Getting Started

• The first step is to open the Smart Software on your computer.

• The next step is to turn on your projector and smart board.

• On the opening screen there is an option that says “Orient”. Click on it. Then follow the directions on the screen. This needs to be done in order to make sure the touch sensitivity is aligned.

Customize your Tool Bar

1. At the right hand end of the tool bar on the top, left click on the tool bar after the icons.

2. The menu will come up for you to choose which tools you would like to have on your tool bar.

3. Double click on the icon that you would like to add.

4. On the main screen look at the tool bar, you can move them around by holding and dragging the tool across the tool bar.

The tabs on the left hand side have different things for you to do. Select the Gallery tab, with the framed picture on it.

Now, you can search in the gallery for anything that you would like. There are pictures available, as well as interactive media.

• I decided to search for dice. I can use these interactive dice to help practice simple addition problems.

• The children enjoy coming up to the smart board to “roll” the dice.

• Some dice will say the number.

• The dice are available in different colors.

• One dice sets multiple dice up, to roll at one time.

Search for Lessons

• There are so many great Smart lessons already created. The easiest way to learn about Smart software, and different ways to use it is through other Smart lessons.

• On the gallery tab, click on Smart Exchange. It will open a link to go the website.

• Once on the website you can search for different lessons by grade level, subject, and even topic.

• In order to download for use in your classroom, you will need to create a free user account.

This is a picture of what popped up just when I did a search for 1st grade.

These are the most popular lessons that people have downloaded.

When you see one you want to look at, click on it, and then preview it.

Then you can download it!

Downloaded Lesson Here is an example of a

lesson that I found to download to use with my first grade class.

It is a Vowel sort, where the students will move the pictures under the correct vowel.

Lessons like this are great, because it keeps the students engaged.

Our generation of students live with so much technology, that we need to use technology to teach and review to keep them interested and actively learning.

Pop the Balloon!

• Search for balloon in the interactive media folder with in the gallery search.

• Double-click on the balloon, or drag it onto the blank smart document.

• Then click on it and edit the text.

• In order to have something appear behind it, follow these steps:

1. Create the object by typing it on the screen.

2. Select the object.3. Click on the menu arrow on the

upper right hand corner.4. Go down to Order, then click on

send to back.5. Move the object under the balloon,

and watch it pop to reveal the answer.

Other uses for Smart Board

• Scan in a worksheet to do as a class, or check together.

• Create a Smart document to use for lunch count, or attendance.

• Do Calendar time on the Smart Board.• Write on the Smart board instead of using

chart paper. You can always save it and come back to it later.

• Any activity that you would have used a chalkboard, or chart paper for in the past, can be done using the Smart board.

• Whether you create or borrow a lesson, or just play around with it, you will see how beneficial Smart Software is for the education of our students.
