The 47th IFToMM Executive Council Annual Meeting, was
held in Portugal in Guimarães (September 14in-15in, 2014).
It was hosted by Prof. Paulo Flores from Department of
Mechanical Engineering, Center for Mechanical and
Materials Technologies, School of Engineering - University
of Minho. Meeting was scheduled directly before EUCOMES
2014 - European Conference on Mechanism Science.
Group photos taken during EC meeting
The meeting was attended by 18 persons in that by 8
members of Executive Council. Current year of EC activities
had been marked by further improvements of the IFToMM
web page, this year we started the electronic submission of

the MO chair reports besides of introduced in previous year
electronic submission of TC/PC reports. The modified forms
for IFToMM affiliated journal report and for MO chair
report were introduced. Proposed during 2012 EC Annual
Meeting changes in TC’s/PC’s membership rules were
approved in an email voting by the chairs of Members
Organizations and are in effect. Final approval of revised
constitution waits on the vote of the coming General
Assembly. The new statements say that ,, Each Member
Organization can execute an equal and single vote by its
members of a Permanent Commission or a Technical
Committee at the meetings or the E-mail ballots. The simple
majority of votes of the members from a Member
Organization is the vote of the Member Organization. If there
is no simple majority, the vote is considered an abstention.
No proxy is allowed for.’’ It must be emphasized that
following the above change the existing membership limit for
maximum two persons from each Member Organization in
each TC/PC was deleted. Analyzing the reports submitted
by TC/PC chairs the Executive Council concluded that
some set of Technical Committees and Permanent
Commissions is very active, however still there are a few
which must be encouraged to be more vigorous. With the
great satisfaction it was noticed that newly nominated
TC/PC chairs are very motivated to plan and develop new
activities, several new Chairs attended the EC Annual
Meeting. Noticed in 2012 and 2013 trend with increase in
the amount of IFToMM patroned/sponsored conferences was
kept in 2014. The IFToMM awards are the tokens of
appreciation given to the persons with outstanding service
and contribution to the IFToMM development. In year 2014
dedicated service awards were given to Professor Aleksander
Golovin, Professor Carlos Lopez Cajun and to Professor Joe
Rooney, Professor Aleksander Golovin passed few months
before the award ceremony. Award was delivered to his
Family during the banquet of IFToMM RoManSy
Symposium in Moscov in June 2014. In the same event the
representatives of EC gave the award diploma to Professor
Joe Rooney. The EC Annual Meeting 2014 approved the
award of merit for Prof. Faydor F. Litvin.
The coming soon IFToMM World Congress in 2015 in
Taipei, Taiwan, will be a very important event to the
IFToMM research community. It is combined with IFToMM
General Assembly (GA) - we hope that all chairs of
Members Organizations will attend the Congress and GA
where, according to the IFToMM Consitution, the new
Executive Council will be elected.

REPORT OF ACTIVITY from November 14, 2013 to
November 14, 2014
1- DISCUSSION OF RECENT ACTIVITIES
CCToMM enjoyed a productive year since the last MO
Activity Short Report. There are four major items that will
be summarized in this report. First, CCToMM has been
incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Corporation in Canada
since 1993. New laws governing such corporations have
been enacted by Canadian Parliament requiring
modification of the corporation By-Laws. Details
regarding this will be described. Second, the Annual
General Meeting (AGM) of MO members was held in
Toronto, Canada on June 3, 2014. Details and outcomes of
the AGM will be discussed. Thirdly, the annual CCToMM
Symposum for Mechanisms, Machines, and Mechatronics
(M3) was held at the University of Toronto June 1-4, 2014.
Lastly, the 2015 CCToMM M3
is being planned, and will
be held at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada, May
28-29, 2015.
2- MEETINGS AND VISITS
The 2014 CCToMM AGM was held at the University of
Toronto on June 3, 2014. Twelve members were in
attendance, along with the Executive Council (EC).
Several significant issues were discussed.
John Hayes communicated with Jean Zu (Chair, 2014
CSME International Congress) and Christine Wu
(outgoing President, CSME) to request that the CCToMM
be granted exclusive rights on all papers submitted to the
Congress that are in the area of mechatronics. The
opinion expressed by the CSME is that, in light of the
memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the
CSME and the CCToMM regarding profit sharing, this
would unfairly bias conference participation in
CCToMM’s favour. The request was denied.
John Hayes contacted IFToMM to request that the 2015
CCToMM M3 Symposium be advertised as a forthcoming
IFToMM-sponsored conference. The request was made
with the support of Clément Gosselin (Member of the
IFToMM Technical Committee on Computational
Kinematics). Teresa Zielińska reported that IFToMM
approved the sponsorship request.
It was reported that a total of 8 papers initially presented at
the 2013 CCToMM M3 Symposium were recommended
and forwarded for publication in a special issue of the
Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical
Engineering. These papers have now been published in
Volume 38 (Issue 2) of the Transactions. John Hayes
mentioned a possible evolution of the administration of the
CSME Transactions and its potential impact on the
continued publication of special issues based on papers
presented at the CCToMM M3 Symposia. Regardless, the
Editor, Paul Zsombor-Murray, has already agreed to
publish a special issue based on papers presented at the
2015 CCToMM M3 Symposium.
Juan Carretero presented his report (see attached). It was
observed that the CCToMM finances are healthy and that
initiatives aimed at spending accumulated capital should
be considered for the future.
The CCToMM student representatives, Thomas
Friedlaender and Joshua Pickard, reported on their
outreach efforts to encourage the involvement in the
CCToMM of undergraduate and graduate students across
Canada. An updated CCToMM brochure was forwarded
to a distribution list of Canadian universities.
It was reported that student feedback that had been
received suggested difficulties in finding the appropriate
links for membership registration within the CCToMM’s
website. This issue has subsequently been fixed.
The student representatives also commented on issues
related to e-mail communication with the CCToMM in the
event that institutional e-mail service is not available (e.g.,
during labour disruptions). Suggested courses of action
were proposed to circumvent this issue in the future.
3- CONFERENCE EVENTS
The 2014 CCToMM M3 was held as a special symposium
at the 2014 Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering
(CSME) World Congress, June 1-4, 2014. Nine papers on
mechanism and machine theory were presented in three
sessions.

REPORT OF ACTIVITY from 1 November 2013 to 1
November 2014
1- DISCUSSION OF RECENT ACTIVITIES
In the year 2014, the Czech National Committee IFToMM
had one regular session during the conference
“Engineering Mechanics 2014” held in Svratka in May.
Main topics were some personal changes in the members
of this MO body and some new members’ nominations of
the Czech researchers to the Technical Committees (TC).
The problem is sometimes with a concrete realization of
the proposed exchanges in TC due to administrative
complications. A unified form, issued for example by the
Executive Council, would be helpful specifying what it is
really needed for the nomination of a person to be member
or observer in TC. We think that the full name, address
and email of the nominee should be enough and the others
to leave on responsibility of the National committee. In
addition, some suitable dates settled for this process could
be announced to MOs.
2- CONFERENCE EVENTS
Organized under the auspices of the Czech National
Committee IFToMM:
“Dynamics of Machines 2014” was held in Prague
from 4-5 February 2014 and organized by the
Institute of Thermomechanics, Academy of Sciences

(the conference is organized every year).
“Engineering Mechanics 2014” was held in Svratka
from 12-15 May 2014 and organized by Institute of
Thermomechanics, Academy of Sciences of the
Czech Republic, 200 participants/60 from abroad
presented 181 contributions from Biomechanics,
Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Fracture Mechanics,
History of Mechanics, Kinematics, Mechatronics,
Reliability, Mechanics of Solids and
Thermomechanics (the conference is organized
every year).
“Computational Mechanics 2014” organized by the
University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is held in
Spicak from 3-5 November 2014, 75 participants/10
from abroad (the conference is organized every year).

(Collaborative Cross and Carry mobile roBots) is to
design several mobile robots with a simple mechanical
architecture, called m-bots, that will be able to
autonomously co-manipulate and transport objects of
any shape by connecting together. The resulting poly-
robot system, called p-bot, will be able to solve the so-
called removal-man-task to transport any object on the
top platform of m-bots (dorsal transport). Reconfiguring
the p-bot by adjusting the number of m-bots allows to
manipulate heavy objects with any shape, particularly if
they are wider than a single m-bot. This particular
variant of the C3Bots project will be called C3Bots DGP
(Dorsal General Payload transport).

VENUE
The symposium was held at the Huatulco Campus of the
Universidad del Mar in Bahias de Huatulco, Oaxaca located
on the Pacific coast of Mexico. This university belongs to
Sistema de Universidades Estatales de Oaxaca (SUNEO) of
the Oaxaca state.
THE SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM
The symposium program consisted of 10 technical sessions as
well as a round table on “Perspectives of Mechatronics in
Mexico” chaired by Prof. Marco Ceccarelli. A total of 53
papers were accepted after the completion of a full review
process managed though Easychair system. Finally, at the
conference site 48 papers were presented according to the
scheduled technical sessions. All registered participants were
provided with a hardcover book containing symposium
proceedings, which were published into the volume 25 of
Mechanism and Machine Science (MMS) Book Series of
Springer. The Springer book series on MMS will give proper
worldwide visibility and long term availability of the
proceedings, as already experienced for other proceedings
volumes in the series. Royalties have been agreed to be given
to IFToMM.
AWARDS and IFToMM Young Delegate Program (YDP)
Traditionally MUSME symposium have recognized the
authors of the best paper award and the best student paper. In
this event, three categories were considered for best paper
awards, Research, Applications and Student category. A
committee was established to choose three rank winners for
each category, with Marco Ceccarelli-Chair of International
Scientific Committee (ISC), Eusebio Hernandez-Chair of
MUSME 2014, and Joao Carvalho-member of ISC. They
considered carefully the accepted papers by taking into
account also the review outputs. In the research category were
selected Francisco Bejarano and Jorge Davila for “Output
Stabilization of Linear Systems with Disturbances”, Jorge
Ambrosio et al. for “Cylindrical Contact Force Models for the
Dynamics of Roller Chain Drives” and Esteban Chavez et al.,
for “Concurrent Structure-Control Design of Parallel Robots
using an Estimation of Distribution Algorithms”, following
the rank order, gold, silver and bronze, respectively. In the
applications area were recognized J. Cazalilla et al., for
“Implementation of force and position controllers for a 3DOF
parallel manipulator”, Jony Eckert et al., for “Gear Shifting
Strategies Co-simulations to Optimize Vehicle Performance
and Fuel Consumption”, and J. Carvalho and T. Silvestre for
“Motion Analysis of a Six-Legged Robot Using the Bennett’s
Linkage as Leg”. Finally, in the students category were
selected Carlos Duchanoy et al., for “Nonlinear Full-car
Model for Optimal Dynamic Design of an Automotive
Damper”, Giuseppe Canella et al., for “Adaptive Low Cost
Gravity Balanced Orthosis” and U. Kuenzer and M. Husty for
“Joint Trajectory Optimization Using All Solutions of Inverse
Kinematics of General 6-R Robots”. This selection will be
also used for the traditional special issue in the International
Journal Mechanics Based Design of Machines and Structures
with the two chairs as guest editors for handling a second
review process.
Ten YDP requests were received with proper full documents.
After a carefully evaluation by the two Co-Chairs, four grants
were given to students by sharing the amount of 1,000 USD
of the scheduled YDP support.
Finally, an IFToMM Honuor was given to Prof. Carlos Lopez
Cajun by past IFToMM President according to previous
decisions by Executive Council.
