WHEREAS by the Naval Defence Act 1910 -1918 it isamongst other tlrings enacted that the Governor - General

NEW SOUTH WALES.SUPPLY AND DELIVERY OF WOODEN POLES ON TRUCKS,

M ETROPOLITAN AREA.TENDERS will be received at the office of the Deputy Post -

master- General, Sydney, up to half -past Two p.m. on Thurs-day, 4th September, for the following work :-

Supply and delivery of about 225 35 -ft., 1,640 30 -ft., andS60 28 -ft. undressed wooden poles, on truck at variousmetropolitan railway stations, in accordance withSchedule N.S.W. C.B.16/19.

Specifications and _General Conditions may be seen, andschedules, &c., obtained, on application at the office of theState Engineer, General Post Office, Sydney, and at the officeof the Supervising Engineer, Construction Branch, MacdonnellHouse, 321 Pitt - street, Sydney.

Tenders must be addressed to the Deputy Postmaster -Gene-ral, Sydney, and indorsed " Tender for Undressed WoodenPoles, Metropolitan Area." They may be deposited in theTender -box at the General Post Office, Sydney; if sent bypost they must be prepaid and registered.

A preliminary deposit of a sum equal to 2 per cent, of thetotal amount named in the tender up to £500, and where theamount exceeds £5000 2 per cent. up to £500 and 1 per cent.on the additional amount over that sum, must accompany eachtender. Any tender which may be received without the re-quired deposit will be liable to be deemed informal and re-jeeted accordingly.

The Postmaster General does not bind himself to accept thelowest or any tender.

The accepted tender will be notified in the CommonwealthGazette, and such notice will be considered as an intimationto unsuccessful tenderers that ,their tenders have been de-clined.

TASMANIA.ELEVEN ACCUMULATORS.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the DeputyPostmaster - General, Hobart, until Noon on Monday, 22ndSeptember, 1919, for the supply and delivery of accumulators,as per Schedule No. T.289.

Tender forms, specifications, &c., may be obtained at theGeneral Post Offices, Melbourne, Sydney (Stores Branch, 64Harbor - street), Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and Hobart.

Tenders must be indorsed " Tender for Accumulators, Sche-dule No. T.289," and be addressed to the Deputy PostmasterGeneral, Hobart. They may be deposited in the Tender -boxat the General Post Office, Hobart; if sent by post they mustbe prepaid and registered.

A. deposit, in accordance with clause 5 of the General Con-ditions of Contract, must be enclosed with each tehder.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

TASMANIA. - OONVEYANCE OF MAILS, 1920 -21.TENDERS are hereby invited, and will be received by the

Deputy Postmaster- General, at the General Post Office,Hobart, until Noon on Wednesday, 24th September, 1919, forthe conveyance of post-office mails as undermentioned, for aperiod of two years, viz., from 1st January, 1920, to 31stDecember, 1921.

Tender Form.-Tenders- must be submitted on the printedform, copies of which may be obtained "gratuitously on appli-catiön at the General Post Office, Hobart, and at any post -officeor receiving office named hereunder. Every tender must besigned by the tenderer and sureties, and attested by a magis--trate or postmaster.

How to address Tenders.- Tenders must be enclosed insealed envelopes, addressed to the Deputy Postmaster - General,Hobart. The envelope must 'bear the words, " Tender for MailS ervice No.

How to. Forward Tenders. - Tenders may be forwarded bypost or deposited in the Tender -box at the General Post Office,Hobart. If forwarded by post, they must be sent as regis-tered letters, and postage prepaid thereon.

Conditions of Tender- Conditions of Contract. - Attentionis partici la.rly directed to the conditions of tendering and thegeneral conditions of contract printed on the tender form.

Separate Tenders. -A separate bond, fide tender must be sentin for each service.

NOTIFICATION OF VACANCIES.

APPLICATIONS will be received from persons qualified forappointment to the positions specified below.

Applicants outside the Public Service are eligible for appoint-ment to the Administrative and Professional Divisions, but arenot eligible for appointment to Clerical or General Divisionvacancies, unless they were in the service of a State on 1stJanuary, 1901, or are at present permanent officers in theservice of a State, or have retired from the service of theCommonwealth or of a State.

Applications must be in the applicant's handwriting, shouldshow fully qualifications for the position sought, and must, toinsure consideration, be forwarded to the Public ServiceInspector in the State in which the vacancy exists in time torear the office of the Public Service Inspector not later thanthe date shown in each case.

In the `case of officers of the Commonwealth Public Serviceapplications should be forwarded through the Department towhich the officer is attached..

In the case of applicants who are officers of the Public Serviceof the Commonwealth or of a State the following particularsshould be set out at the foot of the application:- -

Minimum and maximum salaries where shown indicate thelimits of the class or grade in which the position is classified.Subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act appoint-ments may be made at any salary within those limits. Success-ful appointees must comply with the life assurance provisionsof the Public Service Act and Regulations.

Officers of the Public Service should note that in any casewhere the minimum salary of a position in the Clerical Divisionis not the minimum salary of a Class, and the successful appli-cant is not eligible for the former by reason of not havingreceived the salary of the next lower subdivision for twelvemonths, he will be granted an allowance equal to the differencebetween the salary for which he is eligible and the minimumsalary of the position until he can be,advanced by annual sub-divisional increments to the latter salary.

Where vacancies are notified in positions which have been thesubject of award, the minimum and maximum salaries shownare those prescribed by the award. If the officer appointed toany such position is eligible to become, but is not, a member ofthe organization which obtained the award, he can only be paidthe rates of salary prescribed in the Public Service Act orRegulations for the position to which he has been appointed,unless and until he becomes a member of the organization,when the award rates shall. apply.

Officers who may be transferred without promotion or in-. crease of salary, as the result of an application for an adver-

tised vacancy, will be required to pay their own expenses ofremoval unless the transfer comes within the conditions pre-scribed in Public Service Regulation No. 54.
