Season 5 Episode 4"Family Matters"

Previously on LOST:

1) Locke's big speech about sticking together in 5.2.2) Juliet Telling Locke about the Island power source being geothermal in 5.2.3) Charlotte, Miles and Cindy in the tunnels in 5.2.4) Miles being dragged away by the monster in 5.2.5) Juliet and Harper's fight in 5.2.6) Charlotte finding the polar bear in Tunisia in 4.2.7) Charlotte finding her mother in 5.2.8) Miles telling Charlotte about her connection to the island in 4.13.9) Locke looking down the hatch in 5.2.

1) INT. ARROW STATION. NIGHT.

The scene is the the same as we left Locke off with in 5.2 with the camera angle being atthe bottom of the new hatch looking up at Locke at the top. Locke is holding a torch and thecamera goes back up the hatch to the surface where we see Juliet, Harper, Richard, Roseand Bernard standing there hovering over it. Locke has a dumbfounded look on his face ashe looks around for someone to explain it to him. He sees Harper.

Locke:

Harper. Tell me, what do you know of this?

Harper:

I, um, have no idea.

Locke:

I am done with the game of you people playing stupid. There is a new sheriff in town and ifI sense that anyone is holding anything from me, I won't hesitate to reprimand them.

Harper:

Honestly, John. I got to this island in 1996... which was after Dharma was gone.

Locke:

So, Ben brought new people to the island?

Harper:

John, you have no idea the things that Ben has done or who Ben has brought here.

Locke stands up and proclaims:

Locke:

Does anyone know what is down this hole?

No one answers.

Juliet:

There's only one way to find out John, but without power, I don't recommend it.

Locke looks around and appears to be flustered.

Juliet:

There's a back-up generator that has the ability to power the island for a week.

Locke:

And where is this generator?

Juliet:

The switch is at the barracks. It was located in Ben's house. Is that still there?

Locke:

Yeah. That's still there, but he's not so let's not refer to anything as his.

Juliet notices the pressure Locke is feeling and decides to step forward.

Juliet:

I''ll go.

Locke:

Not alone, you're not. Richard, go with Juliet.

Juliet:

I'd rather go alone than with him... hell, I'd rather go with Harper.

Locke ponders this for a second.

Locke:

Fine, go with Harper.

Harper and Juliet just look at each other.

Locke:

It would be a good bonding experience for you to work your issues out.

Harper:

Fine. I want a gun though.

Locke:

No need for guns anymore.

Rose:

Locke, we're somewhere pretty cold where polar bears could live....with polar bears on theisland as it is.

Bernard:

I'll go along.

Rose:

Oh - no - you don't!

Locke:

Yeah, let Bernard go with them. I can trust him with a weapon.

Bernard:

We leave in 10 minutes ladies.

Juliet and Harper eye each other up as Rose gives Bernard a dirty look.

2) INT. TEMPLE STATION. NIGHT.

Charlotte and Sawyer sit in the corner next to the woman in the chair that was revealedto be Charlotte's mother in 5.2. Charlotte has a look of disbelief on her face as Sawyer looksover at Cindy's dead body.

Charlotte:

I can't believe this. How could my mother be here, on this island?

Sawyer:

You'd be shocked at who's moms and pops wind up on this island.

Charlotte gives Sawyer a puzzled look.

Sawyer:

Is she alright? She don't look so good.

Charlotte:

Mom, mom! Can you hear me? It's Charlotte! Mom, please wake up.

Charlotte shakes her mother trying to wake her up, but the woman doesn't respond. Thecamera zooms onto Charlotte's face, who is crying, as the flash sound happens:

3) --FLASH-- INT. HOUSE. BROMSGROVE, WORCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND. DUSK. (JULY 17th1996).

A 17 year old Charlotte is putting her two younger sisters to bed in a room that theyshare. She is reading to them a book by C.S. Lewis, "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" ofthe series "The Chronicles of Narnia." Charlotte sits in a chair between the two beds that hersisters are sleeping on.

Charlotte:

....and that brings us to chapter 16, "The Very End of the World."

The phone is heard ringing outside the room.

Sara:

Oh, Char, read another chapter! Please!

Charlotte:

That's enough for tonight. It's just past midnight! If it were up to you I would read thewhole book tonight. Besides, you want to be rested for mum's return tomorrow.

Sara:

When will mummy be home?

Charlotte:

She will be home in the morning sometime.

Chloe:

Why did she have to go to the states anyway? Why couldn't her friend have come here?

Charlotte:

Well, mom hasn't visited New York in quite some time... now get some sleep. I will see youin the morning.

Charlotte kisses each girl on the cheek and quietly turns the light off and walks out of theroom. She walks down the hall to the kitchen where she sees her father huddled down on

the floor with the phone in one hand beside him and the remote control in the hand next tohim. He is sobbing. Above him is a calendar which indicates it is July 17th, 1996.

Charlotte:

P.W.?! What is it?

Charlotte runs down the rest of the hall and crouches down next to her step-father. Hejust stares at the television. Charlotte finally looks and we see footage of a plane crash. Itwas the plane crash of TWA Flight 800 according to the bottom of the screen.

News Reporter:

The plane apparently crashed soon after take off. There have been eye witness accounts ofan explosion, but nothing has yet been determined. Experts say that there is little to

no chance of any survivors.

Charlotte just looks stunned.

Charlotte:

Is that mom's plane?!

Her father shakes his head.

P.W.:

That was your mum's plane.

Charlotte looks back at the television and just stares blankly...

3) ---END OF FLASH--- INT. TEMPLE STATION. NIGHT.

Charlotte is still shaking her mother.

Charlotte:

Mother, wake up! (she slightly whispers the rest to herself) How can you be here? You'redead...

I was thinking that I could help you out with the tuition.

Charlotte:

All you have ever been to me is money. I don't want your money, nor do I need it. Yourcompany has always been more important. Just Leave.

Unknown Man:

Charlotte.. come on now...

Charlotte:

Just leave!

P.W. gets up and looms to let the man know to leave.

P.W.:

Mr. Staples, I think you should go.

Unknown Man:

Don't you tell me when I am done with my daughter.

P.W.:

David, don't make me make you leave.

Charlotte:

Dad, P.W. is my father now, he has been there for me my whole life. Just go.

David Staples gets up and begins to walk to the door. He turns and picks up a box thathe had brought in with him.

David Staples:

I want you to know that if you ever need anything, please, let me know... and here....

He hands the box to Charlotte.

David Staples:

This may help you understand a bit more about where your mother and I came from. I loveyou Charlotte.

David Staples walks out the door. Charlotte picks up the box and looks at it curiously.She puts it back down and runs into her room.

4) ---CONT FLASH--- HOUSE, CHARLOTTE'S BEDROOM. BROMSGROVE, WORCESTERSHIRE,ENGLAND. NIGHT. (JULY 1996)

Charlotte wakes up out of a nap with her make up dried on her face as if she cried herselfto sleep. She sits up on the bed and looks over at the box that P.W. must have sat besideher bed. She opens the box and begins to go through what is inside. She picks a necklace

out of the box that had a black and white stone on it. She puts it down then she picks up astack of pictures. She flips through the photos and in the first photo we see:

Photo #1) It is a photo of her mother and her father (David) standing in front of a house(that looks exactly like a house in New Otherton).Photo #2) It is a photo of her mother in a Dharma uniform with the Orchid Logo on it. WhenCharlotte looks at the photo she looks confused.Photo #3) It is a photo of her mother and father and her mother is pregnant. They arestanding in a street and it doesn't look as if it is on the island.Photo #4) It is a photo of her mother giving birth on an operating table with her fatherbeside her giving a "thumbs up" in scrubs.

Charlotte has a tear in her eye, but she flips back to the photo of her mother in the

Dharma uniform. She looks extremely puzzled. She turns it over and the date says 8/16/78.Charlotte then picks up a photo on her night stand and it is a shot of her mother standing inNew York City at Hunter College. She turns the photo over and the date is also 8/16/78.Charlotte puts the photos down and looks more confused than ever.

5) ---END OF FLASH--- OUTSIDE IN JUNGLE. COLD. NIGHT.

Charlotte and Sawyer are carrying her mother through the jungle between them with oneof her arms over each shoulder.

Charlotte:

So, how did you know where we were?

Sawyer:

I was following the sound of you guys underground. Those tunnels aren't insulatedvery well. Good thing your pal Dim-Sum has a big mouth...

Charlotte just kinda looks at Sawyer in a sad way. Sawyer realizes that the monsterhas taken him.

Sawyer:

I'm sorry about Miles, but that's why we are up here. I didn't want to chance it on Route666 down there.

Charlotte:

Thank you... for saving my life... I have no clue what that crazy woman was talking about.She said that for things to happen the way they are supposed to that me and my mother

had to die.

Sawyer:

Well, she was stuck with them for over three months. I guess she went a little loco.

Charlotte:

No, there has to be more to it. First, my mother was supposed to have been killed in aplane accident...

Sawyer:

Well, so was I. And I'm right here beside you.

Charlotte:

No, this plane had no survivors.

Sawyer:

Newsflash, Little Orphan Annie, my plane was supposed to have no survivors either.

Charlotte's mother starts to move and makes some groaning sounds. They stop for asecond and Charlotte looks at Sawyer and says:

Charlotte:

Yeah, well, you didn't work here for Dharma before you ended up on this island, did you?

Sawyer gives Charlotte an odd look.

Sawyer:

It shouldn't be much longer before we make it to New Otherton... I think.... this damn fog isthrowin' me off.

Charlotte:

Well, if it weren't for the fog, it would be a hell of a lot colder out here. Come on... let's go.

(1:40)6) INT. ARROW STATION. NIGHT.

Everyone is sitting around with torches wondering what is going to happen to them.There is a lot of chatter heard and Locke's name pops up several times. Locke hears this

and decides to pull Richard aside.

Locke:

Look, we have to get something straight here. From this second forward, you and I aregoing to see eye to eye, you understand? These people expect me to be their leader and..

Richard:

In all due respect, John, these people are only accepting you as their leader because Benappointed you as such. What makes you think you are the chosen one anyway?

Locke:

The island has spoken to me.

Richard:

What? Because you think you can see Jacob's cabin and hear Jacob, you think you are him?The one? (Richard laughs) You weren't even on the list.

Locke:

What do you mean, the list?

Richard:

Jacob's list. Very few of you crash survivors were on it.

Locke:

Well, who was?

Richard:

What does it matter now?

Locke:

Tell me!

Richard:

Well, Walter Lloyd was, for one.

Locke:

Well, Walt isn't here now is he?

Richard:

No, and I have a feeling that is going to be a problem. Ben really screwed up there. He leftWalt leave because he felt threatened by him. However, John, he didn't let you leave now

did he?

Locke:

Benjamin was threatened by me. He tried to kill me.

Richard:

If he wanted you dead John, he would have killed you.

Locke looks like he is about to hit Richard as Rose butts in.

Rose:

Locke, they have been gone for a while and the lights still aren't on.

Locke:

It's going to take them some time before they reach the Barracks, Rose. Why don't you tryto get some sleep.

Rose:

Sleep? You have to be kidding me. My husband has gone out in the dark into a tropicalarctic island forest... Whatever you did John, you really messed things up worse than what

they were.

Rose walks off. She sits down next to an older woman. The woman is Amelia, as seen in"A Tale of Two Cities." Rose looks rather worried. Amelia puts her hand on Rose's knee.

Amelia:

Don't worry, he will be fine. I can sense it.

Rose:

And who are you to tell me that my husband is going to be fine?

Amelia:

My name is Amelia. I've lived here long enough to understand to take everything thathappens, no matter how bad it is, with a grain of salt.

Rose:

So, what are you? An Other? A Hostile? An old Dharma scientist?

Amelia:

None of the above. I'm just here. I've been here so long that I have seen many groupscome and go... and somehow, I never went.

Rose:

What do you mean? Where did you come from?

Amelia:

Well, Rose, we have more in common than you may think.

Rose:

Besides old age, what is there?

Amelia laughs and Rose shortly follows there after.

Rose:

So, how did you end up here? Were you on a cruise or something (Rose says jokingly)?

Amelia:

Ah, that is where we have something in common. I was in a plane crash as well, but unlikeyou, I didn't have my husband with me... in fact, I didn't have anyone with me.

Rose thinks about this for a minute. She gives Amelia a once over and had a raisedeyebrow and a smirk on her face.

Rose:

Get outta here... you are not her.

Amelia:

I didn't say I was... but it would be a fantastic story now wouldn't it?

Rose:

Well, that would make you over a hundred years old.

Amelia:

108 this year..... I look good for my age don't I?

Rose laughs, but Amelia doesn't.

Rose:

You're serious, aren't you?

Amelia just shrugs her shoulders and has a quirky smirk on her face.

--Commercial Break--

7) EXT. JUNGLE. COLD. (DAWN)

Juliet and Harper are trudging throughout the jungle on their way to the Barracks. Theircheeks are rosy showing that it is starting to get colder due to the new climate. Neither arespeaking. The fog is hanging low at their feet and because of this Harper falls down and itappears she has hurt her ankle. Juliet stops and just looks down at her not offering to help.

Harper:

Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me up?

Juliet:

I was waiting to hear a please help me.

Harper manages to get herself up on to her feet. She shoves Juliet and Juliet falls down

backwards.

Juliet:

Damn it Harper! Real mature. I should have turned back with Bernard! I can't standbeing around you!

Harper puts a hand out to help Juliet. Juliet takes her hand and pulls her down with her.The two woman sit there on the hard ground staring at each other then Juliet busts outlaughing. Harper follows.

Juliet:

This is so ridiculous!

Harper:

We are both grown women acting like children... and I am supposed to be a therapist!

The two women start laughing again.

Harper:

The thing is, Juliet, I don't understand why you hate me so much... you stole my husbandfrom me.

Juliet:

I didn't mean to steal him, I just was incredibly lonely here. He was the only one who mademe feel comfortable.

Harper:

Yeah, he was a good man.

Juliet:

I should have killed that bastard Ben when I still had the chance... he took one of the few

decent people here away from us.

Harper:

How do you mean?

Juliet pauses. She thinks about what she has just said.

Juliet:

Juliet:

I'm not sure... should we get closer to check it out?

Harper:

Yeah... come on, be quiet.

They inch closer to the bear and the fog begins to clear. Then they see it, it is a polarbear pulling at a person who is stuck under part of a tree that has fallen onto the sonarfence that surrounds the Barracks. The tree is lodged in part of one of the towers with aman stuck underneath it. Harper looks at the bear then fires her gun at it hitting the bear.The bear lets out a loud groan then charges towards Harper pulling the tree with it as itcharges. The tree gets dislodged from the fence and the sonar sound is heard just as thebear crosses through it. The sonar blasts the bear and the bear flips backwards and runsabout 20 feet then drops dead. Harper and Juliet look at each other shocked.

Juliet:

I think we found out why the power failed.

Harper:

Uh huh. Hey, he's getting up!

The man is all bloody and gets to his feet. He then begins to walk towards Harper andJuliet saying something in another language.

Unknown Man:

Aidez-moi! Aider!

The man continues to walk towards the women. What he doesn't realize is that he is onthe other side of the fence.

Harper:

Stop! Stop! Don't come any closer!

Unknown Man:

Aidez-moi! Je vou...

Juliet realizes the man is speaking French.

Juliet:

Arrter! Ne pas traverser la barrire!(Stop! Don't cross the fence!)

It is too late and the man walks right into the sonar fence. He gets the full effect of thejuice and drops down dead right in front of the two of them. Once again, they just look ateach other.

8) EXT. BARRACKS. COLD. DAWN.

Charlotte and Sawyer finally make their way into New Otherton with Charlotte's mom inhand. Just as they reach the front porch of Ben's house the power goes back on.

Sawyer:

Maybe our luck is turning around.

Charlotte:

This place looks familiar, but I can't place it.

Sawyer:

You were here not too long ago, remember?

Charlotte:

Yeah, but I was distracted because I had just been shot in the chest... I can't place where Ihave seen this before.

Sawyer:

No matter, let's get her inside and warm up.

The two of them go inside Ben's old house. They put Charlotte's mother on to the couchand Charlotte goes to the kitchen to get her some water. Sawyer collapses onto a chairexhausted. He watches Charlotte as she hurries to get to her mother's side.

Sawyer:

So, you say that you haven't seen your mother since 1996?

Charlotte:

Yeah, she was going to New York City to visit an old friend she went to college with. Atleast, who I think she went to college with.

Sawyer:

How do you mean?

Charlotte:

After my mother died my father stopped by our house and dropped off a box of pictures.One of the pictures showed my mom wearing a Dharma jumpsuit and it was dated to be

August 16th, 1978. She would have been 18 years old. Then I saw another picture showingher in New York City at her college which I had already had and it was dated exactly the

same. That is when I started realize that my mom was hiding something.

Sawyer:

There is no reason for you to hate her just because he married her.

Charlotte:

She is half his age! Hell, she could be his daughter.

Charles Widmore:

Come on, don't say that, you make me feel so old.

Charlotte:

Well, Uncle Charles, you do have a daughter her age. Speaking of, where is Penny?

Charles Widmore:

She is talking to your step-mother... you know, she's pretty upset about this whole thingtoo. It would be a nice gesture for you to at least say that you are sorry for her loss.

Charlotte:

She should be sorry for my loss, she has stolen him for the past six years of my life...

Charles Widmore:

Well, look at it this way, your mother was happy that he was happy. He was very happythat your mother met P.W.

Charlotte looks off towards the water.

Charlotte:

You know, she's somewhere out there you know. Her plane crashed right off of this coast. Ihate that they still don't know why the plane went down.

Charles Widmore:

What's done is done. It is time for you to look towards the future. Speaking of, you startedOxford didn't you? For anthropology?

Charlotte:

Yeah, I did... I will be starting my second year.

Charles Widmore:

Why anthropology, if I may ask?

Charlotte:

Ever since I found out my mother worked for the Dharma Initiative, all I could do wasresearch them.

Charles looks away like he is a little uneasy.

Charlotte:

In all the research, I found it so amazing... the studies they did. I want to continue theirresearch even though they don't exist anymore...

Charles Widmore:

I will tell you what, if you need anything from me, like... money or funding for expeditions...just let me know. I'll help you out. You know, I am rather interested in Dharma too...

With that said, Penny walks up to the two of them.

Penny:

Sorry to interrupt, but they are about to say the final goodbyes.... Charlotte, Elizabethwould love it if you would stand next to her beside the casket....

Charlotte turns around and looks up towards the gathering. The camera gets a close upof Elizabeth, who is indeed, Libby!!!

Charlotte:

Uhhh... fine! Let's do this.

The camera shows Charlotte getting up and then focuses on Libby who is now smiling... themusic gets louder and louder as the camera goes to black.

10) EXT. JUNGLE. COLD. MORNING.

Juliet and Harper walk to the sonar fence. They look at the man who is now face down onthe other side.

Juliet:

Do you know the code?

Harper:

If it's the same one I used when I came to tell you about Charlotte and Daniel going to theTempest, then yes.

Harper goes to the fence and enters the code. It works and the fence shuts down. Shemotions for Juliet to come forward. They both walk over to the man who is laying facedown. Juliet flips him over. He is bleeding from his eyes, ears and mouth. Harper cringes.

Harper:

Who do you think he is?

Juliet:

I have no idea. I've never seen him before.

Harper:

What was the language you spoke to him?

Juliet:

French, that was French.

Harper:

I don't know any of us who were French.

Juliet:

Maybe he was left over from the freighter people... left behind?

Harper:

That's a good guess. Do you think there are more?

Juliet looks the man over. We see he is baddly cut up and bruised. There is bloodeverywhere.

Juliet:

He was running from something.

Harper:

The bear?

Juliet:

No, the bear came after... and by the looks of it, it got his arm.

Harper:

You don't think it was the....

Juliet:

No, I sure as hell hope not. Come on, let's get to the barracks. We should get warm beforewe head back.

Harper:

Yeah, I'm starving too.

Juliet:

(jokingly) Want some polar bear?

The two woman move off towards New Otherton.

11) INT. BEN'S HOUSE. NEW OTHERTON. MORNING.

Charlotte and Sawyer are looking through some of Ben's things and they begin to talk.

Sawyer:

So, tell me Charlotte... why were you and your scientist friends on this expedition with abunch of renegade marines?

Charlotte:

Well... I don't want to discuss this with you.

Sawyer:

Oh, come on now.... you're one of us, you heard Locke's speech. Besides, who am I gonnato tell?

Charlotte stops and turns she looks at Sawyer rather intently.

Charlotte:

Tell me first why you made the comment about mothers and fathers popping up on thisisland.

Sawyer looks at her, then he looks down. He looks back up at her then shakes hes head.They are silent for a minute and begin to dig around Ben's stuff again when Sawyer gets a"wtf why not" look on his face.

Sawyer:

You want to know why? I mean, I ain't got nothin' to lose anymore...

Charlotte:

Yeah, let's hear it.

Sawyer:

Well, hold on to your long-stalkings, Pippi, because this is gonna to be a doozy..... a fewweeks ago, before you guys all showed up, I killed a man.

Charlotte doesn't blink. She motions "go on."Sawyer:

Well, my story isn't nearly as creative or exciting...

Sawyer looks at her as if to go on...

Charlotte:

My uncle, Charles Widmore...

Sawyer:

Whoa, whoa, whoa... hold up! You are Widmore's niece? The guy who came here to get thebunny killer and kill the rest of us?

Charlotte:

Well, to be fair, we were only going to kill you if you got in the way... which you did.

Sawyer:

But you had no intention to save us either did you?

Charlotte:

No, but once we got here, Daniel and I decided that we had to. We couldn't leave youbehind.

Sawyer:

Well, why did you stay behind, why didn't you go with your boyfriend?

Charlotte:

Daniel is not my boyfriend. I didn't go because I have reason to believe that I have somekind of past with this island... obviously I do....

Charlotte points in the direction of her mother. She goes back to telling Sawyer her storyuntil they hear banging at the door. Sawyer turns frantically and points his gun at the door.Harper's face is in the window and Sawyer pulls the trigger. Harper luckily ducks before thebullet goes through. They open the door.

Harper:

What the hell?! Didn't you hear Locke's speech! We're friends now!!!

It seems as if everyone is mocking Locke's speech from 5.2.

Sawyer:

Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't recognize your face and I just... it was a gut reaction. Are you all-right?

Harper:

A lead to what exactly?

Charles Widmore:

I didn't want to tell you just yet, but I guess it's time. As you found out, there is rumors of a

lost Dharma Island somewhere in the ocean right?

Charlotte:

Right.... go on!

Charles Widmore:

Well, I think I may have located it... in fact, with this evidence, I believe that I mostcertainly have located it.

Charlotte:

Fantastic!

Charles Widmore:

First though, Charlotte, I need to tell you something. Something you may not be happy tobe hearing for the first time.

Charlotte's demeanor changes almost instantaneously.

Charlotte:

Go on...

Charles Widmore:

Well, I know that this is where your mother worked with Dharma. Your father as well. Infact, this is where they met.

Charlotte:

You mean, in 1978?

Charles Widmore:

So... you know already?

Charlotte:

I've done my homework.... there was a date on the back of one of my mother's photos, butI had no idea my father worked for Dharma as well.

Charles Widmore:

Well, he did.... I did too.

Charlotte looks rather appalled. She stands up from her chair in a rush.

Charlotte:

You mean, you worked with Dharma and you didn't tell me?! After all this time?!

Charles Widmore:

Please, lower your voice. I couldn't tell you. I wanted you to find out all you could aboutDharma, on your own... and you did. You did a great job, my dear.

Charlotte:

Thank you, but honestly, why hide it?

Charles Widmore:

Because I was kicked off the island. I don't want to go into details, but I had to leave. Yourmother and father chose to leave, so they had to make up a fake past for the year they

were missing from the outside world.... Dharma was very secretive.

Charlotte:

It makes sense, I suppose. What is it my parents did for Dharma?

Charles Widmore:

Charlotte:

Is this dangerous?

Charles Widmore:

It might be, that is why I'm sending in reinforcements with you. You will have access to ateam that have special abilities that can help you on the island. I want you to lead these

people though. It is imperative that you find Benjamin Linus, but do not kill him. It is very,very, important that you do not kill him. Understand?

Charlotte:

I don't know about this, Uncle Charles. I'm not a spy.

Charles Widmore:

You know over 5 languages... you are already half of a spy, Charlotte!

Charlotte calms down a little by the joke. Charles smiles, but gets very serious again. Hehands her a book with protocol in it.

Charles Widmore:

In this book, you will find everything you need to know before you get onto the island....and Charlotte, I want you to know that you have license to kill anyone who gets in your way

of finding and capturing Ben Linus, you understand?

Charlotte looks down... unsure of the situation.

Charles Widmore:

Can I sleep on it?

Charles Widmore:

Sure. I will call you tomorrow, but you better decide fast, you will be shipping out soon. Andplease, don't discuss this with anyone else.

Charlotte gets up and walks out of the office. As she opens the door she hits ChristineDeVries who is listening in on the other side. She shuts the door. Charles Widmore makes a

phone call as she leaves.

Charles Widmore:

(into the phone) She is in. She knows too much, so make sure she does not leave theisland, you understand me, Mr. Keamy? Good.

Charles hangs up the phone and the flash sound comes back on.

Sawyer is asleep on the chair as Juliet and Charlotte are tending to Charlotte's mother.Harper is looking through Ben's desk. She sees a photo of Goodwin with an X through hisface. She looks sad, yet angry.

Juliet:

So, what is your mother's name?

Charlotte:

Jeanette.

Juliet:

Oh, and you say she used to work for Dharma?

Charlotte:

Yeah, back in the 70's I believe. I'm still not sure of her entire past, I never met any of mygrandparents.

14) --FLASH-- INT. THE STAFF STATION. NIGHT. (JULY 2, 1979).

There is a woman giving birth on the operating table. Everything is very hectic. It isJeanette. Doctors are all around her. She is screaming. On the side of the room is CharlesWidmore and David Staples. They are talking together.

Charles Widmore:

So, that's it then? After you have the baby you are just going to leave the island?

David Staples:

That's it. I want our baby to have a normal life.

Charles Widmore:

I will miss you, brother.

David Staples:

You mean, half-brother (he chuckles).

Charles Widmore:

We may only share a mother, but that doesn't mean we don't share a hell of a lot morethan that.

David Staples:

I've never heard a more true statement in my life.

Jeanette screams and the doctors are chattering doctor talk all around her.

Jeanette:

David, get over here, now!

Charles Widmore:

Get to it brother.

The two men hug and David goes to help his wife. Charles steps out of the room wherehe sees a 16 year old Ben Linus pacing the halls.

Charles Widmore:

Ben, what in bloody hell are you doing in here?

Ben:

How is she? Is she all-right?

Charles Widmore:

Yes, now settle down. Listen, Ben, you are going to have to get over this...

Ben:

Get over what?

Charles Widmore:

They are leaving after the baby is born... it will finally give us a chance to work in peace onour plan without my brother getting in the way.

Ben:

What do you mean, they're leaving?!

With that, Ben rushes through the operating room doors and rushes up to Jeanette whois laying on the table about to give her final push.

Ben:

You can't leave! You can't do this to me! You have to stay! I love you! I love you!

David Widmore:

Get out of here, Ben! You have to let go of her, that was years ago!

Ben:

I love you! Annie I love you!

Charles rushes in and grabs on to Ben. He manages to pull Ben out of the room as Ben isscreaming.

Ben:

I love you Annie! I will find you one day! I swear! I love you!

Charles manages to get Ben out of the room. Jeanette "Annie" gives one final push andthe baby is out. David hugs onto his wife.

Doctor:

It's a girl.

David and Annie look at each other and smile. The flash sound comes on and....

15) INT. ARROW STATION. DAWN.

Everyone in the station is sleeping, huddled together to keep warm. Everyone that is,except for Locke. Locke is staring at the hatch with a very determined, yet worrisomeface. The lights flicker and the power is back on, fully restored. This wakes everyone up.The first one to wake is Rose. She looks around and sees that Locke is awake.

Rose:

Locke! They did it! They got the power back! They made it!

Amelia:

See, I told you he would be ok.

Locke:

Alright, I guess it's time, now isn't it?

As Locke says this he is looking at Richard. The two men get up along with Rose andsome other others. They make their way towards the hatch in the floor. Locke looks ateveryone.

Locke:

I want this to be a democracy where everyone is free to do what they want, so with thatsaid, who wants to go down?

No one raises their hand except for Rose, who is rather reluctant.

Locke:

Alright then. Rose, let's go... come on Richard.

Richard gives John a dirty look. They all proceed to look down the hole. John goes downfirst, then Rose follows... lastly Richard goes in. They make it to the bottom where Locke isalready out. He helps Rose down the ladder.

Locke:

There has to be some kind of light switch down here.

Rose:

Here, found it!

Rose flicks on the switch just as Richard gets down the ladder. They all look around. Rosehas a look of absolute horror on her face. She does the cross sign on her chest.

Rose:

Oh good Lord!

The room they are looking at is completely white. White walls, floor, ceiling, tables andchairs. The room is huge with about 50 tables that fit 6 chairs at each. The reason Rose ishorrified is because there are bodies everywhere. Dead old bodies much like those found inthe "Purge Ditch" but these ones are all wearing White Dharma Lab coats. The camera panson a few of the bodies which appear to have died trying to claw their way out at the walls.One of the bodies' coats is visible from the front and has a Logo on it. It is a #(number) sign. Locke looks at Richard.
