The Laurier English & Academic Foundation (LEAF) Program

Here are some of the key features of the program:

Conditional Offer The Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) Program will allow academically qualified students who do not meet Laurier’s English proficiency requirements the opportunity to receive a conditional offer of admission pending completion of the 5-level program. That means no TOEFL or IELTS scores are required.

10-week Cycles The program schedule allows for five 10-week cycles throughout the calendar year. This allows flexibility in terms of entry points for the students. Students can enter the program at any of the five points—September 6, November 15, January 31, April 11, and June 20 for 2010-2011. Each week, students will receive 25 hours of classroom instruction.

5 Levels Upon arrival, students will be given a placement test to determine which of the five levels is best suited for them. Students who successfully complete a level will progress to the next level; those who successfully complete level 5 will have met Laurier’s English proficiency requirements.

Academic English Our courses will focus on academic English. They are designed to prepare students for success in university. Essay writing, listening to lectures, reading large academic texts, and learning the vocabulary most common in university settings will be key features of the curriculum.

Small Class Sizes Class sizes will be limited to 15 students. Class sizes of 8-10 students will be common.

Location Initially, the LEAF Program will be offered exclusively at our Brantford campus. This campus is integrated into the downtown core giving students more opportunities to interact with native English speakers thereby accelerating their language learning.

Qualified Instructors LEAF Instructors are experienced ESL instructors with a wealth of experience in both Canada and abroad.

Competitive Tuition At $3,500 per 10-week cycle, the LEAF Program is competitively priced. [Note: Some additional fees apply.] The small class sizes, 25 hours per week of in-class training, and fantastic location only add to the value.

University 102 University preparatory courses are designed to assist students in making the transition between secondary and university education. When students develop academic skills needed for university course work, they have a greater chance of succeeding.
