I conducted a survey using website survey monkey to find out the needs of my target audience. By asking the questions that I did it allowed me to find out what my target audience likes in music videos and what they don’t like. By using this

information I can adjust my video to best suit the needs of the audience and therefore make it appeal to them more.

Question 1 I asked this question to find out the gender of my participants. Whilst it may not influence the video directly it does when used with other questions show me what the different genres like best, it shows me what things each gender likes in a music video.

• This question helps me to determine the primary target audience for my music video. This tells me that the character in my music video should be of this age group in order to allow members of this age group to better indentify with my video.

Question 3 This question shows what genres of music that my target audience likes best. The most popular choice of genre was rock, this is the genre of the song that i have chosen for my music video showing that I am already catering to the needs of my audience.

This question shows me that the majority of all my

participants watch music videos on YouTube. This tells

me that I should put my music video on YouTube if I wanted

to successfully stream and advertise it.

Question 4

This question shows me that the majority of my audience prefer narrative style music

videos. This will influence my own product as I will include a narrative that will run throughout

the video to cater to my audience’s needs.

Question 5

Question 6 shows me that all but 1 person think that music videos increase sales of singles. If I were going to sell my

song I would then put the video I am creating up onto YouTube to increase it’s

future sales.

Question 6

Question 7 shows me that themes people like best in

music videos. The answers vary with the

majority voting for either love or violence and

overcoming struggles, because of this have

adapted the story of my music video to show a

man who is overcoming struggles in his life.

Question 7

This question shows me that not a lot of people like story being told before, after or in the middle of a song and they would rather the song play all the way through the video. Because of this I will have no narrative before or after the song and will instead fit the narrative in with the lyrics

whilst the song is playing.

Question 8

This question does not really have an affect on my overall product. What it does tell me

is that all people that took my survey do watch music videos and the majority watch

them quite often or once a week.

Question 9

Question 10 has helped me to decide what type of music video to make. By looking at existing

videos and seeing which people like best because of the elements

they contain I am now able to adapt my video to suit my targets needs. The most popular choice

was ‘rather be’ by Clean Bandit, a narrative video that follows the

life of a young japanese chef, because this is the most popular, I adopted a similar narrative in my

video by following the life of a young drug abuser.
