As a youngchild, Iremembertelling my aunt

I wish I wasa grown up.She told meto enjoy being

a child because when you become agrown up you had to pay bills and makeall kinds of hard decisions. I haveremembered that my entire life. Iunderstood what she was saying once Ihad to make all those decisions. It canbe very overwhelming.

As an adult, one day while runningmy mom taxi, I made a remark about

the flowers and wondered what madethem so beautiful. My daughter, Jenna, just matter of factly said Mom, Godmade them that way. Wow, to be likea little child.

A friend told me one time that shedidnt know what to tell her child when

they had lost a loved one. When shefinally got the courage and told them, their response was Mom, dont worry,I will see them again in heaven. It just

makes you stop and wonderto be likea little child.

When attending training forChildren Worship and Wonder, thestory of Jesus and the Children was told. While watching the story and readingthe verse in the Gospel of Luke, Irealized even though we are all childrenof God, what does it mean to be like alittle child. He tells us that to get intoheaven, we must receive Him like a littlechild. I wonderdo you rememberwhat it is to be like a little child?

As we come to worship this Sunday,on Childrens Sunday, leave yourgrown up self at home. Come like alittle child to worship God with totaldependence, full trust, frank openness, and complete sincerity.

Disciples Retirement Community of OKDRCO Prepares to Launch the Care Partners Ministry ProgramIn the 1950s a group of individuals formed a ministry to raise funds and build the Oklahoma

Christian Retirement Community (OCRC) or the Oklahoma Christian Home as it was commo

known. This ministry provided care to retired individuals who had faithfully served the church

Edmond First Christian continues to support this ministry as a number of our members are

long-time residents. Today there are over 30 individuals residing in Bradford Village, Edmond

former OCRC, who may need future financial assistance. The Disciples Retirement Communi

of Oklahoma (DRCO), formed in 2005, is working to provide future benevolent needs. The DRCO board envisions a healthcare ministry that would embrace caring for Disciple

Donations and grants are needed to fund this ministry as plans develop to model it after two b

practices programs: Caregiver-to-Caregiver Network by Southern Caregiver Resource Cent

San Diego, CA, and Caregiving Team by Interfaith CarePartners in Houston, TX.

The Care Partners Ministry is a collaborative ministry serving Oklahomas elderly, extrem

ill, physically/mentally challenged and their caregivers. This ministry helps seniors maintain

their independence and helps caregivers focus on the importance of self-care. Teams of traine

volunteers help the individual or caregiver access community resources, provide services, assi

self-care, and are a listening ear. Volunteers respond uniquely to the Care Partners needs, wh

relying on the power and support of the overall team. Volunteers are being sought from DOC

    congregations across OK.

This is an exciting time for the DRCO and the Christian Church in Oklahoma. Please

prayerfully consider financially supporting this new ministry. For those already contributing, th

DRCO expresses gratitude. For more information and updates, contact Rev. Devon McAnally
