GE Lean iSetup Project
“GE reduced the overall cycle time of
setting up a new instance by about 87%
and cut 80% of the time required to
compare instance setups with iSetup.
The iSetup toolset increased
productivity for the entire project team”.

• Power Services – Supports Industrial Turbine Power
Plants around the world
• Has offices located in approximately 102 countries
• Offices are typically Field Services Support Offices
• Implementing Oracle 11.5.10 in all offices globally
• Rolling out in several countries at each release
including GL, AR, AP, PA, FS/CRM, FA, PO, INV
• Each release may contain a new SOB (set of books)
and several operating units

BackgroundImplementation Steps
33 /
GE /
September 30, 2008
• Next Steps
• Segregate setups in three categories, Global, Master & Local (Operating
Unit/organization-specific).
• Analyze Benefits
• Develop a future Process to allow setups to be done in advance of
releases
• Refine the setup/instance change management process
• Evaluate the capability of the iSetup toolset by migrating setups for
existing ERP countries….determine the baseline time.
• Build a migration process based on Selection sets and other tools (for
modules not supported by iSetup.
• Develop consolidated BR-100 (setup documents) for each module for all
countries
BackgroundStrategy
34 /
GE /
September 30, 2008
GE Best PracticeSetup Management for Single Instance Rollouts
• Identify each modules “master” setups – once set>>never changed
• Identify each modules “global” setups – Set for the entire instance one time
• Identify each modules “Local OU” setups – required for each new OU
• Identify each Inv Org Setups – required for each new Inv Org
• Identify the flexibility of the setup and dependencies – can the set be
changed or not, are their successor setup dependencies?
• Identify the critical path timing for the setup to be 100% correct
• Identify the impact/risk of changing the setup during the test/release cycle
