Week 1 – 1st May 2019 Sharing Our News

Welcome back to Term 2. We trust you all had a wonderful Easter

break and your child is ready for an amazing term ahead.

Congratulations to our leaders who were superb in representing our

school at our local Singleton ANZAC Day service at Burdekin Park in

the holidays. It was great to see such a nice turn out of King Street

Public School students representing themselves, their families and

the school on the day. A huge thanks to our families and teachers

who took the time to support such an important day in Australia's

history.

Today, our school participated in our own ANZAC Day service in the

school hall. We were privileged to hear one of our ex-student leaders

Able Seaman Libby Pearce speak to our school about what ANZAC

means and the sacrifice many men and women went through so that

we can live in such a great country today. Able Seaman Libby

Pearce also visited the Kindergarten rooms for a Q&A session which

our students were very excited about.

Our Year 6 students took part in a Transition to High School day and

had the opportunity to meet with our new Education Minister The

Honourable Sarah Mitchell. Our students got a small taste of what

high school will be like and attended classes and visited various

areas throughout the school. We hope you all enjoyed your

experience!

Good luck to our Rugby League team who are heading off to

Waratah tomorrow to compete in the Knights Knockout competition.

A huge thanks to Mr Morrison for coaching the team and we look

forward to hearing about the day.

We would also like to wish all of our students who will be performing

as part of the KAOS evening next Wednesday night at Singleton

High School all the very best as they entertain the whole Singleton

Learning Community. The evening showcases the amazing talent of

our students and provides exposure for the different cultural

programs that are offered within our public schools.

Our monthly P&C Meeting will be held on Monday 6th May in the

school library from 6pm. It would be great to see many new faces

come and join our dynamic group of parents who support and create

wonderful opportunities for our students.

King Street is an Allergy Aware School

This is a reminder for all families that some of our

students have serious reactions to products

containing nuts and fish.

We ask that you please do not send foods or

containers to school that contain nut or fish

products.

This includes nutella and peanut butter spread.

Wellbeing of Students Valued

Please be aware that we have two immune-

suppressed students at our school.

If your child develops a contagious disease, please

let the school know ASAP so we can act

accordingly.

Showing Positive Behaviour for Learning

Do you need to Renew your Working With

Children Check?

In 2013, the NSW Government introduced the

Working With Children Check initiative to help keep

our children safe. As these checks are valid for 5

years, many Checks either have expired or are

about to do so.

We are asking all parents/carers that have a

Working With Children Check to please check it's

expiry date and renew if needed. Please pass this

information on to our school office.

Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.

Student Invoices

Towards the end of last term, we issued Student

Invoices out to all families. These invoices will show

fees payable such as the Voluntary School

Contribution ($40 per child) and payments owing for

the Stage 3 Excursion (STAGE 3 PLEASE NOTE -

The deposit of $50 is the only payment required at

this time).

The Voluntary Contribution helps us to provide

valuable resources for our students including

stationery, books etc.

If you have any questions regarding Student

Invoices, please do not hesitate to contact me via

the school office.

We thank you for your attention to these payments.

ANZAC March

It was fantastic to see so many of our students

marching along with the Singleton community to

commemorate ANZAC Day 2019.

Thank you for using your KSPS values during the

service.

KSPS ANZAC School Service

Abel Seaman Libby Pearce who is a former student

and school leader of KSPS joined us for our service

today. She addressed the assembly on the history of

the Navy snd the role she currently performs.

Libby is the daughter of SLSO Mrs Baily and sister

to Erin and Claire. It was wonderful to welcome 4

generations of Libby’s family to our service.

Thank you to all the families who attended our

service.

Lest we Forget.

Horse Sports

Parents who are interested in their children doing

Horse Sports please contact the office this week.

Students will need their own horse, equipment

and transport to participate.

Information packs will be made available to parents

from our front office.

Have You Packed a School Jumper?

As the cold weather approaches, we ask all

parents/carers to please check with their children

each day that they have packed a school jumper.

We have a supply at the office for those that forget

and are happy to lend these out for the day,

however, we have an increasing number that are not

being returned. If your child accidently brings home

a jumper that belongs in the office, we ask that you

return it the next day so our supply does not

disappear.

A reminder also that students not wearing an

appropriate school coloured jumper will be asked to

remove it and exchange it for one from the office. It

is very important that students show they are

PROUD of their school by wearing their school

uniform. Brand new school jumpers are available in

the uniform shop for $30, they also have a supply of

second hand jumpers that can be purchased for $2.

Finally, please ensure that all jumpers are

labelled. Each year we wash jumpers worth

hundreds of dollars from lost property that have no

name in them. If clothing is labelled and found, we

are easily able to return it to its rightful owner.

Thank you for your support.

Canteen

Our school canteen will be closed for recess on next

Monday 6th May due to personal reasons.

It will be open at lunch as usual.

Thank you for understanding.

UNIVERSITY OF NSW 2019

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)

Each year King Street Public School offers our students the opportunity to participate in the UNSW

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).

Students from Year 3-6 have the opportunity to enter Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee,

English and Mathematics. This year all assessments will be conducted online.

Regardless of students’ results, they have a wonderful opportunity to experience and master the skills of

external testing. Sometimes students can have the knowledge but not the confidence when they are put

into this sort of environment. As there is more external testing happening right across our educational

system, it makes sense to offer them this opportunity if we can.

All students receive a certificate and an individual report.

Please return the attached form for each child to the school office with payment.
