BackgroundWhat can shared services organisations learn from manufacturing? Many manufacturing teams revolutionised their processes both through the use of technology and continuous improvement (CI) methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma.
The Bridgestone de Costa Rica team leveraged not only some of their talent from the manufacturing part of their business but also the Shingo Model™ which compliments Lean Six Sigma with an enhanced focus on culture. Their objective was to make continuous improvement more than a training class and they adopted the Shingo Model™ to deliver sustained improvements.
Background
The Shingo Model™ is not just another initiative or training program; it is a new way of thinking and has already resulted in new levels of success for Bridgestone’s stakeholders.
The following are a few highlights from Rodrigo and Kenneth’s insights and our group exchange.
1Collection of tools
that are highly integrated to accomplish an outcome
2Best system or tools are not
effective without being embedded into culture and
behaviour
3Focused on long term results and infusing
Operational Excellence into the culture
4Rules of the Road used to integrate
Bridgestone Americas desired behaviours to their
CI approach
5Be selective and strategic
with who participates in CI workshops – the participants can be powerful ambassadors
and it’s beneficial to target team members who are viewed as
having a voice in the company
6Showcased the Top 4
highest rated managers and supervisors based on employee feedback to have them share the behaviours
they demonstrate (what and how) to support the culture
7Find the model that works for your organisation with the goal of adding value for the company and creating a better experience for your
customers
