustrations. This year let us wrap your gifts! PURE Competitive families are volunteering their time and resources to wrap presents at the Downtown Chatham Centre this month, up until De-cember 24th. The mall has graciously provided us with our own storefront that is located on the second floor near the food court – look for the signs! Please share with your families and friends. We would love to help make your gifts look beautiful! Wrapping prices are by donation and proceeds will go towards competitive fundraising families. Please see http://www.downtownchathamcentre.ca/events/month/ for our wrapping schedule or check out the DCC on Facebook.

Avgen Gift CardsWe are off to a great start with our scrip program. Avgen Gift Card orders are being taken every week, with orders going in each Friday. You buy gift cards at their face value and the retailers give us a percentage back – this is no extra cost to you! Gift cards can be used for most of your daily purchases (groceries, gas, household items, restaurants, clothing, etc) and

&

also make great gifts. If we had just 100 families using $100 in gift cards per week, we have the potential to raise $20,000/yr. Imagine if we could build this up to studio wide participation – we have the potential to raise over $100,000/yr! Proceeds from this program will go towards competi-tive fundraising families and then starting May 1st, studio wide.

Pig RoastThe Fundraising Committee is hosting a Pig Roast on Saturday, Febru-ary 20th at the CAW Hall on Merritt Ave. This night will include a pig roast dinner, live and silent auctions and a dance with music provided by SUPERFLY. Tickets are $15 advance purchase and $20 at the door. This promises to be a fun, family night out. *For all of those hockey fans out there, rumor has it that one of our live auction items is a VIP Box at the WFCU to see the Windsor Spitfires vs Sarnia Sting game. The box includes 14 tickets and 4 VIP parking passes. Mark your calendars – ev-eryone is welcome! Proceeds from the night will go towards competitive fundraising families.

If you have any questions about any of our fundraising initiatives, please contact [email protected] or your Parent Executive Commit-tee.

SHARE THE LOVE THIS YEAR...

HOW CAN I HELP?As the season of giving begins, we would like to oer our families of PURE an opportunity to give back, show we care and support those families who need a support during a dicult Christmas.

This year the Community Outreach Committee has decided to partner with the Ronald McDonald House. As parents we can all relate to the extreme stress & sadness that families endure when their child is hospitalized; these feelings are often magnied during the holidays.

We have placed a few boxes under the Christmas tree in the PURE lobby. Please consider donating an unwrapped gift that can be given to a child or family member of the child that is staying at the Ronald McDonald House

Thank You...Merry Christmas One & All!

Our PURE Heart goes to all the Dads who bring thier little girls to dance. It actually struck us to-night when a Dad arrived to PURE 30 minutes before his daughter’s class to take her to the washroom to ger her into her ballet attire (bodysuit, tights, ballet slippers) and I heard her crying. He was des-perately trying to get her hair into a ponytail. Then he came out of the bathroom and asked if anyone knew how to do a bun! Now that’s a fantastic and dedicated Dad :)

The PURE Month ly Awards are a way for the PURE Staf f to recogn ize deserving students . Through-out each month instructors nominate students in their respective d iscip l ines who have been demonstrating a l l of the behaviours out l ined in the Code of Conduct found at pureacademy.ca .
