Specials

Coding: Provides computer science fundamentals courses in which students develop problem-solving skills and persistence through difficult tasks. As students progress through the mazes, they learn directional and positional awareness. Students develop basic programming concepts including investigation and critical thinking skills.

Dance: Dancers of all levels will have the opportunity to learn new techniques and performance skills. Routines will build self-confidence and positive sportsmanship through team building activities.

Survival Skills: This course is designed to teach and apply the basic concepts needed to prevent a survival scenario including: water sources and purification, shelter building, fire building, map and compass use, emergency action principles, wild edibles and more.

Mathematics

Math Skills: Designed to teach students critical fundamental algebra skills. Some of the topics include simplifying expressions , real numbers, solving equations inequalities and graphing linear equations.

Pre-Algebra: This course emphasizes the study of integers, order of operations, variables, expressions and equations. Students will solve and graph equations, inequalities, proportions, and explore geometric and statistical concepts.

Algebra: Using variables to represent the unknown quantities and then solving these quantities by writing equations and inequalities. Course topics include a review of pre-algebra concepts along with additional including solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, rules of exponents, factors and polynomials, polynomial fractions, the Cartesian coordinate plane, radicals, and the quadratic formula.

Geometry: This class teaches students how to discover patterns, find areas, volumes, lengths, and angles to better understand the world around us.

English

Literature: Development of interpretation and analytical skills appropriate to novels, short stories, drama, poetry and essays is practiced.

Reading and Writing: Designed to increase skills in the use of written and oral language. The course also encourages open and clear communication and fosters reading comprehension, information, and reading enjoyment.

Creative Writing: Practice your writing skills while learning new techniques for drafting and editing. Explore the creative process working with your peers to create songs, screenplays and graphic novels.

Intro to Research Writing: Explore the research process from beginning to end. Plan, develop, draft and revise research papers using MLA style.

Journalism: Learn how to write news, features, editorials, and critical reviews. Practice interviewing, reporting copy reading, headline writing, page makeups, proofreading, typography and printing methods, typically used in journalism.

Science

Discovery Science: Allows for exploration of science across many disciplines: biology, genetics, geology, and chemistry. Students will understand and apply the scientific method as they explore the world around us. Designed to challenge and inspire, students are sure to discover something new!
