WHERE AS by sub-section (1) of Section 9 of the CustomsTariffs 1933 it is enacted that the Governor-General

may, from time to time, by proclamation declare that therates of duty set out in the column headed " British Preferen-tial Tariff " in the Schedule to that Act shall apply to suchgoods as are specified in the proclamation as are the produceor manufacture of a British non self - governing Colony specified

in the proclamation in relation to those goods, and thereuponthe British Preferential Tariff shall apply to the goods sospecified as are the produce or manufacture of the Colony sospecified:

And whereas it is desirable to declare that the rate of dutyset out in the column headed " British Preferential- Tariff " inthe Schedule to the Customs Tariffs 1933 shall apply to certaingoods being the produce or manufacture of specified Britishnon- self governing Colonies:

AN ORDINANCETo amend the Canberra Community Hospital Board

Ordinance 1935.

BE it ordained by the Governor-General in and over the Com-monwealth- of Australia, with the advice of the Federal

Executive Council, in pursuance of the powers conferred by theSeat of Government Acceptance Act 1909 and the Seat of Govern -ment (Administration) Act 1910 -1933, as follows :

1. ---(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Canberra Com-munity Hospital Board Ordinance (No. 2) .1935.

(2.) The Canberra Community Hospital Board Ordinance1935 is in this Ordinance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance,may be cited as the Canberra Community Hospital BoardOrdinances 1935.

Commencement. 2.. This Ordinance shall commence on the same date as thatfixed by the -Minister as the date of commencement of the PrincipalOrdinance.

3. Section three of the Principal Ordinance is amended byinserting, after the definition of " infectious disease ", the follow -ing ,definition:--

" ` pre scribed ' means prescribed by this Ordinance or by anyregulations or by -laws made thereunder ; ".

4. Section seventeen of the Principal Ordinance is repealed andthe following section inserted in - its stead :--

L' 17. (1.) Every person -who has for period of at least three Payment by

months prior to the date of his admission to. the Hospital as an patients.

in- patient. -or an out-patient(a) been resident within the Territory ; or(b) paid Hospital Tax,

shall be entitled. to receive, without. charge

(i) if an in-patient(1) accommodation in a . General Ward of the

Hospital for such period as is considerednecessary by the Medical Officer in chargeof the Hospital ;

(2) accommodation in the Isolation Wards if heis suffering from an infectious disease ;

(ii) If an out- patient such services as are provided by theBoard for out - patients,

but, if an in- patient, shall be liable, in respect of accommodation,attendance or treatment provided for him by the Board, to payto the Board all costs determined in the prescribed manner, in

excess of the standard rate, but not exceeding in any ca se the

difference between the standard rate and the actual cost of theaccommodation, attendance and treatment, and shall also be liablefor the cost (if any) incurred by the Board in respect of hisremoval to or from the Hospital.

" (2.) Every person admitted into the Hospital as an in- patient

or out- patient who has not been resident in the Territory for aperiod of at least three months prior to the date of his admissionto the Hospital, and has not, for that period, paid HospitalTax, shall, in respect of any accommodation, attendance or treat-ment received by him from the Board, and, if he were removedto or from the Hospital by the Board, in respect of that removal,be liable to pay to the Board a sum determined in the prescribedmanlier but not exceeding, in any case, the actual cost of theaccommodation, attendance, treatment and removal.

"(3.) In the event of a person who has paid Hospital Taxfor a period of three months as provided in sub section(1.) of this section being admitted to a public hospital in the Stateof New South Wales, whether in a public, intermediate or privateward, if the Board is satisfied that

(a) effective treatment at the Hospital is not possible ; or

(b) the person is temporarily absent from the Territoryand did not leave the Territory for the purpose ofbeing admitted to another hospital,

the Board may, at its discretion, make a payment to the personconcerned or to the public hospital, towards the cost of providingaccommodation for the person in that hospital, at the rate of sixshillings for each day that person is an in-patient in that hospital,but not exceeding a period of eight weeks in any one year.

" (4.) Any .persòu who has been a financial member of a con-

tributory fund of another public_ hospital for at least three monthsimmediately preceding his admission to the Hospital shall, on theproduction of a certificate from . the Secretary of such, otherhospital, be accepted as a patient in the Hospital and be entitledto remission of charges under this section, provided that paymentof all prescribed charges be made to the Hospital by the publichospital to whose fund the person is a contributor.

"(5 :) For the purposes of this section` accommodation includes maintenance and services;`services' includes the provision of drugs and dressings,

but does not include treatment ;` standard rate ' means the rate prescribed as the amount

chargeable for providing accommodation for a patientin a General Ward of the Hospital ;

treatment ' means medical treatment. ".

Board may. 5 Section twenty -two of the Principal Ordinance is .amended

remit sums ofmoney due. by omitting the word "maintenance ":. (wherever - occurring). and

inserting in its stead the words " accommodation, maintenance,services, ".

By-laws. S. Section twenty -five of the Principal Ordinance is amendedby(a) omitting from paragraph (d) of sub- section (1.) the

word " maintenance " and inserting in its stead thewords "accommodation, maintenance, services," ;and

(b) omitting from paragraph (e) of sub- section (1.) theword " officers " and inserting in its stead the words

medical and other officers, matrons, ".

1. (1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the City Area LeasesOrdinance (No. 2) 1935.

(2.) Sub- section (4.) of section one of the City Area Leases'Ordinance 1935 is repealed.

(3.) The City Area Leases Ordinance 1924 -1929, as amendedby the Seat of Government (Administration) Ordinance 1930, bythe Seat of Government (Administration) Ordinance 1933, by theCity Area Leases Ordinance 1934, and by the City Area LeasesOrdinance 3935 is in this Ordinance referred to as the PrincipalOrdinance. .

(4.) The . Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance,may be cited as the City Area Leases Ordinance 1924 -1935.

2.(1.) Section 12 of the Principal Ordinance is repealed andthe following section inserted in its stead:

" 12- -(1.) f Subject to this . Ordinance, the rent payable inrespect of any parcel .of.iand leased under. this Ordinance shallbe at the rate of five per eentum per annum

(a) the reserve value (if . any) placed by the Minister on.

the parcel,. -or, if no _reserve value is placed by. theMinister thereon, the unimproved value of the parcel

as bid by the successful bidder at auction or as wedby the Minister in pursuance of this Ordinance, asthe case may be, where the lease is offered bysuction;or

Minister thereon, the unimproved value plated on theparcel by the successful applicant for a lease thereofor as fixed by the Minister in pursuance of thisOrdinance, as the case may be, where applications areinvited for the lease ; or

the unimproved value of the parcel as determined bythe Minister where the lease is granted in pursuanceof the power conferred by sections eleven A, thirteenor thirteen A of this Ordinance.

"(2.) Nothing in this section shall prevent the enforcement ofany covenant by a lessee to pay additional rent where any amount .

of rent payable under this lease remains unpaid for such periodas is specified in the lease. ".

(2.) This Ordinance shall be deemed to have commenced on thefourth day of January, One thousand nine hundred and thirty -five.

REGULATIONS.PERCENTAGE OF DAIRY PRODUCE TO BE . EXPORTED FROM

AUSTRALIA.

HEREAS by regulation 6. of the Dairy Produce (Inter-state Trade) Regulations it is prescribed that owners'

iëences .:shall be issued upon the following condition(amongst: others) :--

That the licensee shall export from Australia, orcause to be exported on his behalf, ,during suchperiods as. a. prescribed authority specifies, such

percentage of each kind of -dairy produce (namely,butter or cheese) which is produced-in.in Australiaduring any specified period, and comes into thispossession or .custody of the licensee, as is fromtime to time fixed by the Minister, upon thereport of a prescribed authority, and notified inthe Gazette ".

OFFERS are invited until noon on the 25th November,1935, from persons willing to erect and lease premises forpostal purposes at Yandina, Queensland, in accordance withthe following specifications:

1. Building to be of ; rood with galvanized iron roof, andnecessary guttering and piping.

2. Building to be lined and ceiled, painted internally andexternally, height of walls 11 feet and stand on 3-ft blocks.

3. Separate posting boxes with chutes for letters and news-papers, suitably lettered and fitted with doors and locks,should be provided under the private boxes.

4. Standard counter in acordauce with this Department'sspecifications, fitted with two standard cash drawers, and oneordinary drawer, and with the provision of a small cupboardfor locking up trunk line dockets.

5. E.C. building with urinal for males, and separate E.C.building for females.

6. A wooden carcase for 20 private boxes to be installedabove the posting boxes. each private box should be of standardsize, height 5 inches, width 3t inch, depth 18 inches, the depart-ment to supply fronts.

7. WVritin slope to be provided in the public. lobby.8. A signboard- at least 8 feet in length, and bearing the

words " Yandina Post Office " to be erected in front of thebuilding.

9. Small iron heating stove to lie installed in the exchange.10. Hat and cloak pegs to be fitted in the post office and

exchange.11, One 500 gallon tank to be provided.12. Outside windows to liare suitable shades.13. The telephone exchange to be on the eastern side of

PPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to the posi-tions of Junior Research Officers. (2) on the staff of

the Council's Division of Soils at the Waite AgriculturalResearch Institute, Adelaide.

Applicants should .possess a University degree in agricul-tural science. The duties will involve laboratory and fieldwork in approximately equal proportions and will relateprincipally to soil surveys.

The appointees will be classified as Junior Research Officers,each with commencing salary at £312 per annum (nominal) ,equivalent to £282 per annum after deductions under theFinancial Emergency Act, &c. The appointees will each beentitled to an automatic increment of £12, and will be eligiblefor promotion to the class of Assistant Research Officer.The salary range of that class is from £344 to £488 per annum(nominal), by eight equal increments, the first four ofwhich are automatic -and the last four at the discretion ofthe Council.

The successful applicants will be appointed initially onprobation for a period of twelve months, but thereaftermay be appointed as officers under section 14A of the Scie7zceand Industry Research Act 1920 -192G, in which case theywould be eligible (subject to satisfactory medical examina-tion) to contribute to and receive benefits under theCommonwealth Superannuation Fund.
