Shooting Sports 2015 State Shoot Recap The Navarro FFA Shooting Sports Team competed at the 2015 State Shoot held in San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex on June 8 & 9th. Team members included: Allison Hensley, Allan Jonas, Mason Speir, Doug- las Gonzales, Connor McIn- nis, and Dy- lan Chitten- den. A big THANK YOU to our volunteer coach Mr. Richard Hodge for all of his hard work and dedication to our Shooting Sports Team! Students interested in joining the Navarro FFA Shooting Sports team must have completed, or be enrolled in, the Wildlife class and have their Hunter Education Certification. They must also be members in good standing of the Navarro FFA chapter. Practices for the 2015-2016 school year will be announced soon. Shooting Sports — 2015 State Shoot Recap

The Navarro FFA Shooting Sports Team competed at the 2015 State Shoot held in San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex on June 8 & 9th. Team members included: Allison Hensley, Allan Jonas, Mason Speir, Doug-las Gonzales, Connor McIn-nis, and Dy-lan Chitten-den.

Students interested in joining the Navarro FFA Shooting Sports team must have completed, or be enrolled in, the Wildlife class and have their Hunter Education Certification. Navarro FFA Members Continue Training During

Summer Break

Vice-President Eric Dugi, Sentinel Allan Jonas, and Parker Crain attended the

Area VII Leadership Camp in June. This camp provided them with the opportu-nity to develop and polish their leader-

ship skills.

Two Navarro FFA members traveled all the way to Washington, D.C. in July to

build up their leadership skills. Reporter Jaycie Braune and Taylor Laird attended the Washington Leadership Conference which is put on by the National FFA Or-

ganization.

Eric Dugi, Parker Crain, and Codi Harder attended Texas A&M’s Livestock Judging Camp in June to fur-ther develop their

judging skills. Parker was 10th High Indi-vidual at the camp!

Chapter Officers Plan POA at Retreat

The 2015-2016 Navarro FFA Officer Team spent four days (June 29-July 2) in Wimberley where they planned the chapter’s Program of Activities (POA) which included planning meetings, community service activities, and other chapter activities for the 2015-2016 school year. The officers also spent time setting goals for the coming year and worked on building and improving leadership and teamwork skills through various games and discussions.

87th Annual Texas FFA State Convention Recap Eleven Navarro FFA members attended the 87th Annual Texas FFA State Convention July 13-17 in Corpus Christi. These members were able to hear keynote speeches from former Harlem Globetrotter Melvin Adams and former

USDA Executive Jim Bob Solsberry, as well as addresses from Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Sid Miller and Gov-erner Greg Abbott. The members also voted in the state officer election, talent team contest and business session. In addition, Jaycie Braune was name the state winner for the Specialty Crop Proficiency award! Also, Ashley Merritt & Douglas Gonzales served as Texas FFFA Foundation Ambassadors, helping to escort convention sponsors and VIPs

throughout the week, as well as helping in other areas as needed. Douglas was also named the Ambassador “Rookie of the Year”! We also had five members receive their Lone Star FFA Degree, the highest degree in FFA the

State Association can bestow upon a member!

September FFA Meeting Our September meeting will be on Monday, September 14th at 7:30 pm in

the Ag. Building!

Our community service project for the month is will be a Water Balloon Fight

to raise money to donate towards the Erwin-Lee Memorial that will be con-

structed at the NHS football stadium.

Mr. Norman Lee was the Agriculture Science Teacher at Navarro High School

in 1971 and lost his life while helping Head Football Coach Ruel Erwin install

goal posts on the football field. The Navarro FFA Officers find it only fitting

that our FFA Chapter assist with the raising of funds for this memorial.

Water balloons will be sold 3 for a $1 and the water balloon fight will occur

following the business session of the meeting.

Area VII Greenhand Leadership Camp

The Area VII FFA Greenhand Leadership Camp will be held

on Saturday, September 19th at James Madison High School in

San Antonio. Any 1st year (Greenhand) high school FFA member is eligible to attend this camp, however, we are only allowed to send 10 stu-dents. Interested members

must complete an application and return it to Mr. Woerndel or Ms. Weller NO LATER THAN

Thursday, September 1st.

Stock Show Central 2015 STATE FAIR: Entry forms and fees due to the Ag Teachers NO LATER THAN August 17th. Animals must have al-

ready been validated for the State Fair in order to be eligible to show.

LAMB & GOAT TAGS: The deadline to order validation tags for lambs and goats to be shown in the 2015-2016 school year is August 24th to the Ag Teachers. VALIDATION WILL BE HELD IN OCTOBER!

Cost this year: (This is tag cost only. Entry fees for stock shows will be due at a later date.)

County Only — $5 per animal Major Shows — $15 per animal

BROILER ORDERS: Students interested in showing broilers at the County, San Antonio, Houston or Austin stock shows must preorder their chicks by September 4th to the Ag Teachers.

Cost this year: (Prices have not yet been set for 2015-16.) (This is animal cost only. Entry fees for stock shows will be due at a later date.)

County — Approximately $1.50 per chick; order either 25 or 50 per exhibitor Major Shows — Approximately $31.25 per box of 25 chicks; may order 25, 50, or 75 per exhibitor

ELIGIBILITY REMINDER: All FFA and Jr. FFA members must be passing the Six-Week Grading Period prior to a stock show to meet the UIL “No Pass, No Play” requirements and be eligible to show.

Booster Club

The Navarro FFA Ag Booster Club meets monthly, Au-gust-May, on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Next Meeting: September 1st, 2015 7 pm @ Ag Building

The Booster Club shares concession stand duty with the Athletic and Band Booster Clubs. Please check the

“Concession Stand” section for information about the dates our Ag Booster Club is responsible for working.

Navarro Jr. FFA Membership in the Navarro Jr. FFA is open to all Navarro ISD students in grades 3-8 whose parents are members in good standing of the Navarro FFA Ag Booster Club.

Dues are $5 per Jr. FFA member in addition to Booster Club dues.

Monthly meetings are held at the same time as the Booster Club meetings. The first meeting will be in Sep-

tember.

2015 Panther Fest Panther Fest is the annual fall fundraiser for the Navarro FFA Ag Booster Club and includes a BBQ meal, washer tourna-ment, and live and silent auctions. Panther Fest is held the 1st Saturday in September after Labor Day at The Grain Bin and will be on September 12th this year starting at 4 p.m., with a Washer Tournament beginning at 5 p.m. FFA and Jr.

FFA members and parents are needed to help work the food line, the live and silent auctions, and the dessert table. Help is also needed the morning of Panther Fest to set up tables and chairs for the event. All FFA and Jr. FFA members are asked to bring two auction items and a homemade dessert that is pre-packaged in individual serving sizes, as well as sell at least 5 meal tickets. Auction items can be dropped off at the Ag. Building any time prior to Panther Fest. All

presale meal tickets MUST be turned in NO LATER THAN Thursday, September 10th.
