How did I attract/address my
audience?I already made a Prezi on how I
represented different social groups, but for
this part of my evaluation I’m going to look
at how I attracted them, which in some
aspects, is similar to how I represented
them.
Audience ResponsesDid they like it?
An overwhelming number of respondents liked the
magazine. (15/20) This is a great turnout, but shows
that it is not perfect.
“I think its great, it really looks authentic!”
“Looks good, like the way its set out”
I got a taste of what the audience thought about my
magazine through their short explanation of why they
liked it.
Quotes“it has a really affordable price.”
“Its laid out really well, but I feel that the contents is underdeveloped.”
“Good quality pictures, they’d make me buy the magazine.”
“I liked the colour scheme. It complimented the other features.”
“They [the fonts] looked original and something I hadn’t seen before. Suited the genre.”
“I have friends that I would definitely recommend this to, it looks like the type of music they’re into
“Doesn’t seem like its for older people, just suits our age group”
What did my questionnaires tell me?
The responses from both the closed and open
seemed to align, despite being done by separate sets
of people. This suggests there is a general
consensus, which I can figure out and begin to
understand how I attracted them.
It was encouraging to see that the audience generally liked my magazine and said they would buy (16/20). The fact that more people would buy it then like it, suggests my affordable price was the right idea.!
Attracting the audienceSetting out to attract the audience, I wanted to
create something familiar, but original. My choice of
layout, colours, fonts and pictures worked towards
this. The blue was light and suited the Indie Genre, the
pictures were of a high quality and looked
professional, the fonts also worked with the genre and
the layout was inspired by other magazines of similar
genres. My original open questionnaire showed that
these were the aspects my audience were interested
in and my new questionnaire shows that I have met
these needs.
ImprovementsThe typical response for improvements seemed to be
the layout of the contents and the fonts. The view
didn’t appear to be negative, but rather that
improvements could be made on that section.
I’m not going to make these changes, because its
best to be able to look back and identify them, using
them as a milestone, much like my evaluation of the
Preliminary.
Good PointsThe audience seemed to agree that it was perfectly suited to their age group. I achieved this through choosing models of their age group and tailoring it around younger, (18 – 25), artists that could act as a source of inspiration for my audience.
I’m happy that the audience approved of the genre. 18 out of 20 agreed that it was an Indie Rock magazine, with 17 of them saying they would recommend it to a friend.
18/20 people thought the colours were the MOST effective aspect of my magazine. I put a lot of effort in to selecting colours, so it’s good to see it is appreciated.
8/20, the most but not majority, though that the fonts were the weakest link in the magazine. They said that they were “underdeveloped” and I can see why they would say that. The fonts, although I took time and care to select most of them, one font was taken from Photoshop's default and didn’t feel Indie.
ConclusionMy own decisions and audience’s response work together to
show how I addressed and attracted the audience.
I want to point out that other, more subtle aspects that I worked
in that were present in my other part of the evaluation:
• Male models to appear more masculine and attract a male
audience.
• A Female in the contents to attract the smaller female
demographic.
• Titled tags and titles to appear edgy and more Indie
• A free digital album to appeal to the audience (43%+ of my
audience use the computer to listen to music so I feel this is the right choice
