Volunteers Make Our Mission Possible People give of their time for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others in need. There is a long tradition of seeing this type of giving as a form of charity, based on altruism and selflessness. However, instead of considering your volunteer efforts as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, why not think of it as an experience? Family Services is lucky to have over 100 volunteers working in many different capacities throughout the agency each year. Our agency wouldn’t exist if not for the special experiences of these individuals. Classes for certified domestic violence and sexual assault counselors will begin in early September. We would like to share our monumental gratitude to all of you who have made contributions of time to Family Services. Thank you for all of the wonderful acts of kindness that have been bestowed on the families we have served so far this year. Without your compassion and caring, we would not be able to help families in crisis to find health, hope and healing each day. Festive Evening Raises Nearly $30,000 for Family ServicesFamily Services presented our Fifth Annual Guest Chef Series on Saturday, June

22, 2013. Over 170 guests were transported to the warm and rugged coastline of

Venezuela while experiencing the lush and beautifully landscaped grounds of the

Roseland Estate in Woodlake. Visitors were greeted by the smooth sounds of the

Lindsay High School Flamenco Guitar Club and treated to the colorful moves of the

Los Angeles Samba Dancers.

Venezuela-native Chef Irlanda Ramirez prepared a unique three course cooking

demonstration: oven sweet plantains with cachapas, ceviche, and pork chops in

orange and honey. These incredible recipes were paired with California Central

Coast wines, and beer tasting courtesy of the Boston Beer Company. A lovely

catered dinner and dessert were served by Chef David Vartanian of The Vintage

Press.

Family Services extends our sincerest thanks to our generous corporate and table

FSTC Spotlight on our Mission Makers• Kudos for KrystalKrystal Kennedy has been chosen as Family Services’ first ever Volunteer of the Year. Krystal began volunteering as a Rape Crisis Counselor in March of 2010. These volunteers work mostly after hours and on weekends responding to sexual assault forensic exams and taking hotline calls. Krystal continuously goes above and beyond, taking on extra shifts and assisting staff when more support is needed. Krystal averages over 90-hours a month volunteering and still manages to work a full-time job at Kaweah Delta Health Care District. She exudes compassion and collaborates well with our Sexual Assault Response Team partners. Thank you for all you do, Krystal!

• Rotary Rocks!Thank you to the Visalia Rotary Community Foundation for their very generous grant of $15,000 awarded on July 17th, 2013. Family Services will use the funds to maintain critical services provided to survivors of domestic violence that reside in our transitional housing projects.

• First Annual Sale a SuccessBravo to Family Services’ staff and volunteers who hosted the first ever Karen’s House Yard Sale Fundraiser on June 8th, 2013. Despite the heat, we had lots of folks come out and make their purchases. Many donors and volunteers contributed to the sale which raised $890 for the emergency shelter.
