Our Children Inspire Giving!By Anna Lisa Stanley, Director of Childrens Ministry

    Worship @ 7pm

Ms. AnnaLisa, I madethis for you!she said asshe ran acrossthe sanctuaryto give me abrightly-coloredbunch of pipe

cleaners that she had neatly twisted into abouquet of flowers. Children love to givegifts - sometimes in one form or anotherthat we, as adults, have dismissedas being too small an act of giving; acarefully drawn picture, the perfectdandelion, a hug, or the gift of their time.

This Sunday during the 11:00 a.m.

service, the children invite you to worshipalong side them as they lead worship

and teach us about the gift of giving ofoneself. You will hear the story of TheGiving Tree, by Shel Silverstein as toldby our younger children, hear from ayoung girl who found a way to give backto her community using her own gifts andtalents, and appreciate the gift of song.

You may also be challenged!Challenged to give! Can you give ofyourself, to someone different, everyday for 29 days? A phone call, a smile,a cherry limeade, tying someone elsesshoes, a story, a note, a car ride - thesky is the limit! Jesus said, Give awayyour life; youll find it given back, but not

merely given back-given back with bonus

and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the

way. Generosity begets generosity.(Luke 6:38, The Message translation)

How precious a gift that our children wbe demonstrating this for us. Will you accept the challenge?

Next Wednesday, April 25 our studentswill conclude their To Save A Life studywith an Agape Feast and CommunityWorship. This study began in responseto the 3 teen suicides which occurred inJanuary here in Edmond. It has been apowerful opportunity for our students togrow in faith, experience the presence ofGod, and find true community in church. Our Elders have covered our sessionsand students in prayer. They have sharedhurts, struggles, fears, disappointments, along with joys!

Our students will be inviting other students from their schools to join us nextWednesday night for dinner. It is our hope to fill the Family Life Center with studentsand help them Feel the Love of their community. After the dinner, we will gatherin the Sanctuary for a Community Worship, and we are inviting everyone to join thisworship experience. Our worship leaders for the evening will be Christian recordingartists Shane and Shane. You are encouraged to check them out their website at:www.shaneandshane.com

If you know of a student in 6-12 grade, please encourage them to attend ourAgape Feast on the 25th at 6:00 p.m. And then, please come - ALL OF YOU - to the

worship at 7:00 p.m. in our Sanctuary. It is going to be a powerful evening!

Thank you for sharing your childrenwith us!

So whats this 29 Gifts 29 Days thing all about? In 2 Corinthians 8:7,Paul told us Just as you excel in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge,in complete earnestness and in your love for us see that you also excel in thisgrace of giving. The idea behind our 29 day experience is to grow in the grace ofgiving, to become an even more generous people. Just give something of yourselfto another for 29 days.

Is there a list of things I am supposed to give? No. You can give anything,to anyone, at any time. Its not about finding the perfect gift or material thingsfor that matter. Its about practicing the discipline of giving with both intention andawareness of the impact on yourself and others. Begin each day with a simpleprayer for God to keep you open to the opportunities to give that come your way. Then share when the Spirit moves! You could make a phone call to an old friend,

buy a cup of coffee for someone, offer to babysit, donate old clothes, give a hug, share a smile, or write a letter. Need more ideas? Weve assembled a list of 29suggestions online at http://www.give29.org/inspiration but dont stop there. Let thelist spark your creativity!

Im on a really tight budget, some of these ideas cost money I just dont

    have right now.

Give something FREE! Yes free. Here are 6 simple suggestions that cost nothing.1) The Gift of Affection - Share a hug, kiss, pat on the back or hold hands.

These small actions can demonstrate love for friends and family.2) The Gift of a HAND Written Note - Keep it simple or make it long

and thoughtful. Either way, receiving a handwritten note in todays fast paced, technology filled world can light up a day like nothing else.

    3) The Gift of Favor - Go out of your way to do something kind for someone.Hold a door. Put your neighbors newspaper on their doorstep. Help your teacherbefore or after class.

    4) The Gift of a Compliment - Offered with sincerity, a simple Your talentsamaze me! That was delicious! or You look fantastic! can make someonesday. You could even note the name of a helpful employee in a store & call or writethe manager with a compliment.

    5) The Gift of Listening - Pay attention, focus on what the person is saying, dont pre-plan a response in your head and dont interrupt. Make eye contact if inperson. We all need to be heard. Perhaps you can listen to a co-worker having abad day, or call a relative or church member who lives alone.

    6) The Gift of a Donation - Go through your bookshelves or stacks ofmagazines and find some you can pass along to a school, daycare or hospital.

Clean out your closet and take some that are still in good shape to the HOPECenter thrift shop or EARC thrift shop.

These free gift suggestions were inspired by a post found on the website29gifts.orgset up by Cami Moore, the author of the book 29 Gifts: How a Month ofGiving Can Change Your Life, which inspired our sermon series.

That website gave us the idea to set up our own site to document the FirstChristian Church 29 days of giving experience! Visit http://www.give29.orgfrequently for suggestions, to read daily blog posts, and see videos.

Then share the impact of your giving experience with us! Comment on our blogposts, use the integrated Facebook comment box, and share videos, photos andyour written stories at http://www.give29.org/share

Together lets inspire generosity one gift at time! Join us April 22 through May20 and give a littlechange a life.
