Greetings,
As�duly�elected�Mayor�of�the�Town�of
Vulcan,���I�wish�you�warm�greetings�and
welcome� to� our� magnificent� little
Town.�Located�almost�equally�distant�between�the�cities�of�Calgary�and�Lethbridge,�Vulcan�offers�all�the�amenities
of�comfortable�living,�yet�presents�the�peace�and�serenity�of�country�living.�
Surrounded�by�miles�of�thriving�farmland�and�ranch�lands,�Vulcan�is�the�hub�of�an�active�community�within�the
County.�Once�home�for�some�of�the�major�grain�operations�and�elevators�for�the�area,�Vulcan�today�is�the�largest
community�in�the�county,�rich�in�history�and�lifestyle.
Currently�with�a�population�of�just�under�two�thousand�residents,�Vulcan�still�continues�to�offer�most�of�the
recreational�programs�the�large�centres�offer,�including�an�eighteen-hole�golf�course,�ball�diamonds,�walking
paths,�and�an�exercise�centre.�Our�business�centre�also�offers�many�amenities,�such�as�ladies’�wear,�computer
shops,�meat�market,�a�large�and�modern�grocery�store,�jewellery�store,�gift�shop,�bakery,�pharmacy,�candy�store,
motels�and�hotels,�and�several�restaurants.
A�twenty-four�hour�emergency�service�is�incorporated�into�our�hospital�and�is�home�for�our�doctor’s�offices�and
day�clinics.�Many�churches�are�in�the�area,�hosting�many�denominations.��There�is�also�a�very�active�library�and
seniors�centre.�Other�organizations�--�such�as�the�Kinsmen,�Lions,�and�Masonic�Order�--�support�all�kinds�of
programs�and�projects�in�the�community�when�needed.
As�a�major�contributor�in�World�War�II,�Vulcan�was�one�of�the�foremost�areas�for�which�pilots�received�their
training�prior�to�being�transferred�overseas.�Today,�Vulcan�still�honors�these�servicemen�and�women�with
monuments�depicting�our�memory�to�them.�Along�with�this,�Vulcan�has�a�very�active�Legion�Hall,�which�benefits
our�veterans�and�is�used�for�other�occasions,�such�as�gatherings�and�town�hall�meetings.
Vulcan�is�a�great�place�to�live�and�thrive,�where�your�neighbors�soon�become�your�friends.�Vulcan�is�a�great
community,�where�the�lifestyle�slows�down�and�the�fresh�air�will�make�you�feel�relaxed�and�rested.

As�the�town�of�Vulcan�moves�into�its’�100th�anniversary,�I�would�like�to�take
this�opportunity�on�congratulating�the�staff,�the�residents,�and�the�business
community�on�continuing�to�support�the�Town�as�it�enters�the�next�century.
The�Town�of�Vulcan�has�had�many�transitions�over�its�life�time�but�through�it
all�it�still�remains�strong�and�a�symbol�of�unity�as�it�goes�through�rural�changes
and�financial�strategies�in�Alberta.�The�Town�of�Vulcan�through�its�Chamber�of
Commerce,�active�town�Council,�and�passionate�business�community�is�about
to�commence�on�new�changes�to�the�Town’s�infrastructure�and�development
through�the�town’s�Branding�Action�Plan�and�council�approved�fiscal�changes.
The�Town�of�Vulcan�wants�to�continue�to�work�together�to�move�forward�and
provide�the�best�in�residential,�business,�and�lifestyle�that�no�other�municipality
can�offer.
The�Administration�of�the�town�of�Vulcan�is�a�vital�support�to�the�community
and�with�it�offers�support�to�all�of�its�areas�such�as�tourism,�industrial�and
commercial�business,�and�residential�opportunities.
The�administration�of�the�town�of�Vulcan�takes�pride�in�its�understanding�of
the�issues�that�arise�and�the�sustainability�it�maintains�in�ensuring�that�all�within
the�town�of�Vulcan�are�confident�that�the�town�will�move�forward.

Both�economically�and�substantially,�the�Town
of�Vulcan�Development�provides�a�gateway�to
many�new�businesses�wanting�to�set�foot�onto
the� corporate� stage.� Set� between� the� CPR
tracks�and�Highway�23,�the�Industrial�Park�has
a� grand� setting� to� provide� a� surplus� of
commodities� for� the� town� and� surrounding
area.
With�this�comes�a�commercial�sector�that�is
both�viable�to�the�small�and�mid-size�business
structure.� Located� between� Lethbridge� and
Calgary�the�town�of�Vulcan�can�be�an�entrance
to� business� opportunities� affordable� to� the
professional�entrepreneur.
The�Town�of�Vulcan�wants�to�set�a�benchmark
as�the�hub�of�development�for�the�County�and
area.�With�its�branding�plan�in�place,�the�town
is�able�to�move�forward�with�new�ideas�and
initiatives�to�move�the�Town�into�not�only�an
economic�secure�foundation,�but�to�be�the�best
technologically-advanced�Town�in�Canada.
The� inspiration� and� desire� to� obtain� this
development�through�colleges�and�government
support� opens� a� broad� new� area� to� bring
Vulcan� into� new� innovative� ways� that� will
provide� the� business� community� a� more
efficient�and�quality�resource�to�work�from.
As�municipalities�expand�and�space�becomes
less�available,�Vulcan�is�continuing�to�create
viable� market� growth� in� both� sectors.
Businesses� have� the� freedom� of� continuing
growth,� with� little� interference� both
administratively�and�tangibly.
With� a� strong� Chamber� of� Commerce,� the
Vulcan�Business�Development�Society�(VBDS),
and�the�Vulcan�Brand�Innovation�Team�(VBIT),
business� within� the� community� can� find
support�and�programs�which�can�help�get�them
started� and� achieve� success� through
opportunities.
Residential�development�is�also�a�major�player
within�the�boundaries�of�the�town.�Currently,
a� large� subdivision� is� underway� and� is
surrounded�by�the�Town’s�magnificent�18-hole
golf�course.�Within�the�town,�quaint�historic
homes�on�large�lots�provide�space,�peace�and
tranquility.
The�Town’s�infrastructure�department�takes
pride� in� preserving� our� vegetation,� in
particularly� the� large� tree� program� and
grooming.�The�Town�continues�to�provide�good
infrastructure�to�support�and�maintain�Town
activity.
Communities�in�Bloom�is�an�organization�that
takes�extreme�pride�in�sustaining�the�Town’s
floral�program,�and�keeping�the�downtown�core
beautiful�during�the�growing�season.

Vulcan – A DevelopmentGateway to the World
On�behalf�of�the�Town�of�Vulcan,�I�would�like�to�extend�greetings�to�all�pilots
who�are�new�to�our�airport�and�to�those�who�have�flown�here�before.��Welcome!
The�Vulcan�airport�is�a�wonderful�little�airport�that�was�established�in�the�early
1980’s.
The�airport�itself�has�a�lot�to�offer,�with�a�2950’�paved�runway�(16/34),�a�2100’
grass�runway�(05/23),�large�lots�with�taxiway�access,�a�terminal,�and�a�great
open�concept,�whether�you�are�flying�in�for�the�day�or�possibly�considering�the
Vulcan�airport�as�the�new�home�for�your�aircraft.
The�airport�lot�sites�are�available�to�anyone�who�owns�an�aircraft�and�can�be
leased�for�a�dollar�($1.00)�per�year!�Once�you�have�purchased�your�desired�lot,
you�can�design�and�construct�your�building�to�suit�your�requirements.�The�airport
is�also�very�close�to�town,�and�has�easy�access�to�all�amenities.
With�an�18-hole�scenic�golf�course�close�by,�the�Vulcan�airport�flying�club�hosts
regular�activities�such�as�the�famous�fly-in�breakfasts,�training�days�for�the
cadets,�and�club�gatherings.�The�airport�is�also�very�close�to�residential�lots
with�homes�for�sale�for�all�types�of�families.�A�curling�rink,�baseball�diamonds,
rodeo�grounds,�and�a�great�small�town�quiet�atmosphere�make�the�Town�of
Vulcan�so�very�special.
The�Town�of�Vulcan�offers�the�opportunity�for�the�business�flying�specialist�to
travel�to�his�work�destinations�with�his�aircraft,�while�knowing�that�his�family

The�Town�of�Vulcan�Recreation�Department�can’t�imagine�a�better�way�to�get
to�know�a�community�than�by�participating�in�recreational�activities.�
In�Vulcan,�there�are�so�many�things�going�on�that�it�just�might�be�impossible�to
take�them�all�in.��Starting�with�everyone’s�favourite�summer�place�to�cool�off,
our�outdoor�6-lane�swimming�pool�offers�swimming�lessons,�fun�days,�plenty
of�public�swimming,�and�a�spray�park.��New�this�year�is�our�aquatic�climbing
wall.�While�you�are�there,�you�can�play�a�game�of�beach�volleyball,�or�get�your
skateboard�rolling�at�our�skateboard�park.��You�might�also�find�yourself�playing
a�round�or�two�on�our�challenging�18-hole�golf�course.�
Our�summer�isn’t�complete�without�our�Spock�Days�celebration�and�the�Tinman
Triathlon�in�June,�Show�and�Shine�with�their�demolition�derby�in�July,�and�the
Sid�Hartung�Memorial�Rodeo�in�August.�The�Vulcan�Arena�opens�in�early�fall
and�goes�until�spring.��It’s�jam-packed�with�activities�for�young�and�old�alike.��
Whether�you�prefer�skating�on�your�own�or�being�part�of�a�group,�we�have�what
you�are�looking�for.�If�skating�isn’t�your�thing�you�can�get�swept�away�with
Vulcan’s�Curling�Club�or�enjoy�the�concert�series�that�bring�entertainment�to
your�door�step.��
Spring�has�everyone�itching�to�get�out�and�enjoy�the�warmer�weather,�and
getting�involved�in�soccer,�minor�baseball�or�adult�slo-pitch�is�the�way�to�do�just
that.��The�5km�paved�path�is�a�great�way�to�step�outside�all�year�round,�and
get�moving.�So�come�on,�let’s�get�active�in�Vulcan�together!�
