Keeping it LocaLTimber is the main material we work with so it is vital that we source the best quality timbers, with the least environmental impact. That’s why we keep it local. Our FSC Registered sawmill is only 1 mile away from our workshop, and the timbers produced there all come from within 20 miles. Using high quality local timber is better for the environment, better for our local economy and significantly better for your products.

While we whole-heartedly believe in giving our customers what they want, we like to think we can give you something better. With that in mind we are making locally sourced larch the standard timber for all our planters. Larch is widely regarded as the best performing

timber for ground contact. It has anti fungal properties which give it an exceptional resistance to rot without adding any chemicals or preservatives. Our larch is sourced from local FSC registered woodlands and is felled in a sustainable fashion. It is then air dried at our FSC Registered sawmill (1 mile from the workshop) before being delivered to us to turn into planters. This means larch has a tiny carbon footprint, far smaller than any of our competitors.

Larch is an exceptional timber for ground contact; it will outlast tanalised pine, however we recognise the popularity of tanalised timber. A lot of our customers prefer tanalised timber because it is more affordable and is so abundant in the UK market. So while we do recommend using larch for your planters, tanalised timber is a well recognised substitute.

The National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners estimate that a 250sq m plot would save the typical family £1,362 a year, so growing your own will save you money. Most of us don’t have access to that much space, but two of our veggie planters would easily provide enough produce for 2 or 3 family meals a

Fat Leaf’s Planter Benches are our most popular benches. The standard bench, pictured, comes as a two or three seater. It is shipped from our workshop ready made with an extremely sturdy seat, (integral to the design not stuck on as an after thought), bookended by two raised planters. You can modify this product too - add a back, add table tops or change the seat to herringbone.

The L shaped bench is possibly Fat Leaf’s most transformative product. It can make a massive difference to an underused corner; turning it into a tranquil spot to lie back, read a book or enjoy a gin and tonic! Many of our customers identify a corner of their garden or patio which needs a “lift”. Here it is.

This is our only product delivered semi built. Bolting together the two units will take only 10 minutes.

Fat Leaf’s Lovers Bench was first built as a made to measure product but due to popular demand we now make it as an off-the-shelf item. The Lovers Bench features two planters, a back and a central table with a hinged lid, perfect for the gardening gloves and trowels (or a bottle of wine).

A lot of gardeners enjoy a snooze in the afternoon and that was our inspiration for the Sofa Bed. It is a continuous wrap around raised bed with a central seat which can be used for sitting or snoozing. Some outdoor cushions would look very opulent on this piece.

The wrap around bench used to be sold as a set with a hexagonal table, but it has become quite popular in its own right. These sturdy benches also work very well in groups of 3, clustered around a tree.

The Newton was named because as we were installing one underneath an old apple tree, an apple landed on Ross’s head. He didn’t have a world changing epiphany, but we liked the name.

The Sapling Seat is a beautiful feature for a garden or public space. One large raised hexagonal planter forms the central piece of this bench, with a deep, continuous seat enclosing the planter. It was designed for planting specimen trees or fast growing grasses and ferns.

In designing The Horseshoe, we were hoping to capture feelings of both enclosure and openness at once. If you sit facing in the Horse shoe you feel comfortably enclosed yet if you face out you feel open and unrestrained. These seats are particularly suited to public spaces as they have lots of seating room!

These picnic tables are based on a traditional A-frame design, with Fat Leaf’s inimitable style stamped all over it, double thickness table tops and seats give this piece a very chunky feel. These are delivered part assembled, with all fixings included.

There is no picnic table on the market as robust as this piece of furniture! It doesn’t need to be bolted to the ground to stop it being stolen or upturned; it’s far to heavy for that. This was designed as a permanent piece for pubs, cafes, or schools; you won’t easily move it around, so if you go for the Gorilla, make sure you aren’t planning on shuffling the furniture around regularly.

Fat Leaf make a range of specialist tables to order, such as the hexagonal picnic table. These beauties come in three sizes - 6 seater, 12 seater & 18 seater. Unfortunately, these items are too big to post and as such are only available as an installation.

Fat Leaf produce a range of storage benches, planter seating arrangements, and even ponds with integrated seating. These are made to measure to customers requirements but both Jim and Ross, Fat Leaf directors, love talking to customers and helping them design the perfect solution for their needs.

We took our inspiration for these wonderful benches from public realm furniture which we saw in New Zealand. Produced in wonderfully tactile Macrocarpa, these benches are perfect for that special contemplative place, as a garden feature, or even as part of one of our dining sets.

Produced in response to customer demand, these lovely coffee tables are designed to complement our slab benches. Again produced in massive sections of macracarpa these tables make a real statement and are worthy of virtually any space.

Macrocarpa is a superb timber to use for outdoor furniture - it is very eco friendly as most of the timber is wind blown, it has an exceptionally unique grain structure making each piece unique and it is extremely durable in all weathers. We do produce this furniture in our other timbers (Cedar - same price, Oak & Chestnut 50% more and Tanalised Pine 10% less) however macrocarpa is our strong recommendation for these pieces.

Huge Cedar blocks are used to support this bench. The seat and back are constructed of comparatively slender sections of oak planks and finished with the trademark industrial steel bolts.

Huge sections of Cedar provide the pillars for a huge Oak sleeper, solidly fixed together with industrial scale studs and stainless steel bolts. The natural texture of the wood contrasts enormously with massive bolts to create an interesting juxtaposition and a wonderful bench for a garden, public space or memorial.

Fat Leaf have a localised landscaping service, but if we are excited by your project we will happily travel across the UK to discuss it. Our Garden Rooms are an ideal way to extend your house without planning permission and they look incredible and add far more value to your property than it costs to build. Our decking has become very

popular in 2012, moreso since we started offering a wide range of timbers.

We also construct gazebos, pergolas, bollards, bespoke furniture, sleeper retaining walls and staircases and kids play areas. Because we build as well as design you wont find any hidden costs in our price and any issues that arise during the build are easily

overcome without huge costs.

JiM gUYJim has worked in the public sector for most of his working life (dreaming up ideas for window boxes), before retiring to set up Fat Leaf. He now spends lots of time in a big shed playing with big tools making Fat Leaf

products. He’s never been happier.

Ross travelled extensively after university before embarking on a career in advertising. This career was cut short by an untimely recession; but necessity breeds innovation and he joined Jim to set up Fat Leaf and

hasn’t looked back.

Guy is the owner of Eype Down Sawmill; he is our local timber (and home brewed cider) supplier. Without Guy’s high quality timbers we wouldn’t be able to produce the quality

of products that we do.
